  • This video takes us on a tour of the Laws Railroad Museum and Historic Site in Laws, California which is a few miles outside of Bishop, California.
    The museum is free to enter and focuses on railroad and mining history. There are 11 acres of indoor and outdoor exhibits as well as a mock up of a mine and mill.
    We visited for at least two hours with Ron Morefield, who gave us a great demonstration of a couple hit and miss engines, plus the history behind several more engines, that are there at the museum. There is also the original depot and the Slim Princess, a narrow gauge train that served the rail stop at Laws. It is a great museum that will take at least a few hours to explore.
    Here are links to two related videos about the hit and miss engines.

    Hi Tom :) Just want to say, great..great video!!! This was a great way to spend a half an hour this morning :) You did really well with this video, and you really captured a lot. Lots of detail. I didn't realize that there was so much to see at this museum, other than the trains. This museum appears to be very well maintained and kept. I have wanted to to see this place for a few years now, but after seeing your video this morning, I really want to see it soon. I used to take annual summer trips to Mammoth Lakes, and haven't been up that way in at least 10 years. Thank you for doing this video and sharing it with all of us :) I have subscribed to your channel :)

      Thanks for the great comment, John. I'm glad you enjoyed the video, and museum, and I appreciate the kind words. I really hope you get a chance to go visit this place soon. Leave yourself plenty of time to see everything. The price is right, too, free! Thanks for subscribing to my channel also.

    Just took the Bishop museum tour using your video. It was awesome with great photography and narration by Tom. Been to Bishop countless times in the 70's and 80's and never knew it was even there. My great uncle owned a bar in the town of June lake so we pretty much went there for the free beer. Way cool museum though, Thanks!

      Hi Randy. The museum is really a fun place and the price is right. Free! I would plan on spending at least a few hours there. Certain days of the week, they will start the 15HP hit and miss engine in the mining display area. Here is a link to more of our videos of the museum if you're interested. Thanks for watching!

    That is quite the place.. A little bit of everything. Only came across 4 intact insulators over the years. Still have all four.

    • @TomandJulieMineExploring
      @TomandJulieMineExploring  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A lot of interesting things here for sure. Glad you found your insulators. The only ones I have ever stumbled across have been in pieces. I think they made good target practice for bb guns and 22's. Thanks for the comment, Max!

    love the old cases, I have one that has been in the family for 3 generations. that was a lot of branding Irons. Wow quite a collection of everything. guns collection alone is worth the trip there. The steam locomotive looked a little complicated with all the valves. the wagons are amazing. Great museum guys, I really enjoyed it, Thanks for sharing.

    Thank you thank you so much for this. I am bed ridden and sick. The tungsten mine that my family mind created an illness in us that made us all ill. Killed most of us eventually. I am the little girl who played with all of those things behind the class windows when I was growing up. My family is the Guthrie family and we all were born and raised in that little tar paper Shack right across the street from the museum office that you see. I've been longing to see my home. God bless you God bless you thank you. My mother took that train to school every day and it was my jungle gym when I was a little girl. I'm in tears I'm so happy

      Thank you for the nice comment, Mistaya. I'm sorry to hear you are not feeling well but I'm happy you can see your childhood home and some things that were important to you from the past. I hope you can get healthy enough to go back and see your home and some of the museum in person. I will be back in this area again next spring so please let me know if there is anything else you would like to see on video. Feel free to leave any more comments you might have here. Thanks, Tom

    Hello, Tom & Julie. What a great tour of the museum. Thank you for bringing me along. Can't believe you have not had more views on this video. Try updating the thumbnail, so TH-cam will give this video another go, try promoting this when people go to your page. I believe more people would love to see this if they knew about it. Maybe do a voice-over, re-release this one as a special oldie but goodie, or something. It deserves a lot more views than 3,000. I don't see other channels doing this type video, along with the mines. More people want this kind of content along with mine explores, to better understand what was happening at the mines, and towns back in the day. Thanks again, really hope you try the thumbnail, and do a voice-over, re-upload this one as a new video, I am sure it would do fantastic.

    • @TomandJulieMineExploring
      @TomandJulieMineExploring  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for watching the video, and we're glad that you enjoyed it, Gary. We appreciate your input on helping to get this video more views. I don't think anyone really understands how the TH-cam algorithms work as far as the way videos are promoted. I agree that this video should have more views. I say that not just because it's our video but because I believe the content warrants it. Maybe we can make it our featured video that plays when people come to our channel to see if that gets it back in the mix. I don't really like doing or listening to voiceovers, so that probably won't happen. We have made several other videos of different parts of the museum, some of which have done quite well. I will put a link here to our Laws Museum playlist so you can see all of the videos if you'd like. Thanks again!👍😊
