- Fix your dodgy electric window / mirror switch by cleaning the electrical contacts within the switch. Shown on Vauxhall / Opel Vectra C (2002-2008), but principal can be applied to other models - if your switch unit is getting power but the is difficult to operate (e.g. you have to press hard on the buttons, or some buttons work and some don't), then this is likely to be the problem and the fix! :)

Cheers for the fix. Just did my switch in 20 minutes. Only the drivers window switch had failed, so put up with it for about eight weeks. Now good as gold.

Didn't want to comment or like untill i tried it out. Because it was rainin here my windows were down and i had to black bag them untill i tried your advice with the cleaning the buttons, so i tried this and it worked and i am so happy glad my windows are now closed. Just wanted to say a BIG THANKYOU FOR THE VIDEO. And anyone else who hasn't tried it and may have the same problem id definitely recommend

Having fixed the non-functional cruise control stalk in my Vectra by similar cleaning last year, I'd noticed my window switch going the same way. Found this video quickly, which meant I was ahead of the game for easy removal and disassembly. Problem solved in minutes!
One point - the switching operation relies on the conductive pads on the rubber part making the connection on the traces on the circuit board, so it definitely makes sense to clean both. A great opportunity to clean all the finger grime off the switch surface, too - much easier when out of the car.

Was Getting so fed up looking for a video that linked to an Astra h where the window (drivers side) opens as normal but wouldn't close at all. I looked at the vids that changed switches, tested the switches with either paper clips or wire and thought bloody hell! Anyway, so glad I came across your video, slightly different controller but with a little bit of head scratching eventually managed to get into the inner workings. Had some pure alcohol used for defrosting frozen windows etc and cleaned the contacts hoping that that will cure the problem, reassembled controller, fitted it back in door and pressed UP, The weight of the world instantly lifted from my shoulders as the window started to raise up into the closed position. open, close, open , close. Works a treat now and saved a few Bob as well. Thank you so much

Thank you for this excellent video. Good quality and shows all of the process very well. Helped me fix my windows and mirrors today. I also cleaned the rubber gasket and the contacts on it, as well as the entire circuit board on both sides as it was very dirty. I would only recommend using electrical contact cleaner just as you have done. Great job. Thanks again!

Just done both sides in less than 10 mins. Used 80% alcohol based hand sanitiser of all things, made sure no residue left and perfect on first attempt. Thanks for sharing this simple repair. Saved me a trip to the scrappers.

In my car, some buttons were not working correctly. I needed to press them really hard for them to work. Now they are working perfectly! Thanks, man!
I removed the buttons with a plastic trim removal tool and it worked out great. No damage to the buttons or trim whatsoever.

I followed your instructions on the video and cleaned my switch, it only took about 10 minutes to complete. The hardest thing was actually getting the unit back in the door as it took a little more force than I thought but all is back and working.

Followed your example and it worked a treat. My drivers door I was begining to push hard - now thats sorted. Passenger door the down was not working, but using the same principles, both windows operates perfectly!

Followed the video, brought the Electrical Contact Cleaner from Halfords (£4).
Job done , followed the same process with all the other door switches.
Basically the same way remove the console from the door .
Remove the electrics, no clip this time just a bit of pulling.
Single switches passenger/ rear just open them up via the 2 clips either side.
Clean as before and replace. Job done £4 .!!!!

Omg thank a million i've tried soo many videos to fix the windows and people said it was because the battery had been changed and how to reset.
This worked brilliant. It fixed my central locking which has been broken for 5 years and i was only trying to fix the windows 😀!!

Thanks for this. I had removed and opened the box on my Opel Tigra but having removed the rubbery thing the contacts looked impeccable -- like if I were to wipe (impregnated) buds on them, I'd be dirtying them. So I just put it back together and tried another fix I'd read up -- disconnecting the battery. No joy. I come in and continue the search. You explicitly talk about those apparently clean contacts. Brilliant! So I try that. Boo-hoo. No joy. The only switches that work are the door lock and ..boot. The roof switch makes an alarm, but the windows and mirror controls, nada. Advice most welcome!
I would check fuses if you haven't already, & then wiring going to the switch unit.
Thank you for this! I got a 2nd hand unit in the breakers and it worked. But I cleaned the one I took out lastnight with nail polish remover and all electrics now work, back and front and mirrors👍

Thanks for sharing, was struggling with my widows, i used WD-40 instead of the contact cleaner and the result were amazing and would suggest WD-40 as an alternative.

Hi. Thank you so much. I have a Vectra. My windows on the drivers side would only go up/down with excessive force. Followed this step by step and they're as good as new. The cleaner cost me £4 from Halfords.

I am now a happy bunny with my windows working perfectly. A very good video. I made a schoolboy error, forgetting to put the two retaining screws back, having worked on the unit indoors and then putting it back instu I returned and removed the unit and promptly dropped one of the screws. Wal listen to what you are told. :)

Great fix on the front drivers switch unit. Although doing the same on both rear switches, both still having no effect on window function. Any other tips or ideas?

Great video and easy to follow instructions. Any ideas on fixes for interior courtesy lights? Glove box light working but none of the reading lights front or back...fuses looks fine... any ideas greatly appreciated!! Thanks for the video!
Afraid I don't have any specific ideas on that, I would check the bulbs and the connections at the light units, otherwise I guess it might be related to the body control module - think that's what controls the delayed switch off etc... Good luck

Any tips on how to make the boot look button operate in wet wether? It's fine in the dry but in the winter months the only way of opening the boot is slamming the button really hard with the palm of you hand.
No I'm afraid I can't help u at the moment with the boot problem, but I will video and upload the fix if I come across one.

Thanks fore you share this video, this solution works for my too..,the troubleshot was no funktion of mirrors , windows in front doors and rear doors from the switch in front door , but the windows of rear doors works from
Switch in rear doors , its have much thinking how the troubleshot was, all from fuses, module in window motor, i have print out a wiring of the system , but i start with clean all the switching and connection, and testet one bye one ,and successful ending..👍👍

Yeah I’ve got the same problem thr connector is completely different and when you try to disconnect it it won’t disconnect. There are NO videos online for passenger removal and it’s impossible to remove the wiring loom and completely different set up.
