when real programs came on and you were actually excited to get home and watch!! Robotech, Voltron, Thundercats, Transformers!!! nothing beats the 80's!!
Gi Joe, Lost in Space, the Original Spiderman Cartoon. One of the local non main stations aired many of the cartoons from the 80s. All the stuff I grew up on Starblazers, then TBS aired Battle of the Planets, or you would get the Canadian stations etc. Plus you had Battle Star Galactica, Buck Rogers, basically Transformers only aired on Saturdays at first, unless they were showing one of the Mini Series. Gi Joe 83, Transformers 84, plus the USA Cartoon express aired a lot of watchable stuff. another of the better later cartoons was Exosquad. Though Exosquad and Robotech are extremely similar as to Vehicles. In Japan Macross, Robotech Masters, and New Generation were all separate shows. Starblazers was from 1979. Battle of the Planets was 1978. Robotech aired at first in the Evening and then in the morning later on. I don't think all the episodes were ever shown from the Macross saga. and when it aired on Syfy or Cartoon Network they skipped New Generation entirely. I thought Macross and New Generation were the 2 best ones. I have been watching various Ultraman episodes on TOKU mostly Leo, though I watched some of The Ultraman which was a Cartoon version. I managed to find Robotech II the Sentinels I even had Macross the Movie on VHS which had some parts that were cut out of the series. plus I bought the Shadow Chronicles. At least one of the Toys was the Transformer Skyfire aka Jetfire. Nothing does beat the 80s Godzilla Movies, all the Planet of the Apes films. plus the TV Series. All that stuff used to be shown Regularly they would have Planet of the APes week. Godzilla vs King Kong. Some of the Godzilla movies have these alien Ape creatures. The 70s and 80s were the Golden Age for TV for Kids. Though the Original Spiderman Cartoon was from the 60s. The live action series was cool. one of the Shows on TOKU was done by the same people that did Voltron it was Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs. With a lot of the same voice actors. To me that was also the Golden Age of Comics. I remember the Gobots TV series. All of that was on basically 2 Local stations that were not the Major networks plus TBS showed one or two things. I also remember Spiderman and his Amazing Friends. The Original Hulk Cartoon. Mr T. , all this stuff that would be on Cartoon Express like Devlin, Sport Billy with one of the most Iconic Villian Henchmen Sipe!!!!!!
I'm sure a lot of people would agree with me if I said that ROBOTECH/MACROSS is in dire need of a remake (it's been long enough) and this style would be PERFECT! Edit: Comment from years ago. Deleting after next reply.
I'd love to just see the original series be remade with updated art like this, with better battles, maybe even expand the story a bit. Don't even have to get that far off the original story wise.
Don't like this animation..but it could be remade...I have alof of notes on how they should change it but keep the episodes in tact with obv additions.. some changes include..changing the zentraedi soldier size to around 70% of a valkyrie battlloid. Change the macross size to 4km maybe even 5km bigger than the Nupetiet class fleet command ship. This would tie in with the dimensions of a ship able to house a city the way they depicted it in the series. Basically separating it from the other zentraedi class warships. .making it more special. 1.2 km was waay to small. The size of a scout ship. Also dropping the zentraedi armada size from 4.8m to around a couple of 100 000..also increasing the global earth directorate defense forces...just update these numbers. Also keep the tomcat model for the valkyrie.
Siempre Ame Robotech❤❤️🔥 Desde mis 12 años ..tengo 41 y aun los Amo y Amaré.. Y siempre eh esperado que llegue "UN Rick" a MI VIDA..SALUDOS DESDE ARGENTINA 😊🇦🇷😍
I remember this being Macross in Japan when I was a young kid and then later in the states as Robotech as an older kid. The feeling I felt back then knowing that a great anime was now showing in the states made feel all giddy. Now after seeing this remastered version I feel like that same kid of many years ago. Thank you for posting this.
Seems like the best programming came from Japan from Godzilla movies, to shows like Ultraman, my older brother got to see Johnny Sokko and his Robot. I am finding things on the Toku channel like Ultraman but really only want to see the older ones like Ultraman Leo, Robotech even as an adult had me hooked. because I could see and feel the emotions of the characters. Like I posted above I thought the two best were Macross and New Generation. I even have one of the New Generation Comics. So much of what came from Japan as far as Robot Toys got Americanized in some way like the Shogun Warriors comic. Gobots/ Transformers. You had a lot of great toylines and companies wanting this stuff from Hasbro, Kenner, Mattel, Mego. I even noticed the American influence in Japan Culture watching Ultraman Leo. Detroit Lions Helmet, Green Bay Packers clothing. That was from 1974-75.
in the english language version Min-May was voiced by a tone-deaf actress and all of her songs sucked yet she was the pop star the world adored. She would haeve been lauged at on xfactor now days.
It always seemed weird to me as a kid that Force of Arms wasn't the finale of the series. It's so utterly and unbelievably epic and seemed like a pretty natural place for the series to conclude. I do think all of the rebuilding stuff was good also, and to appropriately have Khyron end up as the final villain (because, let's be honest, he is by far the best villain in all of Robotech) but To the Stars didn't have quite the same climactic punch
Well it was the end, they suddenly had an extra order of episodes so that's why it felt anticlimactic to have a second finale. Still I'm glad it happened. Few shows depict what happened after the end
The Macross version of the post war episodes makes more sense as there is no attempting to edit in Southern Cross as part two with the Robotech Masters. AND its a happier ending as you learn the rest of the bridge crew survived. Still, I love both versions, very bittersweet ending no matter how many times ive seen it.
It was originally intended to be the last episode. My understanding is, that due to it's popularity they added more episodes. This is by far one of the most epic Acton packed animated story telling ever!
Episode 28 to 36 are kind of an epilogue. The main part of the series ended in episode 27 for sure. If it ended in episode 27, we would be asking who Rick ended up with. Lisa or Minmei. What happened to Khyron and Azonia? The final 9 episodes are some of the most mature episodes also. They felt like a real soap opera. Not for children at all. Very adult entertainment with Claudia talking to Lisa all night about her relationship with Roy Fokker and commitment and all that. It was on another level.
Robotech one of the Great Cartoons like a lot of the stuff that originally came from Japan it touches the emotions. the Love Triangle between Rick Hunter, Lisa Hayes, Lin Minmay, I have this, Star Blazers, and some of Battle of the Planets on DVD. Plus been watching Ultraman Leo, and saw the Movie for Space Adventure Cobra.
Wonderful anime, possibly the first one to become mainstream in Western culture. Also, had my first anime crush for the black-haired girl working on the bridge of the SDF-1!

It's funny, given how against Hollywood "remakes" I am, but after the success of Space Battleship Yamato 2199 I think it would be amazing to give the same treatment to Macross now.
