    Excellent Video! Thank you for taking the time to make it. It's not easy to make an instructional video. I really like how quick you work, but you take the time to explain each step. Very well done.

    Great video! when I was making a new configuration, I forgot to change the dimension for a length in my part to "this configuration". That would explain why the length would change for all configurations, even though they weren't derived configurations! Thanks!

    Thanks, man, that helped allot....I was doing the same thing Andrew was. I do prefer working out the formulas as global variables, ahead of time, over changing the dimensions directly, but I can see how this would come in real handy when altering models that have already been built.

    I used this for a SolidWorks class I was taking. It really made things easy. The only thing I changed is instead of centering the posts on the top, I dimensioned them off the side so I could do a two-post-wide configuration.

    Thanks for the video, it is really helpful! There's one more thing I was interested in... How can I make my part of different aspects changing configuration? E.g. taking a LEGO piece and making it red, blue or green by using 3 configuration on the same part. I have already seen some commands for the colors, but I'm not able to crack it up!

    Very good video. I like the use of the lego concept when explaining this process. Was the reason to start your pattern from the end 3.90 (D2) for purpose of the lesson? Is it feasible in SW to establish the location from the center and drive the pattern? I'm new to SW with a lot of years in Pro/E Creo.

    • @ardroniouskath
      @ardroniouskath 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I suppose you could, although it would be a bit more complicated than necessary. Starting at the end lets you fix that dimension. Since LEGO bricks are all standardized (so they all fit together), it would make sense to fix the end dimension -- if only so you can copy it to the other side. Also, since LEGO only has one brick with an odd number of studs (3), finding the center on most pieces between two studs is really more work than it's worth. Hope that helps!

    When you were suppressing the tabs on the bottom using "configure feature", would it be possible to only suppress the "Boss-Extrude3" operation in order to remove all of them from the model? In this example you suppressed the LPattern first and then the Extrude.

    I'm trying to add a configuration to a part and then change a sketch in it to modify its revolve, but every time I try to do so the part is getting modified in all the configurations.. Is there any way to change a SKETCH and its 3D features without compromising all the related configurations?
    I know I can vary a feature just in "This Configuration", but what about sketches?
    Thanks a lot in advance (sorry if I'm being unclear, I'm not a native speaker!)

    You should do your shell after the studs. That will give you the inside without having to create another sketch.

    • @ryanweber153
      @ryanweber153  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment. I reviewed your suggestion, but I don't see how that would help. When I create the stud (Boss-Extrude2) then shell, part of the inside of the stud will be removed which can be seen in a section view. Then I still have to create Sketch3 to create the stud on the inside. In summary, I'm not smart enough to successfully complete the process you suggested.

    Thank you for a thorough explanation and a great video! But could you please mention how to deal with skipping Instances in different configurations? I do not see how to cope with those ((( Look, I have two configurations with arrays of holes, some of them should be omitted in each configuration, like: 1) oo..o.o 2) o..o..o Where "o" is a hole, and "." is a skipped hole. Total nomber of them = 7 (as an example). How can I configure the instances to be skipped?

    • @ryanweber153
      @ryanweber153  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment. I'm sure you already know this, but I do not see a way to skip an instance in one configuration and than skip a different instance in another configuration. It appears the skip instances part of a pattern cannot be applied to specific configurations. You could always submit this as an Enhancement Request to SolidWorks and if enough people vote for it then they might include it as an update to the software.

    After adding a configuration in my assembly by clicking "add configuration" naming it, going into the feature manager design tree, finding the feature that needs to be altered (in this case a pattern), making the appropriate change and saving, I double check my work. However when double clicking the other configurations in the Configuration Manager, both have changed. Any thoughts??
    One thing, the "modify" box with the option to apply to "this, all, or specific" configurations does not come up..
    Any assist would be terrific!

    • @ryanweber153
      @ryanweber153  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment Heidi. I tried this on an assembly and it worked if I edited the pattern from the Design Tree, but when I clicked on the number representing the pattern in the Graphics area I did not get the icon to specify which configuration to apply the change to. Also, when you model the part if you use Hole Wizard, Linear Pattern Feature, or Circular Pattern Feature, than when you assemble the components you want to use a Pattern Driven Component Pattern and SolidWorks will reference the part model to automatically populate the number of instances, distance, etc. Although, a Pattern Driven Component Pattern does not work if you use a Linear Pattern or Circular Pattern in the Sketch.

    Frustrating that you have to have dimensions driven by equations. I dont see what the difference is behind making a dimension equation driven and just going into the sketch and editing it manually. Also, if I want to vary a part by, say, a feature like wrapped text, there seems to be no way to vary the configurations to reflect this. All the configurations are updated with the change in text

    Not an E, but the Greek letter Sigma.

    This is not an "E"...
    It is the capital Greek letter Sigma used as a symbol which stands for the Sum of discrete values.
    For some reason, Solidworks uses it as a formula indicator...
    In any case, it has nothing to do with "E" !!!
