    In this video, Lloyd shows you how to do a forward inside mohawk on ice. This can be a tough move to learn at first, but it is very important. The main thing is to focus on opening the foot enough to be able to step to backwards comfortably.
    You should be able to do basic forward skating and basic backward skating before trying this. Being comfortable doing one foot glides forward and backward is also important.

    Watching this, I can see the mistakes I’m making, not opening my hip, closing my shoulder. Thank you for making this video, I’ll practice this tonight

      Thanks for your analysis of mistakes while doing the mohawk turn! any suggestions to root out closing shoulders and hips to early? Are there any moves you can practice to get rid of those mistakes? Doing figures maybe?

    • @IceCoachOnline
      @IceCoachOnline  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@anneguntert1566 of course doing figures is always very beneficial as it teaches you a lot of edge control and body positioning.
      Doing a basic two foot turn in a straight line or on a curve is a good way of practicing using your upper body and lower body to make turns happen. Also it's good go do a few light back stretches before starting to just so you can get used to the feeling of rotating the core. If you are too rigid when trying the turns, you will really struggle to check the rotation using the hip and shoulder.
      Finally, practice holding the different edges on a curve. The better your balance on each edge both forwards and backwards will help tremendously.

    Ah, so that's why! Looks like I've been struggling with the last mistake. Closing the shoulder and hip too fast! Thank you!

    I really gotta pay attention to my arms! D: Thanks for the pointers! Next time when I go practice I'll make sure to pay attention to my arms!

      We're glad to hear you found the video helpful! Positioning the arms correctly is very important. You can make things incredibly difficult by using them incorrectly!

    Now I know what I'm doing wrong! I wasn't keeping my feet open enough during the direction change so I kept doing 3 turns instead of mohawks. Can you make more videos on compulsory figures? I want to learn the inside loop but the videos I've found so far aren't very helpful. Thanks!
    Also, is it just me or does anyone else feel the urge to stick a Starfleet pin to Lloyd's shirt?

      Glad to hear the video helped you out and thank you for the suggestion. Videos covering loops are a great idea, we'll add it to the list of planned content!
      Also, we hadn't thought of it before you mentioned it, but Lloyd's top does look a bit like an unbranded startreck uniform 😂

    why do you rise up and rotate as opposed to bend and rotate? what does the rising up do, stack the body?

    I’ve got my test on Tuesday and I’m really struggling with this and my 3 turns. I had hip surgery last spring, so I’m very worried about opening my hips. Would I still be able to pass my test if I had the right idea of what it’s supposed to look like?

    If there’s a scratchy noise in the ice how would U correct that?

      Same, I scrape the ice. Maybe not opening the hip enough, maybe not balanced for rotation… could be so many things… he makes it look easy.
