  • In this video I show you how to clean, oil, thread and maintain a sewing machine. I also explain the parts on the machine as I go along The one I am using is a juki , I talk about tension issues you can come across and how to correct the problem, I also talk about filling a spool and sometimes there are filling issues if the spool is just slightly too big .You can use the methods I use on all machines relating to tension issues its the same principle really , it really is quite easy when you know how.

    This is probably one of the best videos on the DDL8700! I've watched other videos and they were incorrect compared to your instruction! First, the store I bought my machine from told me that I never had to oil my machine, but just keep the pan filled and it will run forever. Watching your video, I realized I've got to get some oil and get busy oiling other parts. Second, I was having issues with my tension and the thread on the bottom was "railroading". As soon as I was done watching the your video through the tension part, I immediately went to my machine made some adjustments and BAM, all fixed!!!! I can't even tell you how excited and happy I am to have found your little channel! I've already subscribed and look forward to watching other videos. Thank you so very much from the USA!

      She’s actually doing that part wrong, probably due to experience with other machines. This machine has an oil pump so that it automatically oils all of the moving parts, not just the ones at the bottom. It’s a little funny as you can actually see little tubes going directly to the areas she’s wasting time oiling that carry oil there automatically. As she says in the video, over oiling can be just as bad as under oiling so I wouldn’t recommend adding any oil yourself the way she does in this video unless you personally know your oil pump has stopped working.

      Hi after reading your message, I have been and looked over my machine very thoroughly, yes there is one single tube that goes up to the top of the machine and I would like to thank you for bringing this to my attention, I don’t know how I missed that , there is nothing at all that oils the parts underneath the needle plate, I have had my machine for many years and touch wood had no major issues, I would still recommend oiling all the parts that I point out in the video because you can not see exactly where the tubes goes to X

    Thank you, I will use these instructions to clean and oil my machine.
    Regarding tension, one should check using the right size needle and threaded it right before changing tension, especially on the bobbin case.
    One can check the tension in the bobbin case by putting the bobbin in and hold the thread and see if it drops or not. A little nudge and it should drop a bit but stop.

    • @TinaBambina
      @TinaBambina  ปีที่แล้ว

      Check to see if the machine is threaded right , the needle doesn’t play a part in the tension, threads and it been threaded right does and the bobbin case will slowing drop if you hold the thread and let it tyebbobbin case drop to your opposite hand but it won’t stop you just have to catch it in your hand x

    • @TinaBambina
      @TinaBambina  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No the stitch is nothing to do with the belt , firstly check that the machine is threaded correctly on top and underneath in the bobbin case , if the tension is loose on top as you sew then you need to tighten the screw on the bobbin case if the tension is loose underneath as your sewing then you need to tighten the upper tension disc , just remember always opposite so tension problem when the threading is all correct when the problem is on top it’s the tension underneath and when the problem is underneath then it’s the tension on top to adjust x

      Hi ok there’s two screws on the piece you push forward for the bobbin to be pushed into place to start it filling ,check that these are tight first then check the long bottom bar that runs the full length of the side of the machine that sits underneath where the cotton runs before been wound onto the bobbin that all those screws are fully tighten if they are then you will need to contact the seller if it is still loose , hope this helps x

    I have an 8700 and it is a great machine. My question is when sewing with heavy polyester tread, large needle, and sunbrella canvas. My bobin adjust is very loose and the top tension is very very tight to get an "OK" stitch. The ultimate goal is to have upper and lower stitch look the same. I read that the bracket just above the upper tensioner can be moved left or right for heavier thread. Do you know what is actually happening when moving that to either side?

    • @TinaBambina
      @TinaBambina  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mike I have never had to move mine , but I also use heavy polyester thread and I don’t change my tension much on top or underneath and the stitch is fine.

    Hi Tina, I am in the USA. Your video is lovely. I do have a question about the needles which I haven't found an answer to. My juki is the DDL-227 (It's older). I just purchased it pre owned. The Manual says to use needles with the designation DB X 1 (231) . When serching to purchase them, all I see are ones which are DB X 1 (257) . Question is are these interchangeable or should I continue looking for the 231 needles? Thank you.

      If you have a new machine the knee lift does loosen over time , if it’s not new if you look under your machine and follow the knee lift bar there is a nut bolt that can be loosen , you can try this if you want it loosening off .

      Hi
      Obviously our models are the older ones and are noisy machines to start off with, these machines are work horses and are made to last, my machine has had a slightly different noise of late , I’ve gave it a good once over and I think it’s still a bit noisier but I’m not to concerned about it , it is working fine and still doing a great job , you can get new motors for the machine if you are quite concerned about the noise , the new ones are quite but to be fair the noise does not bother me.
