@@CalderwoodPercussion I built a sled just for this purpose (been meaning to build one for years) and the rings came out great! The build was very successful. Thanks!

If you are dealing with a shell that is already out of round that is being steam bent back into shape- would the old method with the pressure from the inside actually be prefereable to stabillize the shell from going out of round again?

That's a good question. It seems like it might help, although given how stable bent lamination construction can be, when used in furniture or other woodworking applications, it may be that just gluing the ring in, regardless of the method, would be enough to do the job. That said, I am inclined to agree that a tight fit would be preferable... man, now I really want to try it and see what happens!

Brother you are the man! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Most people forget what this community is about. I have a pdp cx kit that I want to put rings on it and true out the bearing edges. Do you think it's a good idea to do so??

Yeah, if you’re having tuning issues, then no reason not to. With inexpensive mass produced kits, the bearing edges are almost always pretty inconsistent, so truing and re-cutting them will probably really help. I mean, if the drums already sound great and tune easily, then maybe don’t fix what isn’t broken, but if you are having any issues, this is a good place to start addressing them.

@@CalderwoodPercussion I want to put a pair of re reings on a snare ludwig accent 6.5x14 because I have a lot of problems to tune the drum. The edge is not uniform, it is not the same level throughout the edge. Do you recommend that there be a drop for the strings or do I leave the edge even? Thank you.
