Well thought out summary. It's always good to give examples so the information doesn't come across as platitudes. Fast is good (duh)! Agile software engineers are very familiar with the waterfall trap. All that linear, straightforward planning can get you into trouble. Quality has two components: conformance to specification and customer value (satisfaction). Waterfall is very good at the first but oblivious to the second. You can make seven fingered gloves exactly to specification and make one customer deliriously happy, but the rest won't care. No customer value. That is why early beta testing is so important. Make sure your customer will actually get value out of your product. Read "The Lean Startup" by Eric Ries. Secondly, do you know the difference between the PE teacher who coaches football and the English teach? The football coach is judged strictly by how well his team does. He doesn't play in the game. The better skills he creates in his players, the better off he is. The English teacher is judged by his/her Master's degree or PhD and years of seniority. So, create the best players and give all the credit to them when they succeed. Believe me, you'll share in it. This creates a team spirit and motivated individuals. Every football player is volunteering for heavy extra work. Always ask "Does this create customer value?"
