  • It's been a bit since episode 1 of this prehistoric series, so I decided to bring it back. Me sure to tell me in the comments what you want episode 3 to be about! As of right now, I'm only doing USA and Canadian Steam Locomotives.

My father in law was a SP Tucson Div hog head. He told me the old EPSW steamer's all had more power per wheel arrangement than the SP loco's did. He told me the MT 2 had the power of the SP GS-1's. AC 9 were not EPSW designed BUT more powerful than any AC cab forward.

In reality, one of these locomotives could be reborn either as a replica or as a new member of the class. These things could slam right along at 75 miles an hour too, faster than big boy 4014. They also called these engines Gila Monsters after the infamous venomous lizards.

How this type of locomotive never made it to preservation is unbelievable. Yes I understand SP couldn’t afford to maintain all of their diesels and steam engines.

The Yellowstone AC9s are similar to the Bigboy class
