If you measure the threads on the adjustment screw before starting it will give a good indication where to tighten after installation.

This was one of the better videos I've seen explaining how to replace the serpentine belt, however you don't make it clear which bolt is the pivot bolt and I'm not sure I can tell which one it is on my car? Also, what are the various sizes of the bolts/wrenches you're using?
    Thank you!

Alex, I tried to put the belt on, I had cranked the alternator all the way loose and for the life of me I couldn't get the new belt on (it was waaaaaaaay too tight). Is there a trick or something that I'm missing? Is it just a lot of pulling? It looked like it was simple for you...

+Pat Henry The only thing I can think of, without seeing it for myself is the it may be the wrong belt. Do you get much movement in the alternator once you've loosened the bolts?

make sure you routed the belt around all the pulleys correctly. Going around the wrong way could change the distances and make it not fit

How many miles/kilometers on the belt when it needed to be replaced?

That really varies on how much you drive. Its also going to depend on what brand belt you buy not all belts are created equal, a cheap aftermarket belt wont last as long as an original dealer belt. And like all rubber components belts get dry and brittle with age, so a person who doesn't drive much would want to go by time rather than miles.

They typically have a rocking belt tensioner for easy install. I guess yours didn't come with one. Australians have a different versions.

David Normally, that's the case, but in the 2009 Corolla XLE, the engineers decided it was better to use the alternator with a tension adjustment screw instead. Advantage: no trying to hold the tension pulley out of the way while trying to work the belt on or off. The disadvantage: belt tension is guess work without a tension gauge (I just adjust until squealing stops). I live in the U.S.

Great video. The sad story is I snapped a bolt while tighten it using a torque wrench. I was wondering why I hadn't heard the clicks after so many turns then the bolt snapped :-(

Sorry that happened. Its never a good day when bolts break. With bolts like this or any that don't get removed all that often its a good idea to clean the threads on the bolt and also chase out the threads on the hole it screws into. I have found through the years that doing that prevents a lot of bolt breakage when putting things back together. before chasing the threads spray some penetrating oil on them. This aids in cleaning them out and lubes the threads, this practice for me has made for very smooth reassembly, it takes extra time but its worth it because when a bolt breaks you are also in for extra work.

It's NOT a "Fan Belt" the fan is electric and it's a serpentine belt and I would not trust anybody that calls it a fan belt

David, it's just a generic term. Don't sweat the small stuff. It was a very good video to show anyone how to change the serpentine belt.
