- EPISODE 196: In this episode, I offer some of my game play strategy while playing Raiden ! I've played Raiden on and off since it's 1990 debut, and have found that it still stands up very well against the test of time. A super solid, super fun and well designed game. Give it a go if you've never played it!

WOW! Raiden, what a choice of a title Matt. I use to be so much into the game that I never wanted to stop playing it. I really miss going to the arcades to have fun passing the time with Raiden bro. I miss those days. 8^)

Ah the good old days! We all miss those amazing times... the carefree days with no responsibilities...and Raiden 2 player co-op!! I don't think I'll ever tire of this game. Cheers for now!
Excellent walk through for the first two levels, that's probably more than most people (myself included) can take in at once! 😅 Good example of controlling the screen there in stage 2.
I never spent much time on Raiden, though there were cabinets in every arcade it seemed. Tough one, but very nostalgic!
Thank you very much! I played this a LOT back in the day, but only ever played 2 player / cooperative. What (still) amazes me is how different a single player game is, and how well the game "scales" accordingly. Thanks as always for the comment!
Raiden is so good, some may think that Toaplan made it. Good tips for Stages 1 & 2 too 😜
I think of Raiden as the grandaddy / the OG of modern shooters (well, at least before bullet hell). Before that, there were Space Invaders and Scramble. I always think of Raiden when I play Fire Shark.

@@DeadThumbGamer Whenever I make my game chronology vid, it'll be explained. There was a step in between Space Invaders and Raiden--of course, that being Xevious.
Raiden to me is a culmination of all of the late 80's shooters, exactly as @whatsonmyshelf is alluding to. It's just a perfect blend of the old school shoot-em-up genre, with much improved graphics and music. U absolutely love this game!
@@arcadesunday4592 perspectives are relative aren’t they. Good thing, ours have no relevance to Raiden’s Pro or Cons.

Thank you ! This game is just so iconic of the "modern" 90's shoot em up, which in my mind single handedly challenged all developers of the era to higher highs!

I love Raiden and suck at it. But, I do pretty OK on the Viper.
Haha! I rate myself as 'OK' in Raiden, but it does get rather difficult from stage 3 onward. Thanks for watching!
So IDK if you've addressed it, but how are you managing as an arcade gamer in South Africa with the power situation?
Ah, very good question. I did a video some time ago about "load shedding". Check out episode 119! We have a real problem with electricity, but the reasons are not what they seem... Great question. I can supply a lot more information on this subject if necessary.
...such as the amount of corruption and *known* criminal syndicates which constantly sabotage and affect the electrical grid on a *daily basis* much to the detriment of our economy and people at large. The issues with our power generation and distribution are destroying our country, and it's a MAJOR and important problem for the government to solve.

Hi! Raiden Trad is a game I've never played, but know of it on Megadrive (at least). I'll check it out, as it looks like a good Arcade port. I played THE Japanese PSX version in ~1992 and that was 99% Arcade perfect, along with a vertical screen option (which i used successfully with a 72cm CRT TV!) so yea...
