    I live in Erie Pennsylvania… fluid film my Tundra every year! In fact I just had it sprayed yesterday. Your Ford may have aluminum body panels but the truck frame is steel… definitely worth it in this climate.

      Thanks for watching! You're right about our area - with the price of vehicles (and rust repair) it's great preventative protection to coat them every year.

    I grew up in the rust belt Chicago suburbs I believe in under coating. I lived in the Seattle area for 18 years. I undercoated my 02 ram no bad rust problems had it 19 years. I seen newer trucks like mine with bad rust. I think you are doing the right thing.

    I would oil undercoat the whole truck. I have seen vehicles in Michigan that used aluminum panels back to the late 90's early 2000s and vehicles that have aluminum hoods and tailgates the aluminum will rot through. Its to easy to undercoat than to find out otherwise. New truck is only running 60k+ lol.

      We did the entire truck this year. Oiled every bit of it. You're right - it's worth it to try to keep this truck lasting forever. If you follow Mike Morgan - he thinks truck prices will double again in 5 years. And I'm starting to think he's probably absolutely correct. Here's his video on the topic from a few days ago. th-cam.com/video/lTzRi1lR98g/w-d-xo.html

    I live in Erie County PA. Snow belt. Roads are covered in salt for months. I'm a firm believer in undercoating. Used oil for years and then found fluid film. I haven't sprayed FF over oil. My last Tundra and then 3 subsequent F350's have all been fluid film only. They all looked great for years. I hate rust. I purchased my own spray gun and take care of my own vehicles with FF applications. First one is a big one...I get in the panels, pull plugs, and get inside the frame and anything I can in addition to normal surfaces. Then, I annually do touch up. I also use FF on my 7' snowplow and on my implements for my tractor...pins and wear areas during storage.
    In addition, I have used in on all my wife's vehicles (RAV4s and Highlander)....and they all...rust free after several years in NWPA winters.
    Some people think you need a thick coating of FF....and that isn't the goal. It creates a film that provides the protection. I do tend to cut 10% with hydraulic oil if I want to get it to seep more into different areas.

    GREAT VIDEO! I have always undercoated my vehicles but I have not owned a aluminum truck, have one on order. Question for you Sir, how tall and wide is the garage door that your truck goes through? Many thanks please stay healthy and safe out there!

    South Main Auto does his own and many of his customers steel vehicles. I have not heard him talk about aluminum.

      Thanks for sharing! I've thought about doing it myself too - but it costs about $65-90 per vehicle depending on the vehicle size. At that price, I can't justify buying the tools to do it properly. It would certainly save money over time - but I also am friends with the guy who does the undercoating. So I like to support his small business.

    My 2018 gets Fluid Film on latches and inside the frame. Wool Wax gets sprayed on axles, springs, knuckles, shafts, and frame mounted brackets. The panels are left alone. If I see rust...it gets sprayed.

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      How does the Wool Wax compare to Fluid Film?

    • @knobbiesshreaded3137
      @knobbiesshreaded3137 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Wool Wax is a bit thicker, so it clings better in "high road spray" areas. Fluid Film "creeps" better because it is thinner, for use inside doors and rocker panels. WW is available in black for appearances sake. I've never noticed either WW or FF drip after application is done.@@PurpleCollarLife

    Krown rust proofing in Zelienople it works great, had my 2016 ram longhorn up there bought in 19 used. It was in good shape southern truck. It still looks new under the truck when you wipe it off. I live in Somerset county pa and they love the salt. Its about 150 every year and the owner is a great guy. It will pay for itself just in break lines. I am doing it to my wife's 2020 subie accent since new. If you want to keep them a long time its worth it. they drill into it in places but the put in a plug and grease it where the rubber plug goes.

    So if you're considering this, the transmission must have turned out ok.
    Or did i miss that video?
    I'd stick with just coating the chassis and suspension if it were my truck.

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm planning on doing the chassis, frame, and suspension. But I have to wait to get an appointment because I waited until so close to winter.
      As far as the transmission - it isn't fixed. I'll be talking about it in an upcoming video.

    I'm not a Ford guy but that's a nice truck. Guy I know that rust proofs vehicles says it's a good idea to spray them. He uses fluid film

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I haven't had the best luck with Fluid Film staying on the vehicle very long compared to other oil undercoating options. But I think perhaps if you start with Fluid Film and re-coat it more regularly (maybe twice per year), it does better.

    I honestly wouldn't bother.
    The only thing that rusts is replaceable components that will last until they need to be replaced anyways.
    I have an aluminum body 2015 f150 and the underside is still great after all these years in Ontario Canada.
    The only noticeable spot that does have some rust starting is the under lips of the bumpers as those are steel.
    I plan on upgrading to aluminum bumpers next year anyways so not a big issue.
    The only place I had a real issue with rust was the transmission cooler lines.
    There is a mount that mounts the cooler lines directly to the engine block and because of the temperature fluctuations, it rusts out at that mounting point.
    But once again, just replace it.

    I live in PA and never heard of anyone around here that does that. Who do you go to? As for the brine, it kills brake lines fast.

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  ปีที่แล้ว

      There are a number of privately-owned body shops and mechanics around here that do the oil undercoating or Fluid Film coating. There used to be a company that did a thick rubberized undercoating and guaranteed the body for LIFE! That company became really popular in the 80s and 90s. The stuff seemed to really work good. But they're no longer around I don't think.
      If you google "oil undercoating near me" - it usually tells you a few options.

      Dude!…. I used to own a Toyota Tacoma and I never undercoated it…. 13 years later the frame was completely rotted out… Pennsylvania winters literally “ate” my truck away to nothing. Fortunately for me at the time Toyota had a recall and replaced it for free. Now I have a Tundra, I’m not letting that happen again. Fluid film is a must. 🥰👍

    • @PurpleCollarLife

      @@Swindy1794 Those Toyotas can last forever - if you can keep them from rusting.

    Talk about being out of the loop.....i wasnt even aware modern trucks were made with aluminum panels. Ive always assumed it was steel. And i thought i knew a lot about cars and trucks. To be honest, im not sure. I would say that it depends on how YOU feel about it. I would guess it doesn't hurt to have an extra layer of protection. 🤔

    I would just continue to have the undercoating done on the Steel frame and power train I think it’s a waste of money doing the aluminum body the truck will probably be in the scrap pile from mechanical failure or traded in long before that body ever corrodes enough for you to care
