Do I own a horse ? No! Do I know anything about horses and their feet? No! And yet here I am loving this. So peaceful watching u work, have no clue why but you keep doing you 😂
@@caleberickson_The_Dying_Breed Totally different tho. Hoof GP’s got a machine to do the heavy lifting. He doesn’t have to bend over all day. You really have a physical job bending over those hoofs every day, holding that hoof up, cutting, rasping. Hope you make big bucks like GP from social media. 🇺🇸
How are you going to stop a dog eating? You'd have to watch them every second. lol. Love the logo, very cool. Take pride in your working hands, Ignorant people comment and judge, not everyone works behind a desk.. Lastly, run a "xxx " phone line whilst trimming the hooves, your heavy breathing there going to waste...🤑🤑😂😂
CALEB!!! Ignore the people that have nothing good to say about ANYTHING. You do a great job with all the different hooves. Can't please everyone, especially the ones that actually know nothing!!!!
You were totally cracking me up about the Rona, homeschooled, game of thrones conversation 🤣 Thanks for making this rescue's feet! What a world of difference! I like the new logo too!
I once had a cob come to the UK from Ireland. Very nice bay mare. Her feet were so long but had maintained all four shoes, when she moved her shoes didn’t clink they kerflopped! No one was interested in her because of her feet. The farrier trimmed one hook leaving the shoe still on. Once trimmed and reshot, I clipped her fully and hogged (roached) her mane. She was a different horse. Sold her to someone who had previously turned her down, for three times the money. She went on to compete in cob show classes and take many major wins.
Wow, I was not aware that shoes needed to be replaced so frequently. I always thought that they lasted months to at least a year. This must keep you guys busy.
I literally subscribe to you yesterday and been watching a lot of videos. I absolutely love the way you have compassion for the horses and how you give your viewers insight to what you do. It’s really helpful and enjoyable to watch. ❤❤ Now as the new logo goes. I LOVE IT ❤ it’s so Awesome! Again thanks so much for all the knowledge and enjoyable videos. ❤
Heck, the breathing is part of life! If I were mic'd up walking up to my condo on the 3rd floor, it'd probably sound like a wind storm by the time I made it up
Great new logo mate. No doubt the podcast will extend on the ‘dying breed’. We enjoy the art of the dying breed of shoeing horses and the passion in which you have for the profession.
WOW!! I really love the new logo Caleb, it's strong and dynamic. Farriers are indeed a 'Dying Breed', and I would definitely follow your podcast, for there's so much I can still learn. Greetings from South Africa 😊🇿🇦
Not sure how the YT algorithm got your video in my watch list …. but loooving it and addicted now 😊. Love the new intro and logo. Sending positive vibes from Cape Town in South Africa. 🐎
My father was an industrial electrical engineer and it would be ANOTHER scar to add to the collection 😉 😅 love your channel. If you get a burn again, get some local blossom honey from a keeper and add to a dressing. The wrap for 24 hours and change, repeat the honey. You don’t need loads, half a teaspoon will do. Now the honey will do a number of things but one is help healing swiftly and keep the wound bed healthy for epithial cells to form islands and migrate to close the wound. It’s really good for burns and inflammation in wounds. My old life tissue viability was part of my job and wound care. Honey, normally manuka honey works best, heals wounds! Anyway love the channel
@@nicem8746 yeah silver is good, it’s caustic so can sting like hell. Manuka Honey is best and don’t be fooled by medical honey, it’s just filtered better off getting unmolested honey, just spun from the frame and jarred. The local honey is just as good.
Breathing is a GOOD thing! We really don’t care if we hear you, Raymond Burr, an old school actor who sounded like he had a lung issue, was once asked why he breathed like that? He replied “To keep myself Alive!”
Love the new brand logo, Caleb!! And I can't wait for the first podcast!! I use a Heller rasp as well, which was my grandfather's rasp, on the foals. Caleb your work is so satisfying, thank you for your love of beautiful horses, noble souls that should never be ridden, but just loved for the beautiful creatures that they are ❤
Nice job on those front hooves Caleb. I bet he feels much better now. I hope you can do his rear hooves soon and re-shoe him. Once all four are done I think he’ll feel like he’s in heaven. That will be nice!! Podcasts sound interesting, educational and maybe fun. I’m still getting used to the new company name and logo. Until next time. ❤❤❤❤
Exactly! Fun times & I always enjoy the local news. It actually helps our community keep in touch. I super appreciate farriers...its not an easy job & one I dont want to do! 😉
I love the new intro. Very artistic, not just various photos, but tinted and transitioned one into the other beautifully. This is my first viewing of your channel. You explain all the treatments you’re doing and why. I also follow The Hoof GP, who also explains everything so beautifully. It’s all so fascinating. Cows’ (ungulates’) hooves are so totally different anatomically and evolutionary wise from horses’ hooves. How often do shoes need to be changed? Have a great day! 💙🌷🌱
You are right about the wild horses, I have a Mustang and when I got him last year he was very unbalanced in his hoofs and has one front that's turned inwards. Only a few HMAs exist where the horses are being estimated to be 20 years old but most of them are barely reaching the age of 15 years.
I believe if you ask things of your horses, you should keep up the health of these great animals, that includes their hooves!! Thanks for showing a correct way to do it..
"Yellowstone is like Game of Thrones for country people." Lol that's the first time I've heard that. I don't care for Yellowstone but I'm a HUGE Game of Thrones/House of the Dragon fan! Guess I'm just not country enough. 🤷♀️ Still love my horses though.
With your comment on which side of the hoof to rasp first - would the same rule apply to a left hand dominant farrier? Obviously both hands are vital to this work, but I can’t help but wonder. I know hoof knives are made with different edges for carving, and than scissors are also made specifically for lefties. Just honestly curious. Best of luck with your new podcast!
Someone here said you have to apologize for having workingman’s hands. Who says that? ? If you’re trying to be a rich, society person - maybe then you’d want soft hands, you don’t even have to clean your dishes! So many people work with their hands - farmers, crafters, builders, house cleaners, ranchers, gardeners, scientists, veterinarians, sculptors, mechanics, woodworkers, firefighters, painters. . . Even musicians’ fingers and hands use the muscles differently and their hands show this. Working man’s hands are beautiful. B&W photos of them can be a work of art. Have a great day! :)💙🌷🌱
Looking these great videos I always asked myself how do wild horses deal with long hooves...?? Do they grow so much as with tamed horses...?? Regards from Argentina
I live in an area that does not have decent farriors, so as a senior I am still having to do my horses feet thanks for the vidio sure wish we had good farriors here!!??!!❤😮❤
My thoughts are, if you can’t maintain your own horses feet then you shouldn’t own horses. Growing up we maintained between professional trimmings. At any rate your work is beautiful
This is the first video of yours that I've watched, so I can't compare the logo, but while "cool" looking it is also promoting smoking. 😢 it would be better if they guy was holding up a farriers tool, IMHO. I love the intro vid, but it's going to make me think twice about getting parmesan cheese grated over my food! 😅
Keep hydrogel burn pads and cohesive bandage in your people first aid kit in your truck. The hydrogel is excellent for burns and helps it not blister and takes the fire out of the burn. Cohesive bandage will hold the hydrogel in place.

Since you wear a billed hat, you can clip your mic to the front of it and you won't pickup your breathing, but your voice will be clear.

I think hearing the breathing gives a good perspective of how laborious this job actually is ;)

Your hands are the hands of a working man. It's sad that we are in a time where people make you feel like you need to apologize for that.
I think it was mostly that people would be concerned about his health rather than trolling him... Or at least I hope so!
