Brilliant! This is the best idea I’ve seen for retractable landing gear on a workbench. This could be applied on a large kitchen island that requires mobility. Awesome work and creativity!
I think the video shows a very interesting and innovative way of dealing with the problem of having a mobile desk, table, workbench, etc... For my purpose, casters work well, I installed them underneath the legs so that they do not protrude, but everybody has different requirements and having the possibility shown in the video is a good option.
Never ever wear gloves while operating a bench grinder ,The danger is that the tips of the glove can easerly be dragged into the small gap between the wheel and the stop along with your hand and that tends to be a very nasty accident requiring an ambulance
Thanks for the vital advice! I will listen to any criticism about protection and safety! It is important for me to know how to protect myself while working! Thank you!
@menscraft7985 if your Gloves get trapped in machinery you can loose a finger that's not safety I doubt if you use many power tools that will have a cutting blade
I bought 4 x hd locking casters from ebay and installed them on my 2.4m x 1.2m lure-making bench. I move it anywhere on the verandah to get in or or out of a breeze. The video was awesome but required days to manufacture.
Very cool brother. As an engineer, I can always appreciate videos like this. Sure, I can see how to change things about, make it simpler or easier to build. But I will never knock someone else's ideas. Very well done mate.
Honestly I was second guessing you in the beginning but now. 👏👏👏 Bravo! A fantastic project. Could you weld a bit onto the crank mechanism so that you can use your drill to flip the wheels quickly. It'll save a lot of time in the long run if you use the table a lot. Subscribed
Thank you for appreciating my work! I agree that your idea of using a drill is very useful, but I have a small problem with the drill, it’s almost broken, when I have the opportunity I’ll update it and then I’ll use your idea! Thanks again!
I also have these, and I can also install them in 10 minutes, but it really annoys me that they protrude beyond the dimensions of the table, and I constantly cling to them with my shoes
Yep! Meanwhile I moved fifteen work benches and associated mechanised equipment, rearranging the workshop layout with five minutes of modification to a large bag trolley. 🤷🏻
Very nice video. Good details all around. I too have a work shed with wood floors. I installed oak hardwood pads underneath, and it slides with slight effort. I guess I’ll have to find a screw jack somewhere.
Normally I don't watch vids that don't tell what it's about in the title, but I had some time to kill. I've been thinking along the lines of something like this for my welding table (almost 300 lbs.) I hadn't thought about using an old scissor jack to work it. Very good 👍👍👍
Years and years ago I bought a kit exactly like that from a local lumber yard called Cramers Lumber in Pennargyl Pa. You could buy just the kit or buy it with the lumber to make work tables and work benches but the lumber in their kits was all scrap Spruce that really hard crap like some of the cheaper Hemlock. They had to make and cut the boards and gave ya instructions with their kit. There was a huge blow up with em when I built my new home I ordered the lumber be Pressure Treated lumber because I was only going to build and use one work bench outside. They delivered the kit with the cheap stuff and I really lost a gasket. Turns out they removed both kits from my bill because I not only bought only bought lumber for my house from em I was a builder and when stuff out that way I always used them 4 lumber. 35 years later I still have both work benches. That is nice touch being able to move the work bench to clean up under it is a really nice touch..
Thank you for the video! WOW you do great work! However; I think you could have saved a lot of time and effort by removing the jack and install a straight rod that will lock into place when pushed by hand Down along the connecting rod and then lift the table by pulling it up with your hand to a position parallel to the leg. With a little lock mechanism there as well. Sorry; it just don't take the power of a screw jack to lift even a heavier table. Great work though!
I have already made a manual lever, but it has its drawbacks, I didn’t like how it works, perhaps I didn’t make the best version of a manual lever, but overall I am completely satisfied with my version with a jack. The price of a Chinese jack in our country is approximately 10-15 dollars.
Call me crazy but I'd have done something dumb like gone to Lowe's and bought 4 locking casters and screwed them to the bottom of something I bought at Goodwill. I guess what I mean is when, oh when will I learn and stop watching these things?
.mmm! How many hours to build? Did U do planning & design on a drag board,, ? If U made it up as U went along( knowing which materials you had in stock + th ball bearings yud hav to buy) U are a genius😊😊

This was a little deceiving because it wasn't the same as the illustration in the thumbnail. but it turned out to be a roll around saw table and a built in brake.
The wheels are not stable and reliable, my last table was on wheels, this is not practical, in my opinion the table should be on the floor, this is stable
@@menscraft7985 Really? mate I worked in the building industry for over 40 years & as creative your idea is, it may suit you. I've worked on self assembling scaffolding that goes up & above 20 + metres that use self locking wheels never had an issue with it being unstable & for a simple work bench caster lock wheels is no different. Load your bench up with 20 to 50 kilograms of work tools & see how practical it is trying to go from stationary to mobile. All if not most benches are made stationary for stability the concept of making them mobile are for garage mechanics, auto repairs etc..
Landing gear for workbenches :) I have a very heavy workbench (about 500 kilos plus all the tools in and on it). If I just put wheels on it, the weight of the table will press the wheels flat. Retractable "landing gear" would actually work well for my workbench.
Thank you for appreciating my work! I had to complicate the crossbars, because I wanted to make a removable version, nothing better and simpler came to my mind) If you have an idea on how to do this better, you can share with me
I guess the last woodworker to make an actual piece of furniture for the entertainment of others was Norm Abrams. Everybody on Y.T. seem to just make things for their workshop.
I don’t agree, the wheels are not reliable and stable; We haven’t yet come up with a better option than a table right on the floor! I don't like the option with adjustable wheels because the wheels protrude beyond the table.
I like this idea but think it would only be worth it for very heavy loads. There are simpler solutions for light loads. It should be fail-safe, in that once the wheels are fully extended, if the linkage is compromised, the load doesn’t collapse to the floor. This can be accomplished by having the rotation go over-center, before hitting an adequate physical stop, preventing further rotation.
Definitely a great idea and well done BUT please give us a hint as to what the heck you are doing!!! A short clip of the finished project so we know if it’s something that we might want to do…or even watch.
You are absolutely right! I'm embarrassed, but I only had one DeWalt cordless drill for this project and it was already almost broken, so this table was too heavy for it (but as soon as I can, I will buy a new cordless drill and then take the advice! Thanks!
Hello folks, I found an old car jack in my garage and decided to put it to good use. What do you think about this idea?
Brilliant! This is the best idea I’ve seen for retractable landing gear on a workbench. This could be applied on a large kitchen island that requires mobility. Awesome work and creativity!
Pretty good work and a cool idea. But why don’t you use a cordless drill to drive the car jack?
Briljant and well done

Nice idea and craftsmanship..
But easier to buy a table with locking casters..
My thoughts exactly ! 👍

Nifty idea and it works quite well too. 10/10
Thank you for your high rating! I was glad to try for you
Гарна ідея та реалізація , дуже сподобалося 🦾🦾👍👍🔥🔥💛💛💙💙
素晴らしいアイディアと、それを実際に作れる技術に👍

Great idea!
I'll try to do it for my table saw.
Thank you very much.🇧🇷
Thank you for appreciating my work! I'm glad my idea was useful to you
très bon travail! merci!
Time lapse construction projects are hugely satisfying to watch, thank you!
Interesting idea and execution. There are some very clever ways to do that and yours looks pretty good... Thumbs Up!
Tis crafty indeed!😊

I mostly walk away from most of these vids before they finish. This one was very useable and well thought out. Big thumbs up.
Thank you for appreciating my work! I was glad to be useful to such a sophisticated viewer like you!
Very ingenious.
Well done 👍🫡

I'm glad that I jumped to see the end result before I didn't waste my time on the how to.
Yep
For me, the main thing is that you saw the result, you don’t have to watch the manufacturing process) You’re a fast guy, so just rewind to the end
Thank you these videos are to long for what they are
Don't require all the blow by blow detail! Nice job however 😊😊
This is an Ideal I have had for some time but did not execute the way you did. Looks great

Pretty cool, you can turn the jack with your cordless, make up and down quick and easy
Excellent workmanship!
Toll gemacht, einwandfreie Arbeit. Daumen hoch !!!
Vielen Dank für die Wertschätzung meiner Arbeit!
😂. I just bought 4 spring loaded adjustable wheels that slide up. Took 10 minutes to install 😅
Same here. 20 dollars for 4 caster wheels. That was 10 years ago and it still works perfectly.
Inoltre non hai tutto il meccanismo sotto al tavolo che ti impedisce di mettere dei ripiani o dei cassetti
I also have these, and I can also install them in 10 minutes, but it really annoys me that they protrude beyond the dimensions of the table, and I constantly cling to them with my shoes
In the future, I will put drawers in the desk and a jack will not interfere with this, but tripping over protruding wheels is not my taste)))
@menscraft7985 I set the wheels about 4" underneath...Small 2" heavy duty casters
Yep! Meanwhile I moved fifteen work benches and associated mechanised equipment, rearranging the workshop layout with five minutes of modification to a large bag trolley. 🤷🏻

That is so cool. How much does that cost?
Nope, I don't want to repeat that, especially as it is not the same thing as the thumbnail.
Shopsmith did this years ago with a simple cam on two sets of wheels. A bit too elaborate for me but some may get some use out of it.
Cool invention.
I won’t have a need for this in my shop but I liked watching the techniques and your approach to solving the problem.
Thank you for your feedback about my work! I agree we are all different and not everyone needs this particular idea!

Yes but how many has all the tools to make it

Yes, when editing the video in one mament it seemed the same thing))) but I knew the result)
Wow! It is probably easy for you to build a vehicle
Hahaha!

They will, never get that on the moon 🤔 and what happens if you get a puncture.? Huge idea 👍
nice!
I love it when people try to cover the welding arc on video like my tv emits uv light
Like the idea but why not use your drill with a bit that fits the jack would be faster than by hand
Nice project .you could just buy the wheels with breaks on them 😂
This was a little deceiving because it wasn't the same as the illustration in the thumbnail. but it turned out to be a roll around saw table and a built in brake.
Exactly. Not worth watching for me. No Thanks
Creative, however 4 heavy caster wheels with foot locks on each caster would've done the job in way less time & more practical.
True that!😂

Clever design and good craftsmanship but not sure why all of that needs gone through. I mean how often is a person having to move a work bench.
fix four caster wheels with brakes, much easier

Kick down wheels do exactly the same for probably a lot less money and effort! Clever though!
