Harry Shum jr is in the end credits scenes setting up for a larger part in the 2nd movie IF it ever happens
the way you're hyping everyone up in the movie is actually the best 😂🙌
They deserve to be hyped up!
The reason why the mom ended up giving her approval is shown during the mahjong scene. Throughout the movie, you saw the mom talking about how she had to sacrifice her career for the family. Family before ones passion. During the mahjong scene, Rachel tells the mom that Nick proposed to her. Rachel basically won. But then Rachel tells the mom she rejected him. Which is why the mom replies "only a fool gives up a winning hand".
They then go on to continue playing the game. That last piece Rachel puts back onto the table, which is then picked up by mom was a piece Rachel knew the mom needed to win....so when she showed mom her hand, mom realized Rachel purposely sacrificed that piece to let her win. Basically the mahjong game they just played was sort of a symbol of what Rachel just did to ensure Nick's happiness and showed mom Rachel's true character and her resolve that regardless of her feelings for Nick, she was willing to sacrifice it all to keep his family intact.
I never seen a full film reaction for this movie. I gotta admit some of your reactions had me crackin the fuck up. LMAO. "GODDESS... ok ima stop now."
Rachel didn't win the Mahjong match. She let Eleanor win with her piece. Figuratively she let her have her son back by saying no to his proposal.

The second movie is maybe not going to be all about the wedding. The first book didnt end in the happy way the first movie ended 😅 but I guess they can change that from the books.
The second movie is hopefully going to be more about Astrid, how she is connected to the character played by Harry Shum Jr., her past relationships, why she married the guy who cheated on her, his ensecurities and why he started having an affair etc. Those are all things left out of the first movie, but very focused on in the first and second book. Kind of sad they didnt include them, because I loved Astrids character development in the books, so I'm hoping for a good sequel 🤞

Harry Shum Jr is only in the post credit scene for this film but if the second movie follows the second book ( it’s based on a book trilogy) Harry’s character Charlie will be a fairly large character in the film.

Ahhh the mahjong scene is my favorite because there's just a lot of symbolism (Rachel getting a winning hand but giving it up so Eleanor would win; the tiles from their hands; like even with the way they are sitting has some symbolism XD) and I'm glad to see your reaction to this movie! :) Looking forward to more of your reactions! I loved that his mother came around and let him and Rachel be happy cause Rachel does make him happy and she didn’t want her son hating her she might not still fully accept it but one day she just might. I also loved Rachel and Peik friendship throughout the entire movie. Great reaction Joe ❗️

Harry Shum Jr. is in the movie for a very short mid-credit scene, but his character, Charlie, and Astrid will be a focus in the sequels. There was going to be more of Harry's character in this film, but they cut back a lot because they didn't want it to look like Astrid was leaving her husband for him.

The scene where the helicopter is on the rock is filmed at Langkawi Island in Malaysia. Actually most of this movie is in Malaysia including Nick’s grandmother’s house.
Tan Hua flowers (Bunga Wijaya Kusuma) rarely blooms. They usually bloom around once a year. That's why it's a pretty big deal.

Did you watch the mid credit scene? That's where Harry Shum Jr appears in the film. I was so disappointed that they didn't include him in the actual film.
edit: Ah! I found it. I can't wait. I've looked up that we are likely to get the sequel in 2021 which is too far away!
The 2nd film is called China Rich Girlfriend, and it focuses on Astrid and the actress character.

Very late to this video, but idk if you’ve found this out or if anyone else has told you, but Harry’s character and Astrid used to date each other when they were younger and after she splits from her husband, they find each other again. You should definitely read the books before the next films come out!!

I get that Eleanor was trying to keep with family tradition however it wasn't because she truly believed in it. It was because she is forever trying to impress her mother-in-law. Eleanor doesn't seem to know her worth unless her mother-in-law dictates what it is. Hence why Eleanor became jealous when the grandmother immediately accepted Rachel. Rachel had confidence within herself, she knew her worth. Eleanor doing the background check on Rachel wasn't to protect her son from a shameful woman but to eliminate the competition for her mother-in-law's acceptance smh
