Okay so Sua Was a lead rapper in Minx before they re-debuted as Dreamcatcher. Sua has only rapped in one song for Dreamcatcher. Today Gahyeon is Lead rapper and Dami is Main rapper. Also for Siyeon it's pronounced (She-yeon) the Si in Korean make the she sound.

Not gonna lie, I thought Siyeon was scary af when I discovered DC lol I mean, those Piri stages??? girlie looked like she could kill a person... and then I found out that she's a baby and a living meme 😭 (but she totally WOULD kill someone if they messed with Gahyeon, cause no one messes with the baby)
Dami did not choreograph Red Sun. It was only SuA. There was a misunderstanding that happened there and people thought Dami helped with the dance.

@@NolansNonsense Pretty late comment, but although Dami is more involved in the lyrics and not coreos. Most of the rap coreos is self created by Dami. So you can see that she has her unique coreos while she raps.

34:20 unfortunately international voters don't count anymore. For some reason (The Show) blocks all international votes. Yeah, I don't know why? So it sucks for Dreamcatcher ever getting a 1st win on any of the music shows. Not to mention if a big K-pop group has a comeback at the same time Dreamcatcher does, of course Dreamcatcher isn't going to win. (I hate to say that, but it's true). The rock festival they gone to are JUMF the first time they performed with the live band in 2017.
Dami is her stage name which she made up and can have more than one meaning. Korean first names are mostly taken from an official government list of Chinese characters. There are a little over 8000 characters on the list and most names combine two of those. Dami writes her name using Korean characters and the 'mi' is on the list and means beauty. The 'da' isn't on the list and the Korean meaning of the character she uses is 'all'. So it may be All Beauty which is cool, but since Dami is a romantic bookworm I think she may have been thinking of an older meaning for 'da' which is 'love' or 'loves' so Loves Beauty is good too. I wish someone would ask her instead of questions about pineapple pizza or cereal and milk.
Watching people find out that Siyeon goes from Badass to Baby in a matter of point-three seconds makes me so HAPPY

Thank you so much for reacting to Dreamcatcher! Hopefully you're not overburdened by Somnia's exuberance. We're a little hyper vigilant and the fandom started growing pretty rapidly last year so there's a lot of chaos. But, I think it's safe to say that most Somnies are very grateful when someone outside the fandom decides to give Dreamcatcher a chance and can recognize their overflowing talent. So thank you very much and if you get any hateful comments please call them out. Ain't nobody got time for that! ^_^
The only other girl group I know that had a similarly incredible vocal line was Girls' Generation OT9 (Taeyeon, Jessica, Seohyun, Tiffany, and Sunny), especially their cover of 'Honey, Honey' on LaLaLa Live back in 2009. Otherwise, 'Twinkle' , 'Holler', and 'Adrenaline' by Girls' Generation - TTS (Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun) was quite epic too for vocals!

There is a newer and well more edited/correct video for 2021. But this one is kind of OK enough.
Just in case Happyface entertainment (HF or HFE) is the main company, Dreamcatcher Company (DCC) is a sub-company just managing Dreamcatcher and for Japanese promotion they are currently under Pony Canyon. Just in case, they have looooooots of content (like vlogs and behind the scenes/making of) on "Dreamcatcher official" TH-cam channel but for older videos (from MINX to "Piri" era) you will have to check "Happyface entertainment".
Your pronunciation for all their real names are very good (better than most people me included at the begining). Just in case, "Dami" in Korean is pronounced almost like "Tami" and "Gahyeon" is more like "Kahyeon".
For the member parts:
- JiU is really so sensible (heart) and at the same time strong enough for the members and the fans. She also thinks about us InSomnias and wrote (and even composed and arranged) songs dedicated to us. And on Live performances, she always glimpses at the fan cameras to smile and wink. She is also known for her love for food (all members love eating but JiU is famous for that).
- Yes Bora can mean purple! "Copycat" yep you should check it. She also choreographed the dance in this cover. And she is also very cute (often nicknamed Boyya or baepsae which is a bird. You should check BTS "Baepsae" if not done already.) There is a mistake in the video: "Red Sun" was only choreographed by SuA. There was a mistranslation in an article hence why some thought Dami also participated (me included) but it was later corrected by the members themselves. SuA used to rap in MINX and only rapped in one title track. She sometimes raps in other covers but she said that she didn't really like her rapping and prefer to focus on her singing skills. So you are correct that most of the time, Dami and Gahyeon rap. (But just in case, Siyeon and Yoohyeon can also rap in covers and Handong seems to be able to sing-rap as well). SuA is the shortest in the group (Gahyeon seems to have grow a bit taller than her nowadays). What the guides usually forget to mention (not just this one) is that SuA is also the same age as JiU and she is pretty strict with the formal speech. Still she really care for the members as well and make jokes to lighten the mood and usually cook for them (she's like BTS Jin!)!
- Oooh for Siyeon, you instantly understood why fans called her the wolf: intense gaze with beautiful eyes. And yes it was Gahyeon rapping in "Piri" but she raps in many covers and VLives (like the one you saw after). At 11:40 it was an episode in Idol Room where Dreamcatcher and the group Everglow were the guests. There was a game where a team was on the floor linking arms and the opposing team had to grab one end to pull them apart. And yes as you noticed, while she is so charismatic on stage, she is probably the most sensible as she always cries/tears up when meeting the InSomnias or when having a concert.
- Handong was not in "Scream" and "Boca" (nor any promo from end of 2019 to end of 2020). What is fun is recently said is that when Handong came in South Korea she promised her father to NOT audition in Kpop... Just for the info, Kpop artists who are from China have even more issues for travel and such as getting visas with a Chinese passport can be harder or take longer (my wife is Chinese while I'm French and for some countries the administrative work is not fun).
- Yoohyeon's nickname tree comes from their MINX era as well and because back in the days as a trainee, her moves were a bit too rigid (?). Obviously nowadays she dances so well and can easily be in the dance line as well (SuA, JiU and Dami). Yep yep "Euphoria". My ARMY and InSomnia are happy. They did a bit of "Dynamite" in a show and Yoohyeon covered "Euphoria" during one birthday fanmeet.
- For the info, Dami is also a huge fan of Girl Generation (SNSD) and other artists (like Billie Eilish as well) and is not shy to state it. Dami is the same age as Yoohyeon but in MINX era she was the maknae and had to take care of aegyo and cuteness while she doesn't like it (she is really cute though and often shows this side off-stage and with the members).
- Gahyeon loves making VLogs so the whole pandemic situation put some kind of an halt on all of her videos. She also has many other female idol friends. Gahyeon is the most flexible of the members (with probably SuA) and she likes doing yoga. JiU is the one who exercises the most. The rock festival they mentioned was the Jeonju Ultimate Music Festival (aka JUMF) in 2017 where they performed a few songs including their first 3 title songs. There was a Live band which made the songs even better back in the days.
And yes InSomnias can be shorten to Somnies, Somnias, Sumnias... Joker Siyeon is an iconic look (as well as Pennywise and HellBoyya for SuA). My DC bias is Siyeon as well but I'm perpetually bias wrecked by all the others (like for BTS, I'm SUGA bias but the others are always coming for his spot)!
Please check the "This is..." series by insomnicsy (8 videos, one per member and one last for the whole group, 7 minutes per video) to see some of their iconic moments or learn even more about some of their personality.

Tbh I always as trouble keeping up with their labels (even if in the end I don't really care as long as our members are doing well where they are). I remember that they changed the company name from HFE to DCC but then I thought HFE was the parent company as I saw HFE was still out there and that D1CE Entertainment was also created just for D1CE. 😅

Minx's five members were all DC members except Handong and Gahyeon. DC calls their fans 'Some-Nya' because according to the vowel system of Korean, 'i' followed by 'a' leads to 'ya'. Um~ Okay! 'Manknae' is pronounced like 'mang-nae', kinda weakening of consonant, instead of 'mahk-nae'. It would be helpful if you think about 'mango'. I wrote some notes watching your reaction video. Bye~!

Since you mentioned about Gahyeon's surname, in fact Dreamcatcher members is split between 2 family surnames. Lee & Kim. So you have Kim Minji, Kim Bora, Lee Siyeon | Handong | Kim Yoohyeon, Lee Yubin, Lee Gahyeon. Not sure if it was planned or just pure coincidence. I do find it fascinating though!

3:39 While we all clearly adore Cherry, I think it's safe to say Yoohyeon's puppy Pie has taken over as the most famous pet in the fandom, simply because we see so much more of her. Both dogs live with their owners' families, so we really only get to see Cherry when JiU goes home for holidays. But Yoohyeon's family live close enough that it's generally pretty easy for her to collect Pie and have her visit with the girls.
4:25 If you want vlogs and other side content, DC have you covered, and _then_ some. On their YT channel (and Happyface's, for older stuff), they have Dreamcatcher's Notes, which are behind the scenes vlogs for the promotions and shooting. They also have personal vlogs, when they're out and about doing their own thing. And they're pretty darned active on Vlive and Weverse, so it's well worth subscribing to them on both of those...
6:50 As others have said, Dami didn't participate in the choreo for Red Sun; she made sure to clarify that when asked. And after a few of SuA's choreos, you'll soon be able to recognise one of hers without being told. They're very distinctive... 😉

Occasionally you'll see one or two of them calling back to one of their old dances, and on one Vlive, JiU and Siyeon actually had a little singalong to some old Minx songs (including a _beautiful_ rendition of Like You... 😍).

Handong was in China for a TV show (Youth With You), and was due to come back to Korea around May last year when the show finished, but... stuff happened. She did, however, get to live a few extra new experiences while she was stuck there, like getting a cameo in another group's MV (ONER's "Evil Wave"), and record her own debut solo single (First Light of Dawn)...
They call her Dongie largely because her name is actually just Dong (Han is her surname). They also (Yoohyeon especially) call her Dongdong.

25:55 So far, Dami isn’t producing any of DC’s material, but she is practicing by producing some of her own Special Clips, like Once Upon a Time (which is shown here, and she also wrote and composed) and her cover of Clean Bandit’s Rockabye. She does contribute to lyrics a lot, however, mostly collaboratively; she writes a lot of her own raps, and she co-wrote and composed New Days on Road to Utopia, and is the sole lyricist for Scar, on the Escape the Era EP.
Once Upon a Time is more of a performance piece than a straight-up rap, and is kind of a modern fairy tale. You can tell that Dami is very much a storyteller…

I often think she has two personalities; one is her fiercely intelligent 22-year old self, the other is an uncoordinated, flailing-limbed toddler, and they're fighting for dominance over her body. Most of the time, the toddler wins. Very _very_ occasionally, she rails against being "the cute one", but she loves being the maknae, and while her unnies do roast her _frequently,_ they really do dote on her.
And I think she's _slightly_ less tiny than SuA now, much to SuA's chagrin. 😜

36:25 That's a common problem. Many Somnies can't pick a bias at _all,_ but even if you do (or a bias picks you... _Siyeon_ 🙄), you'll be wrecked at every turn regardless.
I don't know if you've looked at learning Korean at all (the fact that you know how the Lee surname should be pronounced suggests this isn't your first rodeo 😉), but I'd thoroughly recommend at least doing a quick course in Hangul (the Korean alphabet); you can learn it in a matter of hours, and because it's a phonetic system, it's very good for (at minimum) learning how to pronounce Korean names and such, by seeing how they're spelled natively.
감사합니다! Thanks for all of the great info! You answered all of my questions 💕 I’m slowly learning common Korean phrases, but teaching myself is tough. I watched a TH-cam video to learn the alphabet, so I can at least follow along with lyrics and get used to matching the sounds with the written syllables.
@@NolansNonsense That's brilliant! Romanisation is okay as a casual way to learn to pronounce Korean, but many sounds just don't carry over properly, so if you can read the Hangul, and get to grips with how *those* are supposed to sound, you'll be able to read _anything_ in Korean out loud, even if you don't necessarily know what it _means._
And yeah, learning Korean is _hard_ for an English speaker (especially one who was a bit longer in the tooth when he started 😋). I've been at it for a couple of years (self-learning through Duolingo and other websites), and I've still got _so_ far to go...
So if it helps, here are the girls' names in Hangul; it might help clarify things:
JiU: 지유 / 김민지
SuA: 수아 / 김보라
Siyeon: 이시연
Handong: 한동
Yoohyeon: 김유현
Dami: 다미 / 이유빈
Gahyeon: 이가현
Sometimes? Handong digs at them for their minx past at every chance. Its hilarious actually. There was a recent vlive that Yoohyeon, Dongie, and Dami did where yoohyeon was asked by handong to sing a minx song on the vlive. Lol i swear Dongie is so cheeky when she wants to b.

your observation on siyeon was so spot on. I thought that for a while bc of her presence. like I still think she’s the introvert of the group when it comes to others. but I still love her as my bias. she along with krystal (fx), seulgi, chungha, and jinsoul(loona) is my favorite kpop idol of all time. you just won’t see people like them vocally anymore 🤍.
Jiu is a nickname their parents gave her, so all her life she has been Jiu 😉
My ult bias is Gahyeon but honestly everyone is coming at me out of left field and idk how to feel. I’ve been an InSomnia since debut and seeing them get this success makes me so happy
My biases- Dami and Siyeon (pronounced Shi-yeon)
Bias wreckers- SuA and JiU.. though Yoohyeon and Handong like to wreak me too.. especially Handong after Odd Eye
My first mvs- Boca, Sceam, Deja Vu, Piri, You and I. Dami had me in Boca. Siyeon, SuA and Jiu wreaked me. Then Piri happened and blonde Siyeon forced me to make her bias with Dami. I later went and watched the nightmare in order of release a few times (Chase Me, Good Night, Fly High, You and I, What, Piri) and then a few times starting with Fly High as it worked better for me as a set up instead of a flash back. Their first Japanese release- Breaking out is thought to be an alternate ending to Nightmare Story.

SuA last rapped in Good Night and a little in BEcause. Dami did the sole rapping in Fly High, You and I and What. Piri was Gahyeon’s rapping debut. Siyeon has a tattoo on the back of her neck “Paradise is where I am” that is inspired by her feelings after Minx disbandment and her current feelings with Dreamcater. This also inspired her solo song “Paradise” that has 4 mvs- original, white, black, piano. All of Siyeon’s covers are killer: Overdose, Speechless, We all lie, Faded.. Their official channel has various play lists. By album, just mvs, v-logs, Dreamcatcher notes (behind the scenes stuff staring from debut), dreamcatcher mind (their variety show), special clips (b-sides or covers- solo, duo, trio, group). Their Self made mvs- Sahara, Break The Wall and Poison Love are so funny. Dreamcatcher gives us so much content. Insomnicy is a channel that has a lot of good Dreamcatcher content- introducing series, montages, this is (2020) and (2021) series, and a lot of other things.
Dreamcatcher is the most talented KPop female group in my opinion for they can do it all.
I only Stan 3 groups- Monsta x, Mamamoo and Dreamcatcher.

If you really want to understand Siyeon's personality watch this compilation video of her pinching the back of Jiu's hand: th-cam.com/video/BK2zi3N_8xU/w-d-xo.html . I believe both Yoohyeon and, oddly, Sua would be main vocalists in most other groups (and all the rest leads), but DC has Siyeon who (in my highly biased opinion as a Siyeon ult) is one of the top vocalists in Kpop. Yes, she looks fierce and cold, but she's really tender and even insecure with maybe a bit of chronic stage-fright.
Their covers are exceptional and Siyeon raps (properly) on their cover of Seventeen's Oh My! Definitely check out their covers! :)
You may have already realized this...but when you use Google conversion to get cm to feet it can be confusing because it uses decimal instead of inches. For example, 5.5 feet is really 5ft 6 inches (because half a foot = 6 inches). So 5.61 feet is actually close to 5ft 7 and a half.

The average for a South Korean female is about half an inch less (161.4cm) from what Google tells me. Most idols sit in that 160-170cm range
