Great video! Real life saver! The one thing I would do differently next time is: reinstall the pin after c clip removal, until reassembly, to avoid having the spider gears come out. They were definitely a real challenge to reinstall. Thanks much for your help,
Concise, to the point, and had all the info I needed. Didnt need to constantly skip through the video. Great work!
I did mine a couple weeks ago it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Great video!
Thabks for the video. I just did mine today and you helped me greatly. I had no idea how and your video showed me. Even my spider gears fell out also. Lol
Glad to hear it helped. That's why I do these and sometimes I wonder if it is worth it.
Thanks so much. I'm popping out my axles to do the rear parking brakes. I am not talented enough to do it without pulling the axles!
There is no reason to pull the axles to replace the parking brakes.
I understand alot of folks can do it without pulling the axles but my numb fingers aren't up for it. I just got this truck and I want to change the fluid and inspect anyway.
Nice to see a well done complete video on this, thank you
Thank you for making this video sir. Good job helping out a friendly neighbor! 👍🏽
Just noticed mine is bad. Thinking I'll order the axle with it too.
Thank you! I’m pretty confident now. Best diy!
Hi been watching this video over and over. You make it look pretty easy, so I purchased axle shaft bearing and seal. I have 2016 dodge ram 1500 and I am sure my right rear(passenger side) So my brother and I tore into this job. Everything was going pretty good until it was time for the C clip to fall out. It didn't. It i loose. Spins round and round when we coax it with a screw driver. But it doesn't come off. Called a mechanic family member out of state and said we should put the two spider gears back in place which feel out in all of this, not sure how easy or hard that will be and once we have that try moving shaft in or out???? shaft doesn't seem to budge very much at all. Not in or out. It spins or turns, but not in or out. He said that my right spider gear is not seated, I think I understand what he means but how can you reseat that?? What a job.... Trying to save a few bucks,, Im sure it's worth it all for the lesson alone. I am so sketic of service centers, you can't imagine. That is my main reason for doing this myself.... You think you can help in anyway???? I appreciate your time and your video. Thank YOUl Kathy K
Once the center pin is removed you may have to hit the axle with a hammer to push it in deeper before the c clip will fall out.
@@737mechanic That did the trick! Wonderful advice. My brother wacked it rwo times and as I watched it came flying out of there. We didn't have any more problems, everything was easy because of your video. My truck is now quiet as can be feels like a brand new truck. Thank YOU so Much, You are Appreciated.
@@kathykramer2418 I am glad to hear it. You made my day.
@@737mechanic You made my everything! My Ram truck is perfect again. Your video is Great!
Theres a drain bold on the side of the diffrential
Yes, but why remove it if you are going to remove the cover anyway.
@@737mechanic true enough
What can I do to remove the c clip if I can’t push the axle shaft far enough to pop it out? Dealing with a tricky one here, would truly appreciate any advice!!!
I was doing my driver side where you see that not out on mine. It’s on the bottom and my pan won’t come out from the shaft. The clip could be upside down.
A little late to the party here, but I'm going to have to replace my driver side I fear. What are the odds I can bring my axle to your garage and use that neat little press of yours? If I don't have a press how do you recommend I get that tone gear on there? I thought about throwing it in the oven for a while to heat it up but I'm not looking forward to handling a very hot piece of metal and sliding in on that axle. Any suggestions?
You could try the oven but I doubt it will get hot enough to expand enough.
If you are in the Dallas area I can press it on for you.
@@737mechanic I'm in Corpus. Kind of a drive, but I really appreciate the offer.
Thank You for sharing 👍
What are the 4 bolts behind the hub called i need to pull my axels to tighten them but dont know what they are called or how to look into why they are loose
Hub flange bolts.
Great video , thank you for this!
Doing this now. Rear Rotors stuck on. Don’t want to hammer too much and ruin bearing. Any tips?
Spray them down with WD-40 and beat them off. I understand about the bearing but if you are unsure about it after beating it off you can replace it.
Well done!
Why not cut the old bearing off? Would that be too risky in terms of damaging the axle?
If the axle has to be pulled out with a slide hammer the axle is already damaged. The bearing on this axle is not a press on type.
@@737mechanicgotcha. What brand axle shaft did you get? I see rockauto has a dorman pretty well priced. Was gonna get a Mopar bearing and seal
@@BigHRepair This is the one I used.

@@737mechanic oh that's a whole kit. Didn't realize they sold them like that. Thanks I appreciate it
@@BigHRepair That is for the R/H side so if you need the drivers side make sure you order the other one.
Why didn’t you not remove the drain plug from lower right side of the diff to drain? Much easier and less mess!
He has to take the cover off ,why bother with the drain plug ?
I've never seen a drain plug on the differential plate on a Dodge.
@@spacecoastkid5033my 2014 zf 9.25 has a drain plug on the lower part of the differential case
@@spacecoastkid5033their is one on all 4x4 and 2wheel.. bottom right
Why not pack bearings with grease?
You can I guess but that is what the gear oil is for. They get lubed buy the gear lube in the first few feet of movement.
What bearing and seal setter do you recommend? I have to do my drivers side axle. Thanks
Whats the torque spec on the pinion lock bolt?
19 ft/lbs and it says to use a new bolt with lock tight.
Where was the video of that “C clip” that “feel right out”. I never saw anything but gears.
Wow, I guess I didn't get that part in there. It actually showed the c clip fall out once I pushed the axle in far enough. I am going to have to look and see if I still have the footage and figure out what I did.
thanks for the detailed video, so helpful
The axle you purchased was it the exact same length of the axle you took out? I purchased a kit from oreilys and it’s 3/16th inch longer
3/16 is fine as long the bearing rides on the machined surface.
The one thing I wish people who made these videos would do, is list how many miles the vehicle has so people like me have a rough idea if it's time for a replacement lol
A lot of time I do but sometimes I don't think about it. If I remember correctly this truck had about 125,000 on it.
Thanks dad! 🤗
Did you have to
Install a new axle due to frozen bearing on old axle?
Yes, in fact, this video th-cam.com/video/pqOXlgrCtP4/w-d-xo.html will be published tomorrow showing putting the tone ring and wheel studs on the new axle and then I cut the old bearing off the old axle to show the carnage the bad bearing caused.
I'm getting ready to replace the left rear axle shaft (tone ring issue) i noticed the shaft you pulled out had a tone ring on it. Did I miss something or is it 2x4 versus 4x4? Great video with excellent information.
The truck was a 2wd but the tone ring is for the ABS system so I am sure a 4wd will be the same type of thing.
I noticed you skipped the part where the axle was an issue, (understatement) where the axle didn't want to slide in enough to release the c clip, did you have an issue with this c clip ? How did you get the axle in enough to release it?
The c clip was fine and not an issue, I did have to use a hammer to get the axle to move in enough for the c clip to fall out. The biggest problem was getting the axle out.
@@737mechanic yes sir, same issue here but my axle bearing was gaulded to the axle and axle was like welded in place so couldn't get the axle to slide in enough to release the c clip. Was a monster of a job, but finally got it out and back on the right track for my buddy. I enjoyed your video also , thanks for the reply sir, please subscribe to my channel and we can keep up with another's tasks weekly hahahaha 😂

@@moodybluemotorsportsDwneKnos Did he have any symptoms to know it was bad?
@@moodybluemotorsportsDwneKnosdo you absolutely have to replace the shaft?
Thats some cowboy shit right there driving that bearing in with an airhammer lol
Great video! Thanks!
Do I have to replace the shaft if I replace the bearing?
Only if the shaft is damaged.
Great video.
God bless you for the great knowledge as always
Where’d you get the seal for the shaft at?
amzn.to/3nrss2k
This is what happened to mine I fixed it. The whole reason why it was damaged in the 1st place because the ADS censor and when I didn't replace it in time? I. Noticed that it Melted the sensor and that also caused my Axel to break Where the sea clamp is at After I replaced the Axel and new c clamp I changed the wheel bearing as well This was about six months ago today the wheel bearing Broke and grinded inside the rotor causing damage to the a b s censor my question is what causes the wheelberry to do that or break itself ? Because I noticed the liquid oil behind the tire and inside the wheel so I. I knew the problem re occurred just didn't know why.
As long as the bearing was new and the axle was new and the diff fluid was at the proper level everything should have been good.
@@737mechanic I replace the ABS sensor but it continues to come on so. My thing is how do I know if it's something other than just the? AB. S? Sensor because this is the 3rd time I replace it on the same side. The traction control light comes on. The truck delays and lags when I accelerate all the lights. Turn on for a quick 2nd and then they come off. But one thing's for sure my brakes lock up on that side rear right? Or at least they're engaging a small amount of pressure for it to heat up the rotor And call smoke to come out from that side of the wheel. It's hard to find a mechanic that can help. I'm insuring that it is something else other than just that part that I had replabecause. It's a continuing event for the last 3 Months I appreciate your help
@@ManuelHernandez-ko8sc you may have a wiring issue. what codes does it set?
So you installed a new axle.
Tes, The axle was ruined entirely. So it got a new axle, bearing, and seal.
No grease for new bearing ?
The new bearing is lubricated from the gear oil in the differential.
@@737mechanic thank you, great video
@737mechanic yea some people like to add grease on new bearings so bearings can be safe before gear lube takes control.
dont you think you should have put some grease or at least gear oil on the bearing before installing axle
You can but gear lube will make it to the bearing in the first few feet of travel.
👍
That's terrible. How did it get that bad and still drive! 🤣
I am surprised they didn't hear it long before they saw it smoking.
