Another mid 80s arcade game more recognised for its home conversions than the actual coin-op, Dragon Spirit certainly looks impressive for 1986. Flying a flame-belching, multi-headed drake was certainly something different for the time, and with these kinds of visuals, I can see the attract mode drawing quite a crowd.
As to the gameplay, it's fairly standard stuff: blow enemies up, collect power-ups and try to make it as far as you can. As with most coin-ops, it's extremely tough in later levels, but there's sufficient variety in terms of level design and enemies that it's worth persevering with. What's particularly cool is the way the player's dragon gains or loses heads, depending on how powered up the dragon is, as well as the fact the colour changes, depending on the active weapon.
I reckon the production values for Dragon Spirit are definitely up there with the best coin-ops of the time, and the fantasy theme makes for a change from the usual sci-fi space affairs that dominate the genre - go check it out!

I loved this game in the arcade. Good graphics and awesome soundtrack but damn is it brutal. I could get to the underwater level on one credit but i never managed to beat it. Congratulations for beating the whole game, fella. That final level looks insanely difficult!!

I remember playing this on Namco Museum 50th Anniversary for the PS2, then seeing it for real probably in upstate NY or on a trip to another state. I always imagined the main character in his human form to be delicious.

Ja, ich erinnere mich an die Tests damals aus der ASM und Power Play.
"Der Automat"war wohl schon eher so Durchschnitt und die Versionen für den C64 und Amiga, die ich beide durch irgendwelche "compilations" im Angebot erstanden hatte, taugten beide nix. Nach ein paar Minuten weggelegt und nie wieder angerührt.
Trotzdem ne geile Erinnerung an eine geile Zeit. Danke und einen schönen Tag!
