    Just got mine installed last week. Can't wait for them to integrate more battery and inverter communication. Right now it's just Tesla and Solar Edge for automatic load shedding.

      What about Franklin?

    • @jaredk6428
      @jaredk6428 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Lavasalsa1 They are working with several others to get full communication. Enphase too. But the auto load shedding is only with those two officially right now. Technically, as long as I know the power is out, I can swap breakers off via my app. But could be wasteful and not great if my AC kicked on before I knew the grid was down.

      Yes. still need a transfer switch. on top of that, the solar won't work during power outage. WTH, the hype is off the chart.

    I've had one since Oct 2021 and I do love it BUT it is mighty pricey and it is limited to 32 circuits. Also they have no desktop app, not even a fully optimized tablet app which sucks when trying to compile data from multiple resources. Overall it has helped me kill some power leeches but they really should consider making an affordable subpanel and developing a full desktop app.
    EDIT - I also have it connected to my solar and battery backup which works beautifully!

      @dunhamjr5531 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good to hear about your positive experience. I will have a Span Panel installed in the next month or two with a new solar install.
      I get the lament that its only 32 circuits, 40 would have been better but our current panel is only 20 slots, and its fully fully stocked even with some tandems loaded.
      I am surprised to hear that a tablet cannot run the app, I wouldn't have expected that.

  • @AdamMuhle

    I wish Span had a version like Ecoflows panel where each breaker can pull from two sources (basically breaker level transfer switch flexibility) Then you could use solar generation + battery to offset daily utility costs while also having backup power. Then your backup system can partially pay for itself.

    • @jadan2000
      @jadan2000 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you saying that with these panels, if the grid goes down, the panel won't pull power from the solar panels and the batteries at the same time?

    Could we get a battery back-up comparison video with Home Grid - stack’d series and a Sol-Ark 15kw inverter.

    • @PRS-0317
      @PRS-0317 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have a stack'd battery and two sol-ark 12ks. There is NO stock integration between my Span panel and the inverter/battery. I basically had to make my own. The Span's local endpoints (not officially supported) are easy to find, and the Sol-Ark's modbus output (again, not officially supported) are semi-easy to use. I had to wire up a local device to collect and centralize all the data. I used an eGauge, but a Raspberry Pi would be easier and more flexible.

    You need to do an in depth with these guys. There were more questions than answers in this segment. I have to assume its network ready. Not understanding why the inverter matters. Theoretically, the entire database of circuits, what's on them and rules could be kept in the panel. A small PC based program could allow for database setup and maintenance. Doing a whole home from a phone would be a royal pain. Per my assumptions, the only thing you don't know is the SOC of the battery bank. A simple little monitoring system on the battery bank could inform the Span of the SOC using an add-on component in the Span that speaks the common CAN packets most manufacturers use for this data , so again, the inverter doesn't matter. I suspect I've idealized their design too much.

    It should have a local API, this way if internet is down you can still use it.
    If it's cloud tied then it's a no starter for me.

    • @span_io
      @span_io 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For Home Automation purposes, SPAN is only compatible with an Amazon Alexa Integration. We are always evaluating new platforms and hope to offer an API solution in the future, however, there is no set timeline for when or if this will become public. Today, SPAN does not have an open API for local control.

    How long before SPAN expands their offerings to avoid an electrical service upgrade? I see in the FAQ, the new EV charger will be the first step but we're going to need more granular control as we move towards Heat Pump HVAC and Heat Pump Water Heaters to replace our gas units.

    • @johnhaller5851
      @johnhaller5851 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Answer is not enough breakers, and the solution is to add a second Span panel fed from the first panel. If I wanted to move to a heat pump and heat pump water heater, and a heat pump pool heater, I would fill my panel, and it already has more breakers positions than Span.
