@@cragworks I'd wager it's more like 30-40%. Much of the overworld music is new, along with other new songs for the sky and depths. The horse riding themes are the same, as well as all returning town themes, but Tarrey Town now has a night variation. The Hinox, Talus, and Molduga themes are unchanged, but all other combat themes are new. The majority of minigame themes are returning, as well as a few other miscellaneous songs like the regular dragon theme, although the Light Dragon theme is new. Otherwise, I believe every other song is brand new. That includes the dungeon themes, all cutscene and character themes, new boss themes, new location themes, and a handful of random other songs.
I own the BOTW OST, & I'd love for a TOTK ost release too. I mean they did a Skyward Sword OST release a few years ago & Zelda has been one of their most conistent for releasing Soundtracks for.
I hate the mini soundtrack trend a lot of publishers are doing personally. I'd rather them just give me the whole OST with my special edition rather than expecting me to give them more money later. Obviously they want the option that gives them more money overall, but I'm not gonna act like it isn't shitty of them to entice double dipping like that.

@@kuronekogamer2065 I’m the same way but the way that posters work for me is instead of trying to line them all up symmetrical, they’re all off center from eachother but each poster is the same distance from every other poster, about a half inch in any direction, and I’m filling up that whole section of wall as I do so, not just left to right. This makes it so the wall is able to be decorated in a lot of ways with a lot of things but still have it feel organized

I wish they did both, like sell the soundtrack CDs separately and actually advertise them in the West. Probably not worth it for Nintendo, but one can dream. For the Soundtrack releases themselves they seem to often do limited collectors editions as well when it comes to Nintendo. The full soundtrack for Kirby and the Forgotten Land which was recently announced is limited to a few thousand copies, but I guess you can always get a Sound Selection. Another shame is when Soundtrack CDs are included in a collector's edition they are often limited to like two dozen tracks. But I guess including the full, often multi-disc soundtrack to a game likely adds "too much" value, not to say OSTs take years to come out anyway if they ever do.

That's why Pokemon preorder bonuses, for example, went from cool stuff like a collectible coin and a unique stylus or figurine, to posters for some time, to Potions(200 of 'em), to pins that aren't even well designed and are just a PNG slapped on a piece of plastic that barely matches the shape.

I'm probably the only person on earth that enjoys steelbooks. Idk it just feel premium to me but a lot times they don't compete with the good old case and box art.
I feel like if they just were the full box art without the title/logos, they'd be a lot better. But most of the time they just end up being pretty bland with random iconography from the game.
Fellow Steelbook collector here. I love the look of the TOTK steelbook, but haven’t got one yet. I managed to snag the SBs for Luigi’s Mansion 3, Pokémon Diamond/Pearl, SMTV, and P5R.

I feel like the Tears of the Kingdom Collector's Edition is more premium but the Breath of the Wild Collector's Edition is more useful with that carrying case.
it just looks more premium; I bought it cause I wanted the artbook, and my reaction after opening the box was pretty much the same as Scott. Also the trailer showed it as a hard box, which the retail unit wasn't. It's more like the soft outer sleeve of a special edition console, except inside there's no other box, just the contents crammed in.

I still use my Sheikah slate case to this day. A bit of the blue detailing on the sheikah eye started separating, but a bit of super glue fixed it right up. On some level, I regret not keeping it mint, but when I moved to Oregon for undergrad, the TSA destroyed the original box by cutting the bottom out...
The quality of that Sheikah slate case is absolutely amazing. I’ve been using it to protect my Switch ever since its launch day and it’s still like new.

Just a fun fact, I used to buy collectors editions specifically for the sound CDs to maybe by some chance play in the car. Before I had my own car and license when BOTW first came out (I was like 14) I used to occasionally play this CD during car rides with my mother 💀 guardian theme went crazy on the road

The best video game steelbook is Metroid Prime Trilogy on the Wii because it has the same boxart as the standard case, a sleeve to make the spine match, and a really nice metallic sheen to the whole thing. My friend has a copy and it's honestly kinda dazzling.
Honestly, I'm a sucker for steel books. I just love how they feel and look. But I agree with you the Metroid Prime Trilogy is my favorite steel book it's soooo pretty and mine has the timeline thing for it as well in the inside.

I remember wanting the Smash Ultimate collector's edition for the pro controller mainly, but they sold out in my area before I could grab one. But looking at how the steelbook replaced the amazing box art you get for buying the game itself, I think I got off pretty easy. I don't care enough for collector's editions in general since they usually come with a bunch of doo-dads I'm never going to use. If I want a figure or accessory or whatever, I'm just better off buying one separately.
I got the European limited edition for Breath of the Wild, which only came with the standard game, a soundtrack CD and the sword statue. It was only ~$25 extra, which is pretty good considering that its size is decently large and the amount of detail that can be seen. I don't really get limited edition games either, but if they're not much more than what I'd pay for the standard game and the add-ons look appealing enough to use as decor, then I don't mind purchasing them.
The fact that there are multiple stores still selling new versions of ToTK collector's edition tells a lot about how bad the collector's edition was. Some stores are even putting it on sale and they still can't get rid of them.

I was more impressed with the GameStop pre-order incentives for Tears of the Kingdom- the wooden engraving and arm sleeve- than I was with the actual collector's edition. It's fine, but probably a little expensive for what you actually get.
I was lucky enough to get a pre-order for the BotW Master Edition. The night they announced the Master Edition, which if I remember correctly was the same night they did that whole big Switch reveal presentation, I had already rushed to get my Switch pre-order in at Best Buy. Then they announced the Master Edition and I decided I wasn't going to bed that night until pre-orders for that went up. They randomly went up at Best Buy and sold out instantly and I missed them. But then a short while later they went up on Gamestop and lasted just long enough for me to get one before they too were gone. Unfortunately, since Gamestop is Gamestop they didn't ship my Master Edition til release day so I didn't end up getting it til the following Monday. So that weekend of having a Switch but not having BotW yet was like torture. lol. But I love my Master Edition. I have the big beautiful box and the Master Sword statue displayed on my shelf and always will. It was well worth the $130 to me. By comparison the TotK collector's edition doesn't seem like quite as good of a deal but I still got it and still love it too. Plus it matches the BotW Master Edition quite well. On an interesting side note: I actually got laid off from my job just days after the Switch and BotW released. I was pretty bummed but at least it gave me the opportunity to completely immerse myself in BotW. After two months I'd 100% completed it. Even getting all 900 Korok seeds. And in a twist right out of a movie, almost right after I finished BotW my boss contacted me and gave me my same job back. So it's like I was destined to have a two month vacation just to play BotW. lol.
On the topic of artbooks, I remember the Xenoblade 2 and 3 special edition artbooks were kind of lame, since they're literally just finalized official art of the characters. If you want a *really* good artbook, the Bravely Second Special Edition just comes with the actual artbook that they released a few years later. All the text is untranslated, but it has all the concept art, pre-compression rendered art, and even stuff from the first game.
SCOTT! You didn't mention that the TotK game case says "not for resale" on it above the barcode which still differs from a standard retail copy! Thanks for a relatable unboxing. I also didn't grab that master sword statue for the same reasons and I feel the same about steel book cases haha
I think the TotK Collector's Edition was way better personally. I love steelbooks, I actively enjoy collecting pins (I even have a display case), and I think the TotK art book is the single best item across both sets. The steel poster is cool too, tho I have nowhere to really put it in my room Maybe I'm just biased cause TotK was the first brand new Zelda I was there for during the pre-release hype, but I absolutely love like every TotK Edition pre-release item released, and I have every single one too sans the case (I want the it but I already have three Switch cases). I didn't get the Collector's Edition til like a month later, but I was very excited to find a stray one at a random GameStop.
i wish more of the Bundled artbooks actually included non-final concept art also, the real use for the collectable CDs is that you pop it on your DVD drive once, rip all the music to your PC & then never touch it ever again

Me personally, I put over 200 hours into TOTK and that artbook looks super cool. I think the argument can be made that i and probably most people would get a lot of value out of looking through that artbook. it looks awesome. I want to pick it up just for that.
fun fact about the botw coin: a slightly smaller but overall identical version of it was used as a zipper tab thing on a botw switch case, its the one thats like a faux leather. (which is great btw, i love that case. rock solid.)
Next idea for Scott Stash: Differences between collectors edition in America and Europe. There are a lot of good games with totally different CE in both regions. BOTW, XC2 and DE, Astral Chain, Octopath Traveller and more!
Okay, I’m literally that guy. I’ve had the Skyward Sword 25th anniversary CD in my car for four years. It starts when the car turns on, and stays on till I decide I wanna bump it or hit Bluetooth. Also, pins are really neat 💁♀️ All that said you are very cool and polite. Have a nice day
Yeah a lot of modern gaming steelbooks don't even have the game title on the spine, really annoying. Back in the day some steelbooks like Final Fantasy 12 still maintained the console spine template. Also recently the Persona 5 Royal steelbook came with a slip cover that adds the ps4 banner and spine
As someone who regularly played the BotW soundtrack in my car, I can confirm that when you’re driving down the highway and you hear the guardian warning you freak out. Not sure if that means it’s not a good idea to play it in the car or not
2:55 earlier today I was checking out my old 2DS and noticed the carrying case I had for it was also first party. Its nothing too special, but it did the job pretty well for time it was in use. That case was probably higher quality than this Switch case.
I bought the TOTK collector’s edition and am very happy with it. One I got is cheap on eBay because no why I would buy it full price. Two I like the poster and the steel book they are nice to put on a wall. Three the art book is great and has Purah in it and that alone justifies my purchase. But clearly the BOTW one is better but then again I will never buy it so who cares.
I get what you mean about steelbooks they are so rarely of any use the only one with anything different about them is the pokemon ones where the steelbook has a slot for both versions of the game
I legitimately used the Sheikah Slate case from the BotW S.E. as my go-to Switch case for years and only stopped last year because I got a Satisfye grip and case (not sponsored). The Sheikah Slate case held up remarkably well and kept everything inside nice and safe.
Collector's Editions all depend on how much I like the game, so it's a little annoying that I don't know until after I buy the game. I liked Breath of the Wild more than I expected and Tears of the Kingdom less than I expected.
Usually I like two different collectors edition, if one comes with a statue and the other doesn't. Most if the time I don't want a statue so having the option not to get it while getting the other goodies is always nice.
Collector's editions are made to never be opened or used. They are meant to collect dust in a case until such time that the original owner wants to sell it for a big profit.
I was able to get TotK collectors from my local game store, and then I got the Japanese version collectors from Amazon and it shipped in a cool TotK box. It was cool to see that they shipped it with that. 😁
Or you could do what I did, reversed the magnet put the sticky part on the steel poster then use it as a giant fridge magnet I actually found that really nice
If a collectors edition only has items like an art book, a soundtrack, and some mini prints that have no exclusive art on them... I won't even give it a second glance even if it's for a favorite game. The best collectors edition I own, hands down, is Octopath Traveler. It has a POP-UP BOOK. Also, I did manage to get the BOTW collectors edition and to this day I still use the Sheikah slate case.
Scott, I still to this day have a Five Nights at Freddy's collector coin I got when I was 12 at Gamestop. I keep it on my desk and flip (spin) it when I need to make important decisions with two equally viable options. That's what you do with them. They're for decisionmaking.
Lot of good music in NOTW and TOTK that you can listen in the car, but no one ever talk about Sidon theme. Great piece of music that hasn't been used much in any game. But it did appear in BOTW, TOTK and Age of Calamity in a few different versions (lullaby for baby Sidon, marching one for fights in AOC).
I'm not sure if we had two versions for BotW in Europe, but the one I have came with the master sword statue but with no carrying case. I believe it was 100€.

CDs are usually the main reason I’ll buy a collectors edition. Having P3R’s soundtrack on CD has made it worthwhile entirely

The fact that there are multiple stores still selling new versions of ToTK collector's edition tells a lot about how bad the collector's edition was. Some stores are even putting it on sale and they still can't get rid of them.

@@zg-it Finland. They still have multiple of them at my local Prisma (Prisma normally doesn't even sell collector's edition of games). If you want to check Finnish online stores, Puolenkuunpelit, konsolinet and power all have them on stock.

I was more impressed with the GameStop pre-order incentives for Tears of the Kingdom- the wooden engraving and arm sleeve- than I was with the actual collector's edition. It's fine, but probably a little expensive for what you actually get.
my country only had a limited edition which came with the soundtrack in a jewel case and the master sword statute for 100€
I was lucky enough to get a pre-order for the BotW Master Edition. The night they announced the Master Edition, which if I remember correctly was the same night they did that whole big Switch reveal presentation, I had already rushed to get my Switch pre-order in at Best Buy. Then they announced the Master Edition and I decided I wasn't going to bed that night until pre-orders for that went up. They randomly went up at Best Buy and sold out instantly and I missed them. But then a short while later they went up on Gamestop and lasted just long enough for me to get one before they too were gone. Unfortunately, since Gamestop is Gamestop they didn't ship my Master Edition til release day so I didn't end up getting it til the following Monday. So that weekend of having a Switch but not having BotW yet was like torture. lol. But I love my Master Edition. I have the big beautiful box and the Master Sword statue displayed on my shelf and always will. It was well worth the $130 to me. By comparison the TotK collector's edition doesn't seem like quite as good of a deal but I still got it and still love it too. Plus it matches the BotW Master Edition quite well.
On an interesting side note: I actually got laid off from my job just days after the Switch and BotW released. I was pretty bummed but at least it gave me the opportunity to completely immerse myself in BotW. After two months I'd 100% completed it. Even getting all 900 Korok seeds. And in a twist right out of a movie, almost right after I finished BotW my boss contacted me and gave me my same job back. So it's like I was destined to have a two month vacation just to play BotW. lol.
On the topic of artbooks, I remember the Xenoblade 2 and 3 special edition artbooks were kind of lame, since they're literally just finalized official art of the characters. If you want a *really* good artbook, the Bravely Second Special Edition just comes with the actual artbook that they released a few years later. All the text is untranslated, but it has all the concept art, pre-compression rendered art, and even stuff from the first game.
SCOTT! You didn't mention that the TotK game case says "not for resale" on it above the barcode which still differs from a standard retail copy!

I think the TotK Collector's Edition was way better personally. I love steelbooks, I actively enjoy collecting pins (I even have a display case), and I think the TotK art book is the single best item across both sets. The steel poster is cool too, tho I have nowhere to really put it in my room
Maybe I'm just biased cause TotK was the first brand new Zelda I was there for during the pre-release hype, but I absolutely love like every TotK Edition pre-release item released, and I have every single one too sans the case (I want the it but I already have three Switch cases). I didn't get the Collector's Edition til like a month later, but I was very excited to find a stray one at a random GameStop.
Funny how the collectirs edition here includes the steel book AND case. Whereas metroid dreads only gives you the steelbook...
Since its the Sage vows, the TotK special edition pins should have been rings so you can wear them like Link does ingame

also, the real use for the collectable CDs is that you pop it on your DVD drive once, rip all the music to your PC & then never touch it ever again

Me personally, I put over 200 hours into TOTK and that artbook looks super cool. I think the argument can be made that i and probably most people would get a lot of value out of looking through that artbook. it looks awesome. I want to pick it up just for that.

The Switch case is still the coolest case I've even seen. Plus, the space it has is just so much more than other cases.
the preorder bonus for TotK was a wooden plank with the new hand icon and such on it, pretty good quality and better than just some pins or stickers.

fun fact about the botw coin: a slightly smaller but overall identical version of it was used as a zipper tab thing on a botw switch case, its the one thats like a faux leather. (which is great btw, i love that case. rock solid.)

Okay, I’m literally that guy. I’ve had the Skyward Sword 25th anniversary CD in my car for four years. It starts when the car turns on, and stays on till I decide I wanna bump it or hit Bluetooth. Also, pins are really neat 💁♀️

Yeah a lot of modern gaming steelbooks don't even have the game title on the spine, really annoying. Back in the day some steelbooks like Final Fantasy 12 still maintained the console spine template. Also recently the Persona 5 Royal steelbook came with a slip cover that adds the ps4 banner and spine

As someone who regularly played the BotW soundtrack in my car, I can confirm that when you’re driving down the highway and you hear the guardian warning you freak out. Not sure if that means it’s not a good idea to play it in the car or not
2:55 earlier today I was checking out my old 2DS and noticed the carrying case I had for it was also first party. Its nothing too special, but it did the job pretty well for time it was in use.
That case was probably higher quality than this Switch case.
I bought the TOTK collector’s edition and am very happy with it. One I got is cheap on eBay because no why I would buy it full price. Two I like the poster and the steel book they are nice to put on a wall. Three the art book is great and has Purah in it and that alone justifies my purchase. But clearly the BOTW one is better but then again I will never buy it so who cares.
No joke though, I listened to that soundtrack on repeat while driving for a good month after BotW released. That CD is still in my car's CD player.
I get what you mean about steelbooks they are so rarely of any use the only one with anything different about them is the pokemon ones where the steelbook has a slot for both versions of the game
I legitimately used the Sheikah Slate case from the BotW S.E. as my go-to Switch case for years and only stopped last year because I got a Satisfye grip and case (not sponsored). The Sheikah Slate case held up remarkably well and kept everything inside nice and safe.

Collector's Editions all depend on how much I like the game, so it's a little annoying that I don't know until after I buy the game. I liked Breath of the Wild more than I expected and Tears of the Kingdom less than I expected.

Usually I like two different collectors edition, if one comes with a statue and the other doesn't.
Most if the time I don't want a statue so having the option not to get it while getting the other goodies is always nice.

Collector's editions are made to never be opened or used. They are meant to collect dust in a case until such time that the original owner wants to sell it for a big profit.
I really want Scott to cover the SNES and the Genesis in a similar format to these kinds of videos he's doing recently.

I was able to get TotK collectors from my local game store, and then I got the Japanese version collectors from Amazon and it shipped in a cool TotK box. It was cool to see that they shipped it with that. 😁
Or you could do what I did, reversed the magnet put the sticky part on the steel poster then use it as a giant fridge magnet I actually found that really nice

The soundtracks are my favorite parts of collector’s editions. From final fantasy to persona, love it.
If a special edition game doesn't include a proper A4 art book and a map of the game world, then it can't truly be considered a special edition.
If a collectors edition only has items like an art book, a soundtrack, and some mini prints that have no exclusive art on them... I won't even give it a second glance even if it's for a favorite game.
The best collectors edition I own, hands down, is Octopath Traveler. It has a POP-UP BOOK.
Also, I did manage to get the BOTW collectors edition and to this day I still use the Sheikah slate case.
Scott, I still to this day have a Five Nights at Freddy's collector coin I got when I was 12 at Gamestop. I keep it on my desk and flip (spin) it when I need to make important decisions with two equally viable options. That's what you do with them. They're for decisionmaking.

Lot of good music in NOTW and TOTK that you can listen in the car, but no one ever talk about Sidon theme. Great piece of music that hasn't been used much in any game. But it did appear in BOTW, TOTK and Age of Calamity in a few different versions (lullaby for baby Sidon, marching one for fights in AOC).
It would be cool to have a separate steelbook collection.

I'm not sure if we had two versions for BotW in Europe, but the one I have came with the master sword statue but with no carrying case. I believe it was 100€.
The slate carrying case is so good I still use it today.
