I think the reason Charter Oak doesn’t get the love it once got is because mostly everyone is trying to flock to the CBE model. I’ve said it a thousand times, but it’s hard to go back to school while working and having a family. That’s where a lot of adult learners find themselves, so it would stand to reason why CBE programs like WGU and UMPI would stand above the fray.
Well said, Nick!
@@CollegeHacked Can you do a review on Rasmussen University
I'd be interested in cbe. This year I needed to get some extra lit courses so I went to Open University. It was good, and affordable but it's a full year and has a massive workload. I'm waiting for final grades but I expect a B. The perfectionist in me wanted an A, but I'm older and have a job and family. It's okay to admit you don't have the bandwidth to devote to school. CBE might let me eventually get some more courses completed.
We appreciate the review but more importantly we appreciate your contribution toward our collective goal of helping adults achieve valuable credentials in the most affordable way possible. Thank you for the attention College Hacked!
Thank YOU, Charter Oak, for making our goals possible. We're all in this together. :)
Charter Oak seems to be a really good school for hacking. While it may not seem this way; the offering of majors is pretty diverse as well.
Thank you for your excellent explanation
The limted ability to do upper level credit via 3rd party and limited Sophia makes it harder for many, but they are so CLEP and DSST friendly, which really makes up for it. Good to learn that they accept TECEPs, which is a great way to earn some of those upper level credit. Solid review as always.
I graduated in 2016. They took 101 credits from the early 1980s. At the time I went I went on the go back to get ahead program take one course and get one free. It was for CT residents only and I don’t know if it is still available. My only complaint was that they did take my English Lit and American Lit class but did not count them towards the English Comp requirement even though the classes required 20 pages of writing. I would recommend to anyone looking to finish their degree.
Thank you so much for your informative videos! I truly appreciate this. You really are a life saver for adults who are looking back to go back to school but work and have kids. Do you know if the exams are proctored at SNHU, LUO or Charter Oaks? From your videos I found those 3 best suited for me. My strong point is writing papers or doing quizzes more than taking proctored tests which give me testing anxiety with someone watching and the kids are very loud. I always have my kids running around in the back so I figured WGU and Excelsior University would not be a good fit due to hearing about their strict proctoring.
They are not proctored at those three! 😄 LUO is usually more hackable than SNHU, but it depends on the major. You’re wise for factoring in your environment, it would be a huge drag trying to create the calm environment they’d want at WGU, great as they are.
Hey man, Thanks for the great video. Could you review American Military University. I’m in the army currently looking for options and AMU say that they take a lot of transfer credit and I was hoping you do a review of it.
On the list! :)
Every school has their strengths in areas they excel at.
Finally, I was waiting for a video on Charter Oak State College. What do you think of their BSW program?
Good major! :)
You should make a video on Excelsior. It's very comparable to Charter Oak
We like Excelsior less because we’ve heard reports that it’s tough to get the upper levels needed to actually graduate. Getting stuck at the end of a degree is a major bummer.
Can you do Colorado state university global? CSUG. I can’t find much about them..
You should do a review on Purdue Global next.
It’s on the list! 😄
Very informative and great video thank you for the detailed information! I would choose Charter Oaks as an online school but they don't offer a bachelor's degree in MIS. Can you recommend an online regionally accredited school that doesn't have proctored exams/quizzes and offers a Bachelor's degree in MIS?
UMPI offers Liberal Studies Management Information Systems, if that happens to be enough for your use case :)
Thank you so much for your reply. Now, my only question with that is, would employers look at a bachelor's in Liberal Studies Management Information Systems the same as an MIS degree?@@CollegeHacked
@@Ricky24315 Whether you need the full degree is typically dependent on your experience in the field. If you're someone who has years of experience already and is just looking to put a piece of paper behind what you can already do, then the liberal studies is an excellent option. If you're trying to learn a new field with the degree, then you'll typically want the full MIS major. :)
Thank you so much for your detailed response! I really appreciate it. It looks like I will have to get the full degree then since I have no field experience in the IT world. @@coachlauren
Are there any weird rules about combining 4 year degree credits, and non-traditional/ 2 year degree credits? If I went to straighter-line or Sophia, or something similar, I would want to know I am not wasting my time. I have 15 credits hrs. from a 4yr school, so in theory if I can get 90 elsewhere, all I'll have to finish is 2 courses.
A regionally accredited bachelors degree (the only kind worth earning) will generally only let you transfer in 90 credits out of 120, and will required the other 30 hours be taken through their institution! But you can earn 90 Sophia/Straighterline courses and transfer them into certain schools, yes :)
Is it possible to do a review on pennstate world wide?
What about penn foster ? I never see you talk about penn foster .
Too much legal drama. There are much better schools out there :)
Hi college hacked. Not related to charter oak but can I still hack using 3 party courses if I already gave some admissions info but haven’t completed it?
More information needed. :) What school, what major, what have you already completed, and do you mean you started to apply to a school but stopped?
Idk why but when I post the info it doesn’t actually post the comment
It’s LUO and I want a BS in business admin in finance. I’ve done some 9 hours of community college and about 50 or so hours of Sophia. I wanted to do 8 study courses and some of the experience plus credits to make up the 90 hours I want to transfer.
@@manny_fit If it's LUO then you're good! You can still hack at any phase with them (before, during, after admission and matriculation).
Wow that’s amazing!! Thank you so much for this information!!!
Do they have competency based education?
No. It’s cohort based. But I wish.
Does excelsior university have proctored exams or is this online college Proctor free
Yes, proctored
Hi Clifford, if you'd please help me out with making this decision I'd be more than thankful. I've been looking around for some time for an online flat rate tuition self-paced program university.. I literally fell in love with WGU only to get my dreams broken because they don't accept international students, and then UMPI, but they don't have what I'm interested in.. I'm looking for a bachelor in cybersecurity/computer science.. Do you have any recommendations, please?
Purdue Global has an excellent ExcelTrack option for cybersecurity 😊
@@CollegeHacked Yeah, but they require 3 years of previous work experience in the field in order to enroll.. I have industry-related certificates, but not 3 years of work experience
@@inbrandtiveHave you contacted them? They don’t tend to be super strict about that in my experience :) If you have some projects or LeetCode experience, it’s worth a shot using that as experience :)
@@CollegeHacked What about doing a fast and cheap UMPI degree that's not related with what I want to do, but necessary in order to enroll for a Master in Cybersecurity/IT ?
As far as I know, you can earn a master's degree in a field that differs from your undergraduate degree
Does Charter Oak offer a Master Degree program?
Hopefully its okay for me to jump in and appreciate the question. We offer three online Master's degrees - Health Care Administration, Health Informatics, Organizational Leadership.
@@CharterOakEdu thanks! Are there counseling degrees in the works?
@@Alex-gx5mb Under consideration but not being formally pursued yet.

How many people are coming in with 114 credits? I’m going to bet that someone that already has 114 credits under their belt is far more likely to go ahead and graduate than someone with 15-30 credits. Also, what is the age of the student and what is the percentage that are either military or formally military, which is to say people who are having college cost reimbursed by the government?
Great questions!
Does this school have proctored exams and /or assignments?
Indeed!
Any reviews on Quantic school of business? $950 per month
Haven’t heard of that one, will have to look into it!
A little update: Charter Oak now offers an online bachelor in Software Development
Nice! Thanks :)
Charter oak prepare for a college hack ddos attack
🤣
Is there online proctoring like wgu?
No :)
Poor Maxine is still sitting there waiting to answer your questions.
Haha! Took me forever to figure out what you were referring to, but I remembered. Haha, They say she still waits there to this day...
Charter Oak misrepresents itself when it comes to "Portfolio learning" It's a 3-credit class you take, and you write about your previous life experience learning.
I recently spoke with an academic advisor, and that is what he told me. Basically, the entire 114 credits to transfer in is a theoretical possibility, but they have counter measures to make sure it doesn't.
That last sentence seems a bit harsh, I doubt they are actively preventing it. More likely it’s just an arduous process most people rightfully don’t want to go through. Portfolio submissions are definitely hit or miss, but that’s a big reason to just do a competency based program instead. No portfolio submission needed, if you know the info you just pass the class quickly and move on :)
Last sentence is inaccurate. I transferred with quite a lot of credits, and on top of that, was given employment based credit as well.
No, it's quite accurately based off the information I received from speaking with an advisor. Please, go into detail on the process and how many credits that actually yielded you.@@TechnicallyJustin
