I worked at the factory that did all the chrome plating for Jaguar. Walsall in the west Midlands. UK. The exterior parts were plated to a very high specification. Capable of passing 400 hundred hours Neutral Salt Spray test. The parts would be hung in a cabinet and continously sprayed with a warm salt mist and checked daily for sign of corrosion or breakdown of the plated surface. 24 hrs in a NNS is equal to 1 year outdoor exposure. To achieve this standard they are plated with 35/40 microns of copper which is then highly polished to a mirror finish removing any blemishes, pits or holes in the deposit. They are then given a "Duplex" Nickel coating which means a double coat. 1st coat is a dull or semi bright deposit which is applied to 25/30 microns and is a very ductile and flexible deposit that provides the levelling of the deposit. Next the Bright nickel deposit gives us the decorative appearance. This is thin deposit of 10/15 microns because the chemical make up of the bath makes a bright deposit brittle and not very ductile so a thick deposit would be prone to cracks and stress lines in service. Next is a very thin microporous nickel, so thin it cannot be measured. It is deposited with a fine organic powder which gets co deposited to form Millions of pores in the deposit. This slows down effect of "current corrosion" which occurs when multiple layers of metal are deposited on each other creating a electrical current in the deposit which over time corrode the deposit. Finally an equally thin layer of Hexavalent chrome is plated. Giving the beautiful "blue" deposit that gives the part its final look. I have recently retired from 49 years in the Electroplating/Electrophoretic paint/powder coat industry. I have worked mainly in the automotive /aerospace industry producing part for Jaguar /Rolls Royce /Boeing/Airbus /MOD /Mclaren/Aston Martin. Whenevrr I see a car that I have been involved with the plating of the parts. I always have to go an look at the exterior parts to see if they have stood the test of time. So far I've not been disappointed. 👍
strange that the chrome rusts as hell compared to Mercedes Benz, VW or BMW Chrome of the 1970s and 80s! Maybe the Jag Steel was soviet like Fiat and Peugeot
@@Schlipperschlopper No it doesn’t! I own a 94 XJ40 Sovereign, and it has no issues. By contrast, here in England 🏴 most Mercs & BMW’s are rotten.
From a neglected old Jaguar into a gleaming proud Jaguar. I live in the UK and am now on my tenth Jaguar. Not managed to buy an XJ40 yet but maybe one day. I sure wish I had inherited that example, its a keeper!
My favorite Jag design, this car never got the love it deserves. This car is amazing to drive and very beautiful. I think many people who owned one didn't take good care of them.
Amazing work, absolutely fantastic. Only thing that I dont like is the music that kills the vibe of classy gentleman's car like this Jag. There must have been more suitable music for this beautiful car. Keep up with good work guys!
I used to not care for the XJ40...both the Series III XJ6 and the X300 were much better looking. But as time goes by, I find the old XJ40's growing on me. That one looks beautiful in that shade of green. And by 1994, Jaguar had all the gremlins exorcised from the design, and these and the later X300s were incredibly reliable. If I could find one in this shade of green with the 6.0L V12, I would be very tempted....
I also have a 1994 XJ40. Same wheels and trim (base model) but in Regency Red. BRG was my first choice but couldn't find one back in 2007 so I bought it in red which was my 2nd color choice. The top of the headrests tells how much time the car spent out in the sun. These headrests are pretty flat on the top. Mines have horns on them because the leather shrank.
I sill think the 1970s one series Jaguar was the best one in the UK I had 3or4 of them but I loved the 70s one. Love your videos here in the UK thanks. Jeff in UK
It’s been in a barn for at least 25 minutes! Trying to pass this off as a barn find is equivalent to assuming your collectors edition Kit-Kat is worth something. 😶
Early model XJ40's rust pretty badly. My father owned an '88 Sovereign and an '87 Daimler and spent huge amounts on them. After a number of years both were in bad shape, the Daimler having rotted completely through. Later models - '90 onward - were way better.
The detailing was done at our home office in Chicago, IL were 303 Products are manufactured so there was no "charge". How much would you charge for a detail like this?!
I don't know why I see so many people who do not foam a car FIRST, BEFORE spraying HIGH PRESSURE water on it. Doing this first softens hard dirt particles and lubricates the paint surface PRIOR to high pressure. When you spray high-pressure water directly on a car that is dirty, you scratch the paint with micro scratches. Just saying...
I would like to say I'll buy it, but alas I would be unwilling to say what I would pay. If the owner wants to sell I would like to know what they want for it.
According to the federal HESCHLAVVO law, it is already forbidden in Switzerland to drive combustion engines on mountain passes from 2025. In France, the SCHLABOUBVE regulates that fossil vehicles that produce fine dust are prohibited in all cities from 2025. The BABVVO in Germany will bann exhaust gas pollution from 2027 and that is what will happen in entire EU also bann of all tires and brakes because of fine dust!!!!!!

This model great balance between old and new I agreed unappreciated

Agree. The music chosen distracts and detracts from the otherwise very good presentation.
Great job saving this one! I drive a 99 XJR and I love it.

The paint code is HFB. Brooklands Green.

what is her fuel milleage liter/km?
Headliner and shocks require attention , shock float too much and headliner is bagging too much Just a suggestion, don’t get mad !
