    Im getting a gnarly creak just riding over a speed bump. I installed new forks recently and have pinpointed that and got it figured out. Hit the jumps, and now ive got a loud creak coming from the mid to back end. Think its from the dirt getting in there. It's been a dry summer. Going to do a complete run thru of the bike

    I played hunt the creak on my bike a few weeks back, it was defo coming from the drivetrain. After cleaning and regreasing bottom bracket, crank and chain ring, pedals, cassette and free hub I eventually discovered it was coming from my lower jockey wheel. Gave the bearing a good ol flush out with GT85, regreased and now my bike runs quiet as a mouse 👊

    I had a really annoying creak on my trek fuel ex 8 in the headtube but only when I stand up and peddle pulling on the bars, i did all the usual cheaks pushing on a peddle off the bike because is normally the rear suspention not a sqweak! So I took my forks off cleaned the bearing cups and reassembled with anti sease and still happening! So I cheaked every bolt on my rear suspention and yes a main pivot bolt was dry and seased coursing the vibration to travel all the way up the down tube to the headset, now I can ride happy 😊

    My most annoying creak was on my current Boardman FS Team. Mine is the 2014/2015 model. My original cranks just would not stay quite. They creaked all the time. I actually lost count how many times I had the cranks off and the bottom bracket out. I greased, cleaned and re-greased them. They just kept creaking. The original cranks and BB were made by FSA. I don't remember the model but they did have 3 bolts holding the rings on. The only way I found to shut up the cranks and BB was to fit Shimano Deore cranks and Shimano BB. That cured the creaking. Only to find as I went for smaller rings there wasn't enough adjustment in the high direct mount front mech.

    I got creaks coming from my brand new time pedals...both Mx and cc varients...can't be the bearings, got rid of the dirt, bolts titled plenty and greased + pre cleaned.
    It sounds bearing related however, as it happens on both and they're basically new...my belief is that it's coming from the clips themselves...possibly as I'm using worn cleats...not much I can do short of replacing the cleats...I just put up with it 😊

    Least common place people check: bike post, and bike seat connection on the rails. I grease the rails gently for zero creaks.
    Sometimes the seat gets wobbly inside, and you can't do anything, but I know what creaks, because I lubricate everything that can make that noise. Of course within limits of safety.
    Also, use ears, and isolate where it could be.
    Remove bike seat and ride without it, does it creak? Remove bike post, creaks? And so on.
    Also stem that holds the bars can creak a lot. I lubricate using STP auto grease (all purpose), that cost like 4 bucks for a pound/half a kilo.
    No point spending more on specialized bike grease.
    It lubes everything from bearings, rear hubs, pedals, pedal screws, bottom bracket thread, bottom bracket hole, bar connections, seat post.

  • @Lestat1795
    @Lestat1795 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Seatpost and seatpost clamp is the major problem area for me. Dirt gets in there an it creaks and the noise travels trough the whole frame. Tough to locate. My solution was a new clamp without quick release( a dirty quick release is really loud and the torque is never perfect anyway) A simple clamp with a bolt is torqued perfectly and less prone to get noisy when dusty. Even better to cover the slot in the seat stay to avoid dust and dirt between post and seat stay.

    I had rattling noises coming from my 2018 Canyon Torque. I couldn't get it away so I sold the frame.
    The problem were bushings at the yoke that were made too small - even after visiting the Canyon headquarter they couldn't get it away/didn't want to help me... this even is a known issue and Canyon won't do a thing about it. What a shame!

    I just bought my first bike about 2 months ago at the age of 35. The first one I received the front wheel bearing always bad out of the box. So I exchanged. Took them a month to get me another and I have been riding for about 3 weeks to a month now and very much enjoying. New issue is I had a very loud squeal come from the pedal area but it stopped so I left it alone. Yesterday while peddling up a very small incline I had a pop like I just changed gears and since then any time I stand and pedal I have a pop and a creak coming from the pedal area again. The bike is only a month old and it hasn’t seen off road yet and it is carbon fiber. Anything info would help. I don’t want to go another month without a bike but I’m not sure where to go from here without exchanging it again. Thanks.

    The theme reminds me of many GT Zaskar LE bikes where the bottom bracket always creaked because they were not properly welded in the USA. The mechanics always took the bikes to the back of the shop where nobody saw anything, then the seat post was pulled out and oil was poured into the seat tube. So the creaking was done for a few months. The Avalanche models, welded in Taiwan, did not know the problem.

    I'm trying to silence a creek in a chromoly 98 fisher hoo ko e koo. It has been this way for a few years, I just learned to live with it. I had the bottom bracket removed, re-greased and re-torqued by a reputable local shop a couple years ago. It ONLY makes noise after about 40 minutes into my ride. Dead silent before that. Does not seem dependent on ambient temperature. It only creeks on hard pedaling and only on the down stroke of my right foot. I am slowly going through the trouble spots. New shimano SPD pedals first since I needed new ones anyways. I have a chainring bolt spanner wrench incoming. I will remove and thoroughly clean, re-torque and loc-tite the bolts. Hopefully I don't need to remove the cranks.

    I had an annoying creaking sound for several months. It always sounded like it was coming from my bottom bracket area while pedaling under a load. It was driving me crazy. I disassembled my sprocket and greased all the screws, I replaced my pedals, I replaced my chain, I replaced my cable router at the bottom of my bottom bracket, and even eventually replaced my bottom bracket. But each time I independently replaced a component the damn creak was still there! After all that I finally found the culprit. It was a loose rear derailleur hanger! Upon inspection I noticed that it was barely finger tight. I took it off, cleaned and greased it and put it back on. The creaking noise was finally gone.

    Got a new creak goin' and it's ruining my day to day existence, constantly thinking about it! It mostly occurs on preloading before jumps, or railing through berms when heavy weight and speed is applied. Strangely, the bike is mostly quiet during heavy torque on climbs. Driving me nuts. Could it be headset related? I already cleaned out headset bearings and bottom bracket area. I didn't do anything to the crown race, though. It looks like in this video, he uses a lot of grease on the crown race (1:45). Maybe I should try that...Ugh, I am at a loss.

Strangely, I never had a problem with the original spring and always thought it was great out on the trail. I decided to take their advice and see if I noticed any difference so I gave a new spring a try and it was fine for a few months but then that horrid clicking-creaking! I put the old spring back on and it's been silent ever since.

    Hey guys, I have a very weird creeking/vibration/rattling on the front brake.
    I tried cleaning the pistons with some oil (like your tutorials recommended).
    Whenever I go fast, it starts making a vibration sound, and when I pull the front brake very slightly the noise goes away.
    Any help is appreciated!

    • @mopedvieh
      @mopedvieh 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could be resonance frequency of the whole bike system. The whole frame and bike vibrates and a certain speed the resonance it met. There isn't really a satisfying solution for that.
      There are some dampings that can be placed beneath the disc...
      An easy fix might be to check whether all bolts are tightened.

    Are typical listed bike torque specs for dry or lubricated fasteners?

    • @MrLiipasin
      @MrLiipasin 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. I would quess torque specs are dry values and adding grease will mess them up. But maybe nothing to worrt about..

    • @mopedvieh
      @mopedvieh 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In general mechanical engineering they are always given for greased fasteners.
      For the components it does not matter cos torque is torque. But a greased fastener reaches the torque after some more thread pitches are screwed in. That does of course provide more safety.

    My little one’s 20” bike started making noises coming around the rear derailleur when he pedals to a certain position after he fell on the bike path. I can’t see any visible damage and I am still unable to find out exactly where. The derailleur looks clean. But it seems to be shaking a bit on the lower gear. #askgmbntech. Any suggestions please.

    • @Freedom-Free
      @Freedom-Free 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Any physical impact on rear derailleur such as fall down during ride or someone hitting from behind or bike collapse cause this knocking problem from Cassette cogs and chain.
      *Rear derailleur hanger is bending..
      *Shifting indexing is out of line..
      *Guided pulley and tension pulley is bending/out of line
      *Rear derailleur housing/body is bending/out of degree shifting angle..
