Thanks for watching guys! This horse is actually doing really well considering the laminitis from 4 months ago. X rays don’t show any coffin bone rotation and we expect a full recovery of the hoof capsule in a a few more months.
Let me see if I remember the written portion of my schooling and what was done and why. Bar shoe, with dual toe clips to keep that wall together and allow it to start to grow in again, and maybe a frog plate? To keep the pressure even all across and the frog from pushing and flexing the wall?

I’m a 72 y/o MaMaw from Northern California. Do I watch cooking or sewing channels? Nah, I watch farriers create amazing shoes for horses! Thank you so very much for sharing your excellent skills and for helping this horse recover. Love the video! 🤎🐎🐴
I watch sew channels too. But my favorite is seeing farriers and cow hooves relieving the pain of my friends outside and inside. I trim my big dog’s nails. Sometimes I wish I had someone to help me keep them still. Ferries are amazing .
Aawww, you sound so sweet. Ya, that's me. I'm not a girly girl. I love this stuff, but I'm in Texas on a little piece of land. We used to have a horse, but I'm a retired RN with a disabled back and no longer able to walk without pain, much less ride my horse. So horse gone. I got chickens now. 😅
You would be stunned to know how intelligent horses are. Once they are working horses they really tune in to their environment and read things very well. They know when someone is there to help, especially if that person knows how to touch and talk with horses. My friend's horses are always trying to outsmart her. They're very clever and sneaky.....
Love the repair with help from little girl. Hoof looks great. You really help horses and donkies in need of real attention. I am an addict of your work. Very interesting. You always think of their comfort/how long they can stand and balance while shoeing.
This is an ancient craft and so much better for the horses that have hoof problems. Thank you for learning this valuable trade and passing it on. Very professional and I watch many farriers growing up in 1950’s uk use these same tools in our village blacksmith’s forge. Thank you for caring how these lovely horses can be helped instead of being destroyed.
I know nothing about farriers, but the minute I saw you scrapping the inside of those hoofs (it made me squeamish), I was fascinated and couldn't help but continue watching. What a skill that is. The intuitive and visual understanding of the horse's foot seems essential. And the horse was so patient and gentle while you worked. Maybe he is saying to himself, I am relieved to be getting this done. Great video.
Excellent work! Truly one of the very best repairs for the situation I've ever seen. Your commentary was a perfect addition especially for the needed understanding of some. This is the difference a talented farrier can make in literally saving a horse. Many thx for your dedication knowledge skill and patience. For the love of horses...
Love watching the work you do to help the horses out in any situation they are in. Wish we had farriers like you in north central Wisconsin. Very well behaved blue roan stallion. Glad he will have a full recovery.
So many farriers film with no talking. I'm happy to find one who does talk. I like to hear about what they are doing and why. Thank you for caring for these beautiful animals. 💜
This is the first time I actually saw a horse being shoed. Very interesting. It certainly requires a lot of skill, but the most important thing is your love for the horses. It comes across in your video. Thank you.😊
Really great to see a Blacksmith/Farrier at work & giving these horses the best chance to heal, ur explanation of the injuries is educational, but when u said, "Woooo" so kindly to that horse & had ur cute little helper do some sanding it was the best ❤
Such a joy to watch someone who know what he's doing help an animal do well. And, kudos to the cute little helper, she put love into each stroke on the hoof so it'll heal well.
Horses are so fortunate to have you as their friend, I myself do not own a horse but I'm pretty sure I would take care of them better than these people did. Thank you for being there for them.
Anybody who asks you why you make custom shoes for a horse has obviously never had custom shoes or boots made for themselves. There is a reason why custom shoes made for people are generally extremely expensive. Custom made shoes are almost always a perfect fit, it doesn't get any better than that. Just like for people, custom shoes made for a horse are a genuine blessing, especially when they are made for a horse. Blessed in the farrier for taking the time to make the best shoes possible. Some farriers I've known don't know how to make shoes from scratch.
I am happy, I have handmade shoes. They cost $500/pair but last 13 years, as they never get worn out because of the perfect fit. I never feel tired in my feet, spine, or head. Chose this because I stand and walk all day long in school. They fit so well that I feel I don't have any shoes on; "they fit like a glove." Well worth every penny.
I admire a ferrier that makes custom shoes and takes pride in their craft. This video is complementary to both the ferrier and the owner/trainer of that stallion. Was a pleasure watching you work and really wish we had a ferrier in our area that could make custom shoes.
Don't know where you are located but you can, in most states, contact the large agricultural colleges and ask who the school knows closest to you who does custom shoes.
I refuse to use any farrier that can’t blacksmith and forge. It is a true talent and those farriers are the most knowledgeable too. Seems to be a lost art in some areas.
