Super constructive suggestions from the guy with no content. Brushes create waste and serve no other purpose than to keep my finger clean. But water does that. When compressing one piece inside the other, it takes lubing up both pieces. Just cause there's glue on both pieces doesn't mean there's too much. Very minimal glue to clean.

Do you route the inside edge any differently or at a different angle than a drum without a re-ring?

Tighter is definitely better than loose.
Is this the same process for installing the locating collar/ring in your nesting bass drum and floor tom shells?
It is! Makes for a very stable lock between the shells and eliminates buzz.

where can I find rerings ?
all I see out there is 3/8" thick I'm thinking buy a 14" to put inside a 13" but they are also 2.5" deep That's too wide .....
