    ‼‼PLS READ!! ‼‼ To start, first impressions are not my final opinions. I did a bit of tinkering after posting this video (the next day), and I removed the gasket and really messed around with different positions to see what kind of improvements I could find regarding edge to edge clarity, and WOW I found MASSIVE improvements when I got my eyes really close. My facial gasket is far too thick, and not bringing my eyes nearly close enough to the lenses to give me a good visual experience, hence the mediocre first impressions. That is the point of this video though, this is NOT a final review, and things WILL improve for me going forward with this little tiny HMD. I plan to post a 2nd impressions video once I resolve these issues, but this will take time as I am at the mercy of Bigscreen Support and their response times. Hopefully I will have the experience I anticipated soon enough!
    Also, apologies for the hard to hear mic, I got excited and made the video quickly without properly checking audio levels, whoops! I decided to post this video anyway, since some of you may still find it adequate. More Beyond videos coming soon! XD

      @@cingkole7893 Yeah this is exactly what I did. Their support team has been great! I'll be getting a new facial gasket and new IPD HMD this month it seems, so I will be experiencing it again with a new set of eyes soon. They’re replacing your headset because of the gasket? Also, from what I understand with glare, its similar to the index?

      @ThisKory  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@chittychad18 Nah, they're replacing my headset because the IPD on this headset is in a fixed position and I needed a lower IPD unit. The facial gasket can be replaced without needing to send in the headset.
      Regarding glare, it's worse than the Index, as the Index keeps the glare on the outer edges, but with the Beyond the glare pops up right in the center of your vision at times. Bad during dark scenes with bright lights, but the glare is unnoticed during bright scenes, so it just depends on what games you play.

      @@ThisKory You mentioned having used a Vive Pro and not a Pro 2 about the lenses. I recently returned the Pro 2, because although the resolution was higher and SDE was gone, text still appeared somewhat blurry in the (very small) sweet spot, whereas it was perfectly clear for the (bigger) sweet spot I was getting for the Vive Pro 1 (although what little SDE there was, made it harder to read the smallest text).
      Oh, and Half-Life: Alyx dark corridor made me feel like I was staring at a monitor during the night (it's not pitch black, it's grey).

    I run the Beyond now for the last 2 months. I have measured my FOV, I sit at 99 HFOV, and about 90 VFOV. I really love mine now that I've been using it for some time.

    • @ThisKory
      @ThisKory  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah around 100⁰ FOV seems to be what everyone is getting. It makes sense, since everyone's eyes should be about the same distance from the lenses due to the custom design which tries to get everyone's eyes as close to the lenses as possible. I'm excited when I have everything settled and have a properly fitted headset 😁

      @@ThisKory Yea. Its unfortunate that they didnt create a self-changing solution for IPD adjustments. I had to send my 66mm headset back for 64mm, which made a huge difference for me. I have friends who've wanted to try it and some have great experience but some cant see anything clearly, which is a huge downside to this. I used my friend's Q3 and was impressed with the E2E clarity, but specifically for sim racing / flight sims the BSB is the best there is. Even with a 4090, I run 90hz vs 75hz, having more FPS just gives much better sense of speed, and the clarity difference is minimal. Also, I can turn on dynamic objects again in iRacing which makes a HUGE difference to immersion / lighting inside the car. The performance of the BSB is better than my G2 was and looks better. Win.

    • @ThisKory
      @ThisKory  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah the Quest 3 lenses are phenomenal and I am hopeful that whatever they did with their optics, other companies (like Bigscreen) will figure out and mimic this awesome edge to edge clarity with their future headsets. That being said, the Quest 3 does have some noticeable distortion when I compare it to the Index or Beyond, so maybe some compromises were made here to get that ETE clarity.
      As for iRacing, I am very happy with the Beyond. I have a 3080 so I personally had to turn off the dynamic objects unfortunately, even at 90Hz. I was barely able to run with it on with my Index, so I knew it was a sacrifice I'd have to make until I can afford a better PC. Otherwise, I am really enjoying this little headset! Those OLED panels are beautiful.

  • @Begohan1234
    @Begohan1234 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Do you have an index? If so, how does the glare compare to the index?
    Is the FOV a worthy trade off? How about sweet spot comparisons?

    • @ThisKory
      @ThisKory  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah I have been using an Index since 2019. The glare in the Index is worse during bright scenes, but better during dark scenes. Conversely, the Beyond does great with glare in bright scenes, but you see a lot of glare directly in your center vision at times with dark scenes and bright objects which causes the glare.
      Index FOV is better, this has been measured. If you want to test the Beyond FOV for yourself, get WIMFOV (what is my FOV) and adjust your Index knob so that it hits around 98-100 FOV (this will take trial and error). The Beyonds FOV is smaller for sure. It's disappointing at first, but then you start to appreciate the clarity and dark blacks the OLED panels give you, and you forget about the smaller FOV.
      Sweet spot is tiny, this is also known. You have a couple millimeters to play with, but it's really not much, the slightest adjustment can put you out of focus. That being said, the custom design of the face gasket means the HMD is hugging your face and this perfect fit means your headset isn't wiggling around or moving, which means the sweet spot is a non-issue when your face gasket is made as intended. Unfortunately, there are discrepancies which make this process difficult to get perfected, since you have to communicate remotely to resolve any imperfections, as someone else mentioned here.
      There are trade-offs to the Beyond for sure, but you're also getting many things that other HMDs simply do not offer, especially the form factor, weight, and custom fit. Bigscreen is doing something different than any other HMD, so there are quirks and things that will need to be ironed out. In the end, I think I will be happy once I get things better fit for my face.

    I feel your disappointment about the glare. I was all excited to purchase a Valve Index when it first came out and when I heard about them using fresnel lenses I was so disappointed. I ended up not buying one. I continued using my Vive Pro with the GearVR lenses this mod made it feel like the Quest 3 does just with lower resolution which you can see the screen door effect. I like the small form factor this BSB HMD offers. But, really that is about it. I pre-ordered one of those Pimax Crystal Light headsets with local dimming and the light house face plate to use my base stations and valve index controllers with it. It came in four days ago and Wow, best visuals I have ever seen in a VR headset. I thought my Quest Pro and Quest 3 looked good. This HMD is even better. And surprisingly it is more comfortable than both my Quest headsets. I just wanted to see what you thought about the BSB HMD. I appreciate the review. 😉👌

      Yeah and I don't even think this is necessarily a negative review, because I actually would recommend it. But I'd have to ask many questions before I can recommend it to an individual, because it's such a bespoke product, like you mentioned. If I had a good experience with shipping and getting my comfort and IPD correct the first time, I think in this video I would be discussing a lot more positives.
      Most of the negatives are things that will be fixed and then turned into positives. Once I get things corrected I'll be making another video with updates on how I feel about it. I'm imagining I'll be much happier. Time will tell.

    The way to avoid going to the apple store is to just get a used iphone xr, they are only 100 to 150 bucks and you can even resell them after getting the beyond. Might also be useful should a scan come out bad.
    16:39 there is no way a plate with some holes spaced 1mm apart would add more than a few gram to the device. It would be 100% worth it. Yes changing the ipd would require you to screw it open, but you only really do it once or twice anyway. Its such an oversight driven by pure idealism and they do pay the price for it somewhat with all the ipd replacements needed.

    I love the detail of my Big Screen Beyond but the glare is killing me, especially watching movies. The comfort leaves a bit to be desired, it's just such a different feel being sucked into your face like that. It even makes the index feel a bit airy. I currently have the Vive DAS strap on it which helped with not having audio but it made it slightly less comfortable over time which has me wondering how bigscreen's audio strap will feel. Currently considering buying a quest 3 just to see if I can tolerate the lower res to get less glare but then I have to calibrate my FBT so its a big trade off.
    EDIT: Also I did have to ship the unit back for an IPD swap and it took like three weeks.

    • @ThisKory
      @ThisKory  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Yeah edge to edge clarity still isn't great, even when I remove the facial gasket and push my eyes closer to the lenses it's still blurry at the far edges of the lenses. If you're used to the quest 3's edge to edge clarity, the Beyond will be a disappointment in that department because it doesn't have edge to edge clarity.
      However, the OLED displays and high resolution displays really do make up for the tradeoffs in blurriness at the edges of the lenses. The image quality and sharpness is outstanding, and the deep rich blacks and fantastic colors that the micro OLED panels give you means things are much more immersive and pop more due to the increased contrast. Plus the ultra lightweight form factor right.
      So it's a tradeoff for sure, but for me, the tradeoff of edge to edge clarity is well worth it. That being said, I'm used to using a Valve Index, and that doesn't have edge to edge clarity either, so I'm just used to it tbh. I have a Quest 3, and still love using it, but damn I wish it had higher res and OLED displays.

      @ThisKory  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh definitely, opticians will have the precise equipment required to properly measure your IPD so this is the way to do it. However, if I remember correctly, I read about customers who have ordered their unit based on the IPD received from their optician and they still needed to make adjustments. In my case, the BB app measured me at 60mm, I use 59mm in my Index, and it seems 58mm will be where I need to be with the Beyond. I haven't asked for my IPD from my optician, but I am now curious what it is.

      Delays are definitely the worst thing about this experience. Second worst thing is the high probability that you will need to adjust something, whether it's your gasket, or headset IPD, something will need to be adjusted, which unfortunately means more waiting. This should be expected though, and if it is, then you will be happy once it arrives because you'll see the true potential of this little headset finally. At first I was filled with regret, then I realized I can fix a lot of the issues I was having (low FOV, low edge-to-edge clarity can be resolved with a better fitting).
      Now I am very happy with it, and I am even more excited to get my facial gasket and IPD adjusted. Discord support, while a bit slow at first, was very very good, and they helped me sort things out regarding the adjustments I needed. Now it's just one last waiting game until I have things resolved. The super tiny form factor, how light it is, and how comfortable I see it can be (once adjusted), I am really excited, I do not regret my purchase, and I encourage you to stay patient, because I think it's well worth the wait. Trust me, I had the same mindset as everyone else who has been patiently waiting for months and months, all while hearing delay after delay... hang in there!

  • @SargonDragon
    @SargonDragon 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    The nonadjustability is a big challenge for the Beyond. Because it leads to "first impressions" like this where the lenses seem worse than they are because you can't adjust them like you would on any other VR headset. On another headset, you would have just made a quick adjustment of a dial as soon as you put it on possibly without even much thinking about it, and problems you experienced would have been gone or at least better.
    But on the Beyond, making an adjustment requires working with their customer support, shipping back and forth, etc. And heck, even before then it requires the face scan. There's just a lot of friction there for getting the headset dialed in that isn't present for other headsets.
    Once you're past that, however, the nonadjustability becomes a benefit. Because it's just right and won't wander. Every other headset I've run before has the IPD setting drift over time which is annoying. There's periodic fiddling which is required. I think these headsets should have some sort of locking mechanism so the IPD can't move once set, but none of them do.
    I do think the Beyond ultimately has the right idea. Ordering a VR headset should be like ordering glasses which are made exactly to your specifications, not a one size fits all. Could you imagine using bulky glasses with adjustment knobs all over them so that you can make it fit on a 13 year old girl or a 25 year old body builder? A lot of why the Beyond is so small and light is the omission of these bulky adjustment mechanisms.
    But the challenge is that this has to be done remotely over the internet and with shipping rather than a visit to an eye doctor.

      @@pertsonvelts1699 Imagine saying that about eye glasses. You should be able to share you eye glasses with visiting friends and have them fit right and work right for them. Sounds a little ridiculous in that context, right? Because we're used to the idea that eye glasses are made specifically for each person. Well, VR gear falls into that same category. It needs to be sized and personalized to each individual's size, shape, and vision for the exactly the same reasons as eye glasses do.
      Adjustability is a lot of what makes other VR headsets heavy and bulky. VR gear will _never_ be slim and light until it is nonadjustable and custom made for each individual.

      The Beyond is an upgrade coming from the Index in many ways. I was able to have a back and forth conversation with their Discord support team that lasted over an hour as they were helping me figure out the adjustments needed for my facial gasket, and helped me determine whether I needed a -1 or -2mm IPD adjustment.
      Getting the custom headset perfected is a process, but the team is there to help and from my experience, they do a good job at it and really want you to have a good experience and get things perfected for you. While I am going to have to wait another few weeks before I can get my headset replacement, I am now confident with my Beyond, because I know I have the support I need - even if it's a little slow due to the influx of adjustments needed due to their influx in shipping units.

    when you did find that sweet spot after getting the lenses closer to your eye. What would you say has more clarity The quest 3 or the big screen beyond? (just clarity in the sweet spot only, ignoring the outer clarity you mentioned you saw on the quest 3 in your video)

    • @ThisKory
      @ThisKory  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hmm, I am trying to answer your question as best I can, but let's try to define "clarity" first. What do you define as "clarity" in this question? Do you mean how clear is the center of the image itself and how clear you can see the displays? Or are you asking how clear the overall lenses project the image in terms of edge-to-edge clarity? Or are we talking about clarity regarding glare and optical artifacts?
      With the former, the Beyond is more clear than the Quest 3, simply because it has higher resolution, and a higher PPD.
      Regarding edge-to-edge clarity, the Quest 3 wins and it's not even a debate. This is a known trade-off with the Beyond, and you'll also lose a bit of FOV. This is all in trade for OLED displays (which are incredibly immersive btw, I was blown away when I first experienced basically any dark scenes), and the super tiny lightweight form factor, which in my opinion are worth it - but that's pretty subjective.
      Lastly, glare is much better with the Quest 3, but to be fair, the Quest 3 lenses are magical and no other headset really competes with its optics as far as I am aware.
      If I still didn't answer your question let me know 😅

      @@ThisKory thank you for responding, yeah I was talking more in terms of resolution, the glare, and the distortion on the otter edges is a concern for me, I am really into getting the best PPD. but that is not always best understood on paper, when, looking at both, from what I understand in your reply, you believe that big screen beyond has the higher resolution on paper, but also looks much more detailed in resolution?

    • @ThisKory
      @ThisKory  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah PPD of Beyond is 32 in the center of the lenses. The Quest 3 is 25 from what I've read. Visually, this appears to be true, as things look more clear in the Beyond with the pixels being much smaller, almost at the point of being not seen! It's probably similar to what you'd see looking at a 1440p monitor (maybe slightly worse) - pixels still can be seen, but only under specific circumstances, or when looking for them. In that sweet spot and for the areas where the clarity does exist (not blurry from the lenses), the image is crisp and clear, without any noticeable color fringing/shifting. There is some color shifting seen, but this is at the far edges of the lenses where things are already blurry. Otherwise, things are looking really nice in the areas that are clear, which when I am close to the lenses with my facial gasket off, is like 70%-80 of the lenses. That ~20-30% of the edges of the lenses are very blurry though and nothing can be read.

  • @NORTHMARIONINK
    @NORTHMARIONINK 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    So i hope you can answer this.
    I frequently hear that this has glare issues with high contrast scenes and in the same review hear that the oled contrast is amazing. These statements seem contradictory to me. How often does the glare occur and is it only for the super high brightness areas? For example when you are driving at night here does the dash of your car cause glare or the street lights as you pass them?

    • @ThisKory
      @ThisKory  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You can have fantastic contrast while also getting glare because they are separate things. Contrast is the difference between dark and bright areas, and is dictated by the displays capabilities. Glare is an effect you get from the lenses when light bounces around, or otherwise light that shouldn't exist which can create many various shapes and sizes of reflective light, depending on the lens design. With the Beyond, this glare comes in the form of smaller orbs which will move around with the light object causing the glare.
      This glare is not seen in bright scenes with the Beyond (and most headsets). The glare in the Beyond is seen when you have brighter areas that create the glare, and then you have darker areas nearby to give a background and highlight the glare to make it more apparent. This does not mean you lose contrast, and the blacks are proper OLED blacks, but the glare might be distracting at times which can move around and overlay itself in front of these black areas if the lighting is just right.
      As for the dash and street lights while driving at night, I honestly didn't even notice any glare during this time in the video. Glare is something that I've had dealt with in my Index, so it's something I'm used to and can forget about quickly because of that. So since I was focused on talking about other topics of the headset and driving around the track, I didn't notice any glare that was distracting while driving at night.
      I plan to make more detailed videos that talk about these subjects in many ways where I can give half a dozen examples and might throw up some visual demonstrations to help you understand what the glare looks like as well. That being said, as I type today it's only Day 4 with the headset for me, and I've only played a handful of games, so I'm still learning about it and how glare affects the lenses.
      I hope this was helpful 😬

    Apart from the nice black colors, it sounds perfectly horrible. That it has a nice sweet spot when you look straight ahead, is kind of,...I don't know,...also true for any other headset? So I'm not quite sure if it's that much of a "positive" when it's something that, quite honestly, must be taken for granted. Vaseline, pancake lenses. Blur. Small FOV. A lot of sweat. Doesn't really sound like it's more comfortable than other headsets. At this price point, I think the negatives still outweigh the positives. I will go with the Quest3, keep the OLED screens for my next upgrade and invest the $500 I saved, in a new GPU. Thank you for pre-ordering and sharing your experience! Saved me a lot of trouble.

      Absolutely! It definitely isn't for everyone. For me, I think I'll enjoy it a lot once I get another facial gasket to resolve the comfort concern, IPD issue, and dead pixels. To be fair, the Quest 3 had many QC issues regarding dead pixels, mura, lens variations, and comfort issues as well - especially with that default strap, yuck! So not every headset is perfect, and it is difficult to make something comfortable for every face shape.

      @@ThisKory Of course, but for the price of the Quest 3, I can live with some shortcomings. I haven't had any issues with the comport of my previous Oculus Headsets and if I end up having dead pixels, it's not that much of a pain in the behind hole, since I can buy it locally in the next big electronics store and have it replaced under warranty.

      The HP reverb G2 had a small sweet spot too(edge to edge clarity). The Beyond has about the same, maybe just a little less. Im waiting for my new face cushion to arrive, it should help with the FOV and edge to edge clarity or sweet spot, hopefully will help with the awful glare

    Hi my friend can you do a setup guide?(software and resolution) wanted to get the big screen eventually set on the quest 3. do you need a controller and would one base station be enough if you're just Sim racing?

    • @ThisKory
      @ThisKory  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I do not plan to do any iRacing setup guides here. This is something I may potentially do on my racing channel, "ThisKory Racing", but I do not have any plans currently.

    This made my mind up not to buy I’ll wait for number 2
    Adding OLED panels to then have them pointless due to glare. Such a shame as I just want a small light headset with great resolution that my 4080 super can handle and OLED panels with 125fov I’m not asking much owe and wireless 😅😅
    Great video bud.

      Glad I could help! I've used the Index for years, so I'm used to the glare with it. The Beyond is a bit worse with glare, although I definitely wouldn't say the OLED panels are pointless. They add a tremendous amount to support VR immersion with deep black levels (even with glare) and the colors are phenomenal.
      That being said, if you're waiting for OLED panels with no glare and larger FOV, then I hope a headset fits those desires soon, because I think we all want that 😅 I just hope the Beyond 2 keeps its lightweight form factor, because it's a massive selling point for me personally.
      Thanks for the kind words!! 💜

    I am in the US and I am on 5 months of waiting now...

    • @ThisKory
      @ThisKory  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah with the pre-order window plus the delays, I waited 6 months and a couple weeks to get mine. In my case, I think it was worth the wait. I calmed down a lot now that I know it's worth having, I was a bit nervous I wouldn't enjoy it after all the waiting. I need to adjust my IPD and gasket, but I already mentally prepared for this, so it was anticipated. I see its potential, and I'm now eager to get things adjusted so I can experience this thing with it's true potential.

      @@ThisKory Yeah I figure I’ve waited this long might as well just wait it out. Although I can’t complain I have the Crystal, Varjo XR-4 and Vision Pro to keep me busy 😂😂. Oh and the Somnium VR-1 should start shipping in the next few months hopefully!🤞🏻

    Yah, I haven't gotten the headset yet and the IPD thing really scares me. Like, I guess I'll trust the app but If I could have the thing for two seconds and adjust it once then I know I could get it perfect. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF I CAN SWAP FOR A NEW HEADSET WITH A NEW IPD IF IT FEELS OFF CAUSE I'M TERRIFIED

    • @OdyBeRidin
      @OdyBeRidin 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, they will allow you to send it back if the IPD is off. They will work with you on that. The customer suppoert is reallh not all there right now due to all the new users having issues.

      Sorry! I am learning and getting better at this as I go. My full review will be structured, more comprehensive, and informational.
      This video was quickly made to just talk about it openly without a script. I tend to ramble at times without a script, sorry 🫠
