Hey there, great stand. How do you handle the weight? I mean a X-Wing Fighter is lighter than the Falcon. How come they won´t fall over? Is the Acrylic that heavy so you don´t have to worry about the weight? I wanna put my vintage Space Police SP-Striker (6781) kind of angled on a stand.
Hi, the biggest ship I've made one for is the X wing (minifig scale). It holds up no problem as long as you mount it at the canter of gravity. Of course it's just 1 2x4 plate connecting. For a bigger ship, you could try a bigger base, fatter rod, and maybe glue a sacrificial 4x6 plate to the top. Just ideas. Or maybe try 2 stands. Hope you find a solution that works for you. Good luck!
I just used a hand hack saw, which does have relatively small teeth. It's able to cut metal, as opposed to the big toothed wood saws. Good question. Glad to have you stop by.
This is amazing! Thanks a lot for sharing. I just found out that ordering stands from Wickedbrick was double the cost of what i expected due to insane shipping costs… so this is the perfect option! Have you also tried this method on bigger ships, like the razor crest or that millennium falcon u have in the video?
I'm glad you're going to give this DIY a shot. I have a few of these stands, but the biggest model I have put on them is the non UCS X wing and Y wings. To do the millennium falcon, it would probably require either a few stands, or using a bigger base plate, bigger lego plate, and bigger rod for stability. Could be fun to try though. Let me how it goes for you. Thanks for stopping by.
I just tested it out with my non UCS Millenium Falcon. I put some 2x8 bricks on the bottom of the ship so the weight of the ship wouldn't push the floor plates up. Using a shorter stand with a tilt worked! The falcon looks awesome on a nice tilt. But it's not super stable since my stand uses a 2x4 plate on top and the ship is big and heavy...I think if you glue a bigger plate to the top, it could work pretty good. A bigger clear base plate would be better too. Anyway, it works, but not super secure. Take care.
Hi , Could you recommend a type of saw to use ? An Amazon link would be appreciated ! Another question if you don't mind -- any suggestions for a stand that has more than one hardpoints/connectors ? Either for a better support, or a "chase scene" , or an interactive scene in mid-air . Either DIY or pre built suggestions would be welcome . I'm looking to get some better stands for both Lego and Eaglemoss starships (the stands they come with kill a lot of the 'immersion") . Thanks !
I used a hack saw for cutting the rods. It's not the fastest, but it was functional. I may have sanded any irreuglarities down. As for slick stylized stands....hmmm, the only thing I can think of is to ditch the stand and suspend your ships with clear fishing line. Would work under a shelf or in a book case type of thing. Of course the ceiling is an option but more of a commitment. Just a fun idea. Thanks for stopping by!
Wow, this is amazing!! Thank you for this video!!
The stands look great! Hope you have a great birthday week, Mark!
Thanks, it's just hobby stuff here. What a hoot.

What kind of saw did you use? I would think you'd need one with very small teeth, like a coping saw. Thanks for the ideas!

What diameter rods did you use?
Half inch diameter rods. They were 12 inches long.
