So happy to see you have chosen to restore this fine motor! 4 years ago I picked up a Jaguar x300 3.2 litre 1996 for £600 GBP. I have spent over £500 on it already, on tyres all round, , brake pads & discs, bushes and other items and I still have another £1,800 to spend on it! I am restoring it to it's full glory and it's not a rush-job as I have all the time in the world. I am not restoring it to sell but merely to drive and watch the heads turn :) Keep up the work on this Jag as we are all waiting to see the results.
I've got an X300 with the 4.0L engine. It needed a respray as the paint was peeling from too much sun exposure and a new headliner as the first owner smoked (nicotine stains, yuck) Well worth the minimal expenditure, and these cars are not as complicated to work on as the armchair mechanics often claim!
I got an x300 3.2 (1997) a couple of months back for £320 needed a fair bit of welding which was way out of my comfort zone so that cost like £300 need to sort the sagging headliner and the dodgy paint work now
So glad to see this car being restored to some level. Definitely will be following this build! As a Jaguar enthusiast, thank you for not letting this car die.

There is no good news regarding this car. The fuses will blow again. The reason they were missing is because time was spent (wasted) on this car before rural Vermonter got it. This car may be good for outdoor chicken feed storage or delivery of grain from one part of the farm to another. A small covered trailer would be hundreds of dollars, and this was free.
The chrome that was making my eyes itch is the vertical stuff on the backs of the doors, it is very tacky and doesnt follow the lines of the car. Just pull it off. I think the chrome on the wheel arches may not be original either..

I’m glad the Jag is coming along great. You should try going to your local auto junk yard and picking up some parts for it for a very low price to make your jag even better. But with that droopy headliner just get some pins or something to hold it up for the time being. I would say the most expensive part with restoring that car would probably be a new paint job. But I’m glad your happy with it.
Im telling you, that is a keeper. Just look at the seats for example. That leather rips if you think too hard about it. That dash, the digital part is usually broken and expensive to fix, yet it still works. Im telling you, after you get rid of the hideous chrome over the wheelarches, and fix the rust, you got a great car. Also, and very important to know is that when the electrics work properly, nothing else is going to break. Those carshave solid powertrains.

You can by lass tge brake warning lights. Splice the brake sensors together. Also same for the fluid level sensors. I am capable of checking my own levels and as you say the grinding of brakes tells you the pads are gone.
One thing that my friend discovered when he was restoring his E30 BMW was that a lot of the time, aftermarket parts were less expensive and just as good as (if not better than) OEM. If you ask me, making this Jag a proper driver's car with parts bought through 1A Auto or JC Whitney or someplace like that would be a fun and worthwhile project. And likely a lot cheaper than a full factory restoration.
I've been a licensed technician for thirty one years now and have owned several XJ6s. Yes, I need to have my head checked. None the less, cheap parts are just that, cheap. Some items can be replaced with inferior parts. Just be careful what it is. Saving twenty bucks on something like a tie rod end might sound excellent but not so much when it falls apart six months down the road. The expression "you get what you pay for" comes to mind. Personally, the only time I use cheap parts is just when I've bought a car to flip. If you gotta spend a couple of hours or more replacing any single part, let's say something like a fuel pump, do you really want to do the work again six months down the road when it fails ? Installing something like brake pads with cheap inferior parts can be extremely dangerous. Pick your battles when it comes to cheap parts. Unless you really enjoy doing the same job twice.
@@darkpassenger7064 is there a solid aftermarket for the British cars like there is for the German ones? When I was sourcing parts for my friend's 1988 BMW 325iX there were tons of parts that were not only less expensive but vastly superior to the OEM. I would argue that 'you get what you pay for' doesn't necessarily always apply to performance and luxury cars, considering companies like to charge exorbitant prices for parts just because they fit on a fancy car. I know the RV industry does it, I would not be surprised if it happened elsewhere.

MGB have a habit of throwing # 2 rod berring on the common 4 cylinder engine. Ask me how I know. You also have to pull the starter before pulling the engine. Great car!
The issue with the motor blower is a transistor soldered in, rip that out put a new one in should work. Everything else is pretty solid and not going to did
brake pad low is likely from a brake sensor thats literally just a wire that runs between the brake pads. when the brakes get low it wears the wire breaks it and throws the light on. some people wont change the sensor. i take those sensors out on my car and zip tie them to the shocks so i never have to replace them and just change the brakes like a normal person
I did a little research and apparently the brake pad sensor wires tend to come out of their holders and get chewed up by the wheels. If you do replace the pads, or if the pads seem fine, check the sensor. EDIT: found this little blip on the Jaguar forums: "88 and 89 cars use a hydraulic boost setup, pump on the front of the engine supplies power to run the rear shocks, and brake boost. Shove a blunt object into your accumulator ball, there is a diaphragm inside to store pressure for the brakes.Resistance felt?Yes =good,no=bad." (User is manwich66) If your brake pedal feels hard to apply, that pump would be a good start. From what I've read, issues with that hydraulic boost system will throw a brake pressure low code like what you're getting.
Polish tat car and you will not even think about scraping it :) Check break pad wear sensor wires near the hubs. They can be cut or damaged insulation, and have contact to chassis. Do same with wires around main brake cylinder.

Shove a blunt object into your accumulator ball, there is a diaphragm inside to store pressure for the brakes.Resistance felt?Yes =good,no=bad." (User is manwich66)
If your brake pedal feels hard to apply, that pump would be a good start. From what I've read, issues with that hydraulic boost system will throw a brake pressure low code like what you're getting.
Wow thanks, that sounds like my issue!
it's a cool beater . if it's running and it's free you have to drive it .
drive it in the summer . with the windows down .lol.
Subbed for more videos of you cleaning this cool car up.
I will repaint that beautiful car and keep it for a while. It's free and it's a jaguar.
You should ask the people to help you out to restore it to its former glory
Restore love jaguar
I'd get it to a level of Daley driver. And take the chrome of around the arches
Polish tat car and you will not even think about scraping it :) Check break pad wear sensor wires near the hubs. They can be cut or damaged insulation, and have contact to chassis. Do same with wires around main brake cylinder.
maybe you need to check the power hydraulic system fluid level
oh and yes how did you tighten the linkage on the door?
There's one of those things that you twist it and it pulls both bolts together so I just twisted it a bunch
Good job✌
jags never had the fake plastic chrome on it and it looks daft they justs had a painted pin stripe down both sides
don’t scrap it! i think your gangster car deserves some love
how deep is your pockets? i had one and they're not worth it
constant failure everywhere
Thanks for appreciating our old British cars. I know they are shit but they're our shit so.its nice that you like them.
Kinda a shame though because that’s a high trimmed one
