Oldboy, what a violent masterpiece. Artbooks are one of my favorites in collector's editions but man these big boxes start to really eat up space over the years. I rarely pick them up anymore.
Honestly, I'm glad someone finally said that. I like to collect stuff, but this collection box isn't that overwhelming. I do, however, love the steel poster and the artbook as an artist myself you can learn a lot about the thinking process behind the designs and the characters. Hope I'll get a chance to see it in real life. The movie on the desk is Oldboy.

Thank you for an honest review. I totally agree that the value is in the book and game, but for me I’d probably display the collectors set as a whole. It looks awesome! You know, I always wanted to watch Oldboy, never got the chance … I remember buying a dvd copy from Virgin Mega store in union square NYC when it still existed. I probably lost the dvd or my parents threw it out along with some films by Takashi Miike that I collected back in the early 2000s.
Honestly, from the beginning of the video I was fixated on Oldboy, Shinichi Gotō!! I had no idea there was a re-release that came out 2013. Thank you! Definitely going to make time to watch both.
Oldboy I used to collect a lot of the collector's editions and physical media games. I've run out of space, I find the buy games and don't play them just to have them in the collection especially for collector's editions. So I've gotten pretty particular on which ones I pick up nowadays. You have a few Zelda collection stations already and did not get a pre-order it on this one. Very cool to see you unbox it, I enjoyed your take on the stuff inside of it. I've gotten plenty of collector's editions that had items in it that just shouldn't be free and not behind the payroll like those pants

Great review Oldboy! I also would get that and only find value in the art book and game. Don’t need a giant fridge magnet, don’t need a steel book if I already have the regular game case, and adding those 4 pins would bring my pin collection up to…4.
Oldboy: My thoughts about this movie, the story draws you in, the actors’ performances are perfect, and the ending leaves you with questions. The action and cinematography in this movie is crazy.
The twist was really shocking for me thrilling, action-packed, mysterious, and suspenseful. This story captivated me, kept me at the edge of my seat and had me questioning every step of the way. It might not be for everyone but I highly recommend this movie. Park Chan-Wook is a great director who enjoys messing with your mind. I am huge fun of Zelda and I am from Madagascar moved to USA. It took me forever to save money to buy games. I saved money for 6 months to buy ocarina of time.

Oldboy, I kinda agree I thought it was lackluster , but now that I watched the video you made, made me realize they have to really address a lot of peoples preferences.

The thing for me is when people make statues for collectors editions of games I would never care to buy.

Oldboy. Hands down, the best one shot side scrolling fight scene of all time! No special effects or cgi, just raw talent. We need more scenes like this nowadays

Oldboy was a great movie. I always loved going off the beaten tracks of movies and not watching mainstream stuff all the time. dude I wanna tell you too that I appreciate your channel. it has helped me a lot in deciding how to play retro games easier and actually got me to buy my first NeoGeo MVS Cbox console! but I recently just got my first gaming computer and got launchbox and bigbox and it just does and plays anything I could ever want flawlessly.

I’ve heard of Oldboy, but have never seen it….will need to check it out. I still need to get Tears of the Kingdom and getting the Collectors Edition would be sweet!
In regards to the metal plate. Appears to be kind of a new trend. Instead of hanging a regular picture. You attach magnetitic strips to your wall with double sided tape and you can buy metal pictures and attach them to the magnetitic strips. What this allows is you to do is rotate the pictures on your wall without having to pull the frame down put a new picture in and rehang.

Old boy was the movie. Also I agree with you on book orientation and also the extra case (metal book). I decided to keep the games in the metalbooks and put the plastic case back in the collectors boxes.

i pre-ordered weeks ahead, went to gamestop to get my extra receipt to guarantee my preorder and they had a bunch of collectors edition to upgrade to for normal cost
I can completely understand your reason for not liking the collector's edition this time. I love pins and collect them, but I always end up putting them away or on my pin board unless I have a second set to wear on my jacket or backpack. I get scared of losing them. The metal print was really cool. I'd put it on my wall though. One of my favorite old boy quotes was “All I could think about in that moment was the guy in the next room was eating with only one chopstick.” idk I get stuck on weird details like that and I felt called out lol
Old boy was such a banger. I still watch it from time to time when I am on a action movie binge. I start with some Arnold Schwarzennegar classics, Rambo, John Wick, The Raid and then Old Boy to finish it off. Amazing video as always man!

Oldboy - I’ve never seen it but always been curious to watch. The notes on the violence have given me pause though. And I hear you regarding these collector’s editions. Rarely worth it. I do really like the ones I have from Blizzard. I like art books and the Blizzard ones have been great for those!

And I totally agree about the Collector's Edition, I really want it, just because of the artbook, I love when developers share details of the development process, but I think they could sell in a simple and cheaper version as well. Good luck all!
I remember the day when I went to see Oldboy at the cinema. It was an 11:30pm screening on a Friday night at a little Arthouse cinema on Lygon Street in Carlton in Melbourne Australia. I made the decision to go at about 11:15mp and as the cinema was about 20mins away, I thought I had buckley chance of getting there on time….but I went for it anyway. I drove as fast as the speed limit would allow, wishing every traffic light green….and amazingly I made it just as the movie was about to start. Whenever I think about Oldboy, I recall sitting in a virtually empty theatre, munching on popcorn (still catching my breath from having run all the way to the theatre from the car park) and watching the scene where he crawls out of suitcase and thinking “totally worth it!”
Now that I have my own space, it would be nice to start getting some collector's editions. Not always the best value but some look pretty cool for the most part. Also, I've never seen the original movie only the remake with Josh Brolin which was IMO a phenomenal film.
I watched Oldboy for the first time with my college roommates (a little inebriated lol) and it was insane! At the time I was studying music composition and film scoring, so a friend suggested I check out Oldboy for some inspiration. The famous hallway scene I’ll always carry with me - still in awe at the skill it took to pull that off. Definitely going to revisit this now as it’s been 10 yrs. Also, they’re doing a theatrical run in the US (hopefully abroad too) I think sometime soon for anyone interested!
Oldboy, I feel what you are saying but I do think that I would put a little more value on the metal plate tho. I dunno if I could bring myself to open one unless I did a video like this, valid points.
OLDBOY! I watched the original version just randomly on one of the streaming services and loved it. The story was so crazy and I enjoyed how different of a revenge story it was.

Just got done with a marathon rerun of oldboy and the raid movies. Great movies with wonderful coreography. On what you were saying for steelbooks, i probably differ from most. I don't get very many collectors but the ones with steelbooks I hope they have a regular case also. I put the general case on my shelf, and have a shadowbox on the wall with all my steelbooks on them to make a makeshft custom poster of sorts right next to my pin board with all my pins in the board (SMT IV being my favorites on there). I give the magnet some unique props, just because i haven't seen that before. I am curious if that will start replacing small posters.
Oldboy! That is so nice of you to be willing to give that away to your fans. I'm sure whoever gets it will be very excited and happy. You're a good man. And don't beat yourself up over not being thrilled about it because you are very much correct. Most collectors editions are just a hodge podge of random stuff people would never buy on their own but for some reason when it's in a "collectors edition" all of a sudden they are willing to dump the money for it out of the FOMO and then it ends up sitting and collecting dust (even if you put it on display it'll collect dust lol). And I bet the book being in widescreen orientation was the final straw for you. Keep being your honest self. I have a lot of respect for you and your content. ☮️

Oldboy! Such a great movie one of those crasy Korean movies came out for me in highschool a friend at school and i would alway watch movies from over seas, old B movies or indie movies.
I unfortunately missed my opportunity to preorder TOTK collecters edition hope they get more instock really want to play it and im one of those zelda fan collecters who want it to look at the art book love looking at game concept art but also to show off the cool content. Old Boy is part of the revenge trilogy movies. The other two being Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance. Another Korean movie that could go really well with it is a Korean noir movie called A Bittersweet Life starting the actor who played Storm Shadow in GI Joe movies. If you enjoy Korean movies, I would also recommend The Good, the bad, and the Weird which is a Korean western that is type of a homage movie to the Western movie The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly.

Man, i haven't seen Oldboy in years. The actor, Choi Min-sik, is a pretty good actor. I also liked his Korean Mafia acting in 'Lucy'. I really need to rewatch Oldboy because i forgot alot about it but thats good because it will be like its brand new to me.

Interesting video. That steelbook artwork is awesome. I don't know that movie, but it looks like keeanu and hideru kajaima had a baby in silent Hill. Instead of a rattle they gave him a hammer.

Your very accurate about collectors editions. I try display some things if it’s statues or something but lot of it is filler. I pre ordered and paid for GOW Ragnarök and honestly forgot. Then it showed up I was like I only wanted the game what was I doing lol. Still haven’t opened it. Movie is Oldboy. Never seen it but now I’m interested to see what it is.

Oldboy, never watched it but I’ve heard of it. I love limited edition stuff for the pins honestly. I display pins on my shelf but I can see why most people just store them. Man this Oldboy is with you on collectors editions. I loved them when I was buying Working designs games but these days i am not so sure.
Steel books I have never cared about. I bought extra things I wanted separately like the Amiibo figure. My BB pre-order came with the photo version of the metal one in the collector's for free. Has a nice mat with it too. I feel that was a better deal imo. Nothing in this set screams cool to me personally.
The movie is Oldboy. As for the contents of the collectors edition the game, steel book, and art book are the things I'm most interested in. The steel books tend to look so much better on a shelf than the regular plastic case. That metal plate artwork is pretty nice too.

I’m actually a big fan of pins. I put them all over my backpack and these would look great with it. I don’t have the money to afford the special edition at the moment (in college rn, not an oldboy rolling in cash). I did get the BotW special edition back in the day and I did my best to actually use the items included. It came with a big metal coin so I would take it around to use as a flipping coin or just to mess around with if i was bored.
Never seen Oldboy, but now i'm just intrigued because so many people in the comments seem to have heard of it haha. Thanks for showing off the Collector's Edition! Some interesting items in there, definitely thing the art book is the coolest thing in the package.
LOL. Second time today I have seen Old Boy referenced. Its one of James Gunn's top 5 comic book/manga/graphic novel adapted movies. He also had History of Violence on his list.

However, I totally agree with you on this collector's edition being kind of a let down for the price. The only thing thing that really interested me was the steelbook and maybe the artbook, but I usually like it when I get steelbooks for free just by pre ordering from Best Buy like you said. I could have seen me trying to pre-order it if it was closer to $90-$100 though.
I saw you opening that, but I just kept my eyes on the movie. I never figured you as a fan of Old Boy. For anyone who hasn't seen it, the ending is a flipping twist of twists - but the rest of the movie is pretty iconic, though the story is also crazy as a whole. Ever see a movie where the main character has one huge action shot fighting a giant group of people in a hall/tunnel? Most likely inspired from this movie.
Also, I'm pretty much done with buying games as they come out. Every single deluxe/collectors edition I've bought in the last 20 years has been a freaking joke. I've bought games where they tied everything in the collectors edition behind crappy PVP instead of the -actual- game, and that same game then actually removed everything for all the collectors editions I've bought so now I don't even have them anymore. I've bought editions for games that shut down soon after. And then I've bought one for 76 where it was like 70% off the DAY of release! Bought for games that eventually released the Deluxe edition goods to everyone for free. Two times I've bought the highest versions of a game DLC and the game then went free to play after swearing, even until the day of release, that they'd not be going F2P... and then they did, and we were given like $5 worth of 'currency' to make up for the $100+ we just spent.
The last big one I bought was Final Fantasy 7R, after the publisher stated "It will all be released on PS4". I figured that made sense since it had been in development for so long, okay.. I'll bite and wait a year or two - VERY FIRST DLC!! PS5 exclusive. I'm so tired of game companies screwing us, and I'll not buy another special edition for a game on release again. I'm over it. I won't be buying it for PS5, I won't buy disc three on PS6, I won't buy disc four for PS10 whenever it eventually comes out.
