    3:05 - "It's not running too smooth"

    The hammer sending the bearing flying across the floor moments before probably didn't help, either. :-)

    This may be an 8 year old video, and my headset setup was a little different (Trek Knock Block), but you helped me eliminate the creaking and gave me the confidence to do this on my own! Thank you!

    I think the first thing to try is grease the handlebar clamp screws, then if the problem prevails, grease the stem clamp screws. Then if the problem prevails, remove the handlebars and apply carbon fiber grease to the clamp.

    Don't forget to support the fork while taking the top cap and stem off, It sucks when your fork falls on the ground and bearings go everywhere!

    Could you do a video on how to change disc rotors size on your bike?, for example from 180mm to 200mm. Which adapters to choose?, How to fit them?, Which rotor sizes you can use without damaging the frame or fork? and so on...

    Why do we use grease on the crown race, and the cups for the cartridge bearings? The internally greased bearings shouldn’t need any grease on the outside right?

    How do you calibrate your torque wrench? Is it just a case of buying the best you can afford and hoping it stays true? I ask because having served in the RAF I know how often wrenches go out of true.

    What is "Carbon Specific Grease" 4:20? I googled Carbon grease and its the opposite of grease, it increases friction (used for seat Posts)

    • @gmbn
      @gmbn  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +okami some greases are manufactured differently and it'll stop any breakdown or corrosion to the fibres, some frame manufacturers recomend it and if you don't use it you may void your warranty!

    Its much esaier to take off the brake lever then the calipers. less bolts, less re-adjusting. And you can service those bearings, too, just pop out the dust covers clean it with some disc cleaner and re-grase it.

    I understand the benefits of grease on the axles but I don't grease my front axle because grease gets on the inside of the pinch clamps. I would assume that the pinch clamps are less effective if they have been greased. What's your take??

    • @gmbn
      @gmbn  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Zimmerman Landscape It shouldn't make much of a difference as the pinch bolts are tightening down on the axle. Scott

    • @zimmermanlandscape9287
      @zimmermanlandscape9287 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Global Mountain Bike Network Ok. Thank you. I have had trouble the front wheel not staying straight in relation to the bars during a nonviolent tip-over on a dirt bike and not greasing the front axle seems to have helped in that circumstance. Apparently the light weight of a bicycle prevents this problem occurring. Take care

    what do you do when you have a stripped stem bolt? where it clamps to the fork

    • @williamkeys5701
      @williamkeys5701 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Rohin Bakrania If it's stripped as in the bolt is rounded and your Allen key won't bit, you could try Easy outs. There is nothing easy about them, but they will bite into the bolt so you can remove it. Then you will need to replace with a new bolt. And make sure you are using quality tools so that you don't round out your bolts again.If by stripped, you mean the threads in the stem are damaged and the bolt won't stay tight, the best solution is to replace the stem. If you are really attached to the stem, you could have a machine shop install a heliacoil to repair it, but the cost could be more than a new stem.

    • @rohinbakrania347
      @rohinbakrania347 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      a very common mystery creek (sounds alot like its the crank) is the axles front and rear, cleaning them with degreaser/alkohol, grease axles and contactpoints, hold the wheels upward when tightening axles to spec, worth a try.

      Kinda same but I found the problem, pivot bearings of rear dropout are dead on my bike. I'll change all bearings. When you pedal you pull the drive side of your rear dropout to front and you maybe have a dead bearing inside of it just take a look ;)

    I’m enjoying the bike so far th-cam.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA My only real complaints are the brakes and the pedals. I feel like a bike designed for bigger people should have much larger pedals and more heavy duty brakes. I’ve only gotten two really good rides out of it, minimal downhill action, and the brakes feel like they’re already going out. A larger person has more momentum, so I think this wasn’t thought through very well. Also, I wear size 13-14 wide shoes. My feet cramp up on these pedals that are clearly made for smaller feet. Since I’m not a pro rider (and I don’t think many are who purchase this bike) I don’t think that the straps on the pedal are necessary at all. None of this takes away from the enjoyment I get from riding, however. I’ll just head to a bike shop to improve on a few things.
