I watched the most beautiful video. how wonderful. Success is not built on success. It's built on failure, it's built on frustration, it's built on fear that you have to overcome. I pray that whoever reads this will succeed in life, a big hug from Vietnam.
As much time as I spend watching Ted build, I could build a log cabin. It's addicting. I think my favorite thing is the silence. No annoying explanations. Just great camera angles, sounds of nature and bacon and eggs! Thanks , Ted.
tHANK you for investing wholeheartily your craftmanship skills for they are so evident on camera, thank you for your hardwork. You are "bankable" sir Ted Baird. Cheers
Thanks! It was pretty camouflage and tucked away from the elements like wind and blows snow. It turned out to be a great spot and it lasted almost another year with no maintenance before I removed it for safety. Was a good test of natural materials in harsh conditions
I watch a lot of bush craft videos and this one demonstrates the most talents and long term survival set up I've seen! I hope you were able to be out there more than 3 times. NICE shelter.
That muskox throw must be really warm, and snow is an excellent insulator. Use to snow so much growing up I would be able to dig an igloo out of a mound. Everyone said you won’t stay warm, hey! Not as cold in here! The stone backdrop to your shelter and the stone around your fire help hold the warmth too, love it! And then you put your heart into it 😂
It is you are correct. The pelt is extremely warm. People are always surprised how great of an insulator snow is it rell does keep you warm. There were a lot of things going fir this shelter and the location and the cliff and rocks definitely added to its effectiveness for sure. Bet yiu have a lot of found memories building those igloos. Thanks for watching catch ya later
Back in Maine we did something banking our houses there's any holes in the bottom of the house for the basement in the house meet we just throw snow around it all the way around the whole house man in it held the heat in very good I like how you showed us all the little bit about making a couple different fires
Sir: You are one, hard-working man. I am impressed. Thank you for this video. Every time I watch a video of someone building a shelter, simple or not, from strictly natural materials with minimal hand tools, I am reminded of the value of a 10' X 10' (3 m. X 3 m.) tarp. Again, thank you for this video. Subscribed.
Ted i know that u are a very intelligent and creative person, so please be careful under that much snow, if just one part gave the weight from all that would be so heavy u would never get out.
I’ve been watching and following you guys for a few years now that I have always thought I was subscribe to your channel because it’s always popping up but I looked at it and I wasn’t subscribed so I am now I’ve been subscribe to your brothers channel for quite some time I really enjoy your guises videos. I watch them way too much all of them five hour videos all the way through it’s ridiculous.😂❤❤❤😂 OK so I got a idea that Tori and Heather go out on a camping trip with just the two girls and do this all themselves. What do you think? Do you know go canoeing and camping fishing catch and cook something like that anyways, keep on keeping on brother.
It's very impressive, but I didn't think about the weight of the snow piled up the second time. The first thing to do is remove the snow that has fallen on top before surrounding it with trees. The weight of snow is a thought, so safety should be considered first.
Great video. That fur must have been super warm. That pressure cooker was amazing. Went and checked out Bella. Nice fur baby. Thanks for taking me along. You really needed a spoon for that great looking chicken broth.
I think I was most impressed with your pressure cooking skills! Who knew one of my favorite camping\adventuring folks was such a cook! I have personally always been petrified of pressure cookers. Beautiful camp and excellent demonstration of fire skills. Wasn’t the tree beautiful with the bark removed? Wood is one of the most beautiful things. That took quite a bit of work and certainly seemed to keep you nice and dry throughout the year. Loved that little woodpecker, too. I thank you for bringing us along on your trips to the woods.
Thanks Dee. I'm sacred of rhe pressure cooker too! Lol guess it amps up the cooking a bit. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. The wood was very beautiful I agree as was the visit from the woodpecker. Have a great night
what an awesome shelter looked very comfortable with that Muskox fur down and warm fire good food in your belly , Love the use of the bark for the roof area , Nice to see how the shelter held up after a year the pressure cooker you have is pretty sweet love it ! would be something nice to own betcha that chicken was tender . thanks for bringing us along very enjoyable .
Ok. Just subscribed. This little hideaway was epic. The bark wood slabs ? Severely epic. Never seen huge slabs used like that. The cordage was impressive too. When it was first made I felt to want more coverage. Then the snow enclosed it along with adding more foliage. Yeah ok I became a fan.
Very impressive, you have great fire lighting skills. i have never seen a bushcraft shelter with so much snow on it, all held up with 2 strands of bark! Its good to see a shelter last for many uses and improvements made to it
Lol ya it's a serious pain in the ass. Bloodied the knuckles even. The space was too tight in there. But I fine when you make the set up so much is just tweaking the board and spindle etc once you get it diald in the next several are much easier....still a pain however haha. But all fun to do. It kinda feels like magic to me
Basswood must be native to Eastern Canada….I am familiar with Cottonwood and it’s amazing resilience…I’m taking it that Basswood has these same treasured qualities…yes and Cottonwood is a go to survival tree for its many qualities…I can see it’s true value if you only have limited tools and no tarps ….for survival….very interesting information this time Ted thank you….that’s why I return again and again to your documentaries….absolute respect for your skills once again….I assume the long houses were barked with Basswood
Thank you. Actually, the longhouses traditionally used Elm. I believe it is superior. I have used Black Ash before also when building a longhouse. I would say it is superior to the Basswood, however I can't be certain as this Basswood had long blown down and it was early winter when I removed it, thus the bark was of poor quality and difficult to remove. I've never removed Basswood from a live tree in spring so I'm unsure how it would be in comparison, however the Ash that was harested in spring when sap flow was high the bark came off in big clean sheets in about 15 minutes and it can be pushed off with your hands. Pretty amazing. Unfortunately, the invasion of the Emerald Ash Borer has all but wiped out the Ash here, and Elm suffered from Dutch Elm disease years ago, so these resources are being lost.... I've even seen a canoe made from spruce bark and of course birch is excellent.....I think that it is a good skill to have for sure and does not have to be this tedious depending on the time of year it is removed. A tarp would only last so long, and perhaps one would want additional roofed structures in addition. Thanks for your input 👍
A ten pound pressure cooker? No thanks...And a ferrorod is better but I understand the satisfaction of using the bow thing....Very nice cinematography and appreciated the no speaking vibe
This is my childhood outside Sudbury. I'm loving this and would love to go back to my roots. The cost of living is crazy. If I could get enough to live off queen land and do a grocery store trip once a month or so I'd be happy. Where is this video made?
Thanks Charlie. I ended up taking it down for safety just incase it was still up after and winter and almost 2 years without maintenance it would have lasted longer also. Was a great test of the natural materials. The pressure cooker is pretty sweet for sure good for the stove top even. Thank for tuning in. 🍻
Amazing, dude!! I want to start my channel showing the pantanal brazilian jungle. Its a very different looking, for sure people will love! You have some tip for who want to start this bushcrafting youtuber hobby?
Hi, great video. I was just wondering what it was that you put in your drinking water while it boiled and what, if any, are the benefits? Caffeine? Or just flavoring? Very curious. Thanks for the video!
Thank you. It was Chaga Fungus it is the same thing I used to help make the fire with the knife and rock. It grows predominantly on Birch trees and has a lot of health benefits including evidence to show it is a cancer figter. If you google Chaga you will get a lot of good info on it
I would like very much to stay one night there . If I can't sleep I imagine building a shelter. Works even time . Bravo
