SOLIDWORKS - Advanced Swept Cut Features

  • Swept cut is a very common feature in SOLIDWORKS. It grants more functionality than the standard extruded cut, like using a solid profile as a cutting tool. With increasing complexity in the path and/or profile, results may not turn out the way that you want. In this video, you’ll see one example of this where the default settings for a tool sweep don’t give the correct result. This can be a critical obstacle to overcome especially when modeling parts that will be produced on multi-axis machines. Check out this video to get a better idea of just how powerful the sweep cut feature is!

    Is there a way to do this with a non cylindrical (or revolved) tool like a more complex cam? Or am I doomed to just have to create a far more complex path?

      if each segment is connected by one end point to another you can use the composite curve tool to combine multiple curves and sketches into one continuous curve.

    thanks for this video! sometimes ive a problem that cant pick a projected curve as a path doing a swept cut , why happen this?? thanksss

      There are a few reasons this might be and they are mostly contextual. For the most direct answer reach out to your VAR's tech support team with an example and they should be able to help you.

    Hello, thank you for this tutorial. It worked for a simple cylinder for me. But when i tried a more complex model (like an oval glass jar), it didn't work! When i tried to clic on the revolving body, it says "Tool body must be convex and not merged with the main body". Any solution please?

      Without being able to see your settings it is hard to say exactly what might be causing that error. It sounds like the geometry of the tool body is something solidworks does not like. For specific help on your situation please contact your VAR's technical support team.

    I have a question that extends beyond this particular operation, but am not sure how to achieve it.
    What if I wanted to rotate the tool body as it travels along the path. The idea behind this; imagine a gear and I want to cut the teeth along the path, but the gear would rotate as it moves along the path. Can this feature (or another one) be used to achieve this? Thanks!!

      Currently there is not a single feature type that is going to be able to accomplish what you are looking for. Creating the right cuts and then patterning that cut is likely the best way forward.

    Temporary axis is not appearing as Direction Vector under the Specify Direction Vector box. I do not know why? (Time 1.36)

    • @goengineer
      @goengineer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The profile needs to be cylindrical in order for temporary axes to show up. You can also check to see if Hide All Types is enabled from the View menu.

      @@goengineer Temporary axis is appearing in cylinder but Specify Direction Vector spin box is not detecting it. If you want to see I can attach my file.
