    Our 8 years old Shire mare is incredibly amazing. We got her when she was a 4 months old filly. She's now 18.3 h tall and she weighs 2200 pounds.

      At what age did she stop growing taller? There's one living with my own shire that is 4yo and we're all guessing how big she`ll get

      Yep, you are right. Ive got one, and plenty of others to play with. They are a joy to work with. Although they are clever, and that gets you in trouble sometimes.

      Shires attract from their looks, but owners, me included, stay with the breed for their brains. They are amazing learners and a lot more spirited than other drafts.

      @@SocialShiresCan you elaborate on how they’re different from other drafts?

    • @SocialShires
      @SocialShires 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@guy8646 Mostly anecdotal but they are very lively and playful vs a belgian or a clyde. I've seen them throw their weight around a lot more than other drafts ive been around.
      Being the heaviest, it should be the opposite.
      Their learning abilities leave me speechless. Often I find mine catching a trick on the first try. Ive caught them learning to work new latches by watching me ONCE. (Ive had to add more safeties)
      On the downside, I've noticed they don`t trust people or other horses quickly. They don`t blindly give trust. Great for their owners, though, as the bond will be greater.
      Mine has protected me like a guard dog on many occasions, for instance.
      They are worth their asking prices.

    Absolutely beautiful
    So graceful and light on their feet.
    I'm so envious of anyone who works with or owns one.

      In my experience they’re a little more forward than draft horses like Belgians who were originally meant to plow so they’re great if you want to lope on trail or something like that

  • @brianthesnail3815
    @brianthesnail3815 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    They always have beautiful action and really graceful despite their size. The centuries of breeding led to a horse that was sound and efficient for work and that is where their action came from.

      II have lost interest in all small horses after getting to know a herd of shire. They are way more forgiving and can be trusted. I never thought horse could be as intelligent. They dont spook, they think. Ever negociated with a horse? or have a horse come up to you and help you out when it saw you couldnt reach something? That breed has the best mind of all. Just get a mounting block if you can't jump high as even mares often reach over 18hh, 6ft at the shoulder. Im 5`6" , I do a running jump to get on.

    • @SocialShires
      @SocialShires ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Go shire, they are more endangered and can benefit from more owners and enthusiast. I wanted a clyde until I found shires. One of them was harsh on humans and owners but quickly became attached to me. Took me years but they sold it to me.

    This video is full of inaccuracies and a good half of the horses shown are not even shire horses.

      @leamondtaylor825 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How do you know this?!? Do you have any kind of proof!? I'm not saying what you are saying is wrong, but can you prove this?!

    • @SickIntentions
      @SickIntentions ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@leamondtaylor825 Breed origin: The Shire is a breed of draught horse that originated in England in the 17th century. During the 16th century, Dutch engineers brought Friesian horses with them when they came to England, and these horses probably had the most significant influence on what became known as the Shire breed. The video is mentioning 1328 as the time when horses were stricly selected and bred for a bigger horse. this is clearly both untrue and wildly unrealistic as in those times that kind of planned cooperation and breed standards did not exists and would not for hundreds of years. and that is only a single inaccuracy.

      Only differences are the texture of the mane and tail and markings.
