    In this video, I break down how to do the forward outside 3 turns on the ice. This move can be performed in figure skates, hockey skates, or even rental skates.
    This fundamental figure skating move is an important element to learn on the ice. Mastering this skating move can be quite tricky at first, but following the advice in this figure skating tutorial, you should be able to understand how the movement must be broken down in order to execute it correctly.
    For more details about the figure skating 3 Turn, don't forget to check out my older video covering this move. It might not be as entertaining or produced very well, but the information is still relevant!

    Excellent video, plus I'll give you big points on the comedy. TRLOL. 6:30 I was just coaching my best friend on the three turn and he was doing what you illustrated here, shifting the arms while keeping his shoulders square to the direction of travel. He looked exactly like you comically illustrated. It took some earnest coaching to get him to twist that waist and as soon as he did it two things happened simultaneously: 1: We all could see the difference and cheered him, and 2: He grabbed his back because he could really feel those muscles working when he twisted his waist like that. Once he did it correctly once he could tell the difference. It feels unnatural to skate straight forward while your shoulders are twisted off the line of travel.

    3 turns in my opinion are one of the hardest turns to perfect, mostly to stop rotation. Rockers, counters, brackets don’t give me as much hassle as three turns……underestimated

  • @FantasiaDeep
    @FantasiaDeep 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Thank you for the instructions. Mmh, I tried all evening, but I keep over-rotating, although I check my shoulder as if my life depended on it 😭😭 Maybe something is wrong with the hip? Do I pull up the hip on the side of the free leg?

  • @bellechua2381
    @bellechua2381 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, Lloyd. Is there any hard & fast rule for the hand placement at starting position? I find it easier to get into the check position with stability when I have my right hand in front when doing the right outside 3-turn, and vice-versa on the other side.
    Could you also do a video on inside 3-turns? I am struggling with that for the longest time 😩.

    • @IceCoachOnline
      @IceCoachOnline  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, there isn't a hard and fast rule about it, unless you put your shoulders square when you move your hands instead of rotating the whole torso.
      I thought about teaching it the way you describe in this video but decided against it as I find it makes people rush the entrance edge too much. I personally think it's better to develop a nice even semi-circle with a nice curve in and out.
      How you describe it can result in quite a straight-line type of 3 turns.
      I think there is the inside 3 turn posted on my channel somewhere (it's quite an old video now and probably needs an update too).
      If not, it is definitely on the website/Patreon

  • @goldflashgly513
    @goldflashgly513 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The hardest thing is to check the shoulder. I can’t stop my body from rotating after I switch to the inside edge.

    I'm struggling so hard making a circle on my left outside edge. I try rotating and leaning into the circle more but my circle just does not not happen :< does anyone else have this issue?

  • @ninjagal
    @ninjagal ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My problem is the continuity. Moving from left forward outside 3turn and right forward outside 3turn is hard. I tend to go on my toepick to slow down before I transition to the next one vs when I see others just smoothly going to the next without the disjointed/choppy feeling

    • @IceCoachOnline
      @IceCoachOnline  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a very common mistake when trying to do alternating 3 turns. I think I posted a tutorial about it to my website/Patreon. It's one I would like to post to TH-cam eventually too.
