Well, I'm sold as long as it keeps getting updated. So where should I generally look when buying this thing? I know we can't post links, but at least which online stores should I be searching?
I've updated the store link a few times, but something about Aliexpress that keeps breaking them. If you search for Saroo on Aliexpress, and look for one being sold by "Retro Game Paradise Store" then that should be from the creator. I got mine from KKDiy and its been fine, but others have reported issues.
@@GouldFishOnGames I've also gotten conflicting reports about it's update regularity. I'm going to wait a little bit and see if those updates do continue. But I do like the idea of enhanced loading speeds where they work.

I have a 60hz modded PAL model 1 and MSH vs SF works great. Always power cycle the machine when changing games to avoid problems with sound stuttering and other issues.
It made no difference in power cycling or resetting, that results I showed for MSH Vs SF were consistent for my 50hz PAL machine. but worked great on the JP.

Sega were really good at PAL optimising their games, so while Nights runs at a slightly lower frame rate, it runs at the correct speed and is slightly higher resolution than the NTSC versions.
Great video. But there is one mistake. With Fenrir you can back up your internal saves on the SD card. Sadly Ali Express doesn't deliver the saroo to Germany. I'm happy with my Fenrir but for curiosity I would like to try the saroo.

@@GouldFishOnGames I’ll eventually get a saroo due to my fascination with the Saturn as a whole . I just feel if a disc drive is operating and running for something as old as it can be , might as well utilize it as much as you can . That’s usually the first thing that goes if it’s not the power supply within a console and we have innovations for most consoles now to address either one of those instances. The ram slot too on Saturns are finicky and as shockingly amazing as it is to use a bus through there , it can be hindered by many potential issues too . I have a feeling the Saroo overtime will be perfected and make a lot of consoles / console owners keep their Saturns alive without the knowledge or will power to swap out a disc drive or cough up the money for a video card back door. I enjoyed this video particularly on the Saroo a lot btw
I've updated that link a few times already, I have no idea why Aliexpress messes with them all the time. I get the feeling that because its mostly a github page and you have to buy them from aliexpress, people aren't willing the take the risk
It has an option to play a CD, but when I tried it with a burned one it didn't work. it was from another region so that might have been the problem. or its only there to let you run original media.
It will play a good number of Japanese games, but if its a 50hz system then it will run them slower. Marvel Super Heroes Vs Street Fighter and Metal Slug were both Japanese games that I ran on the none Japanese system.
Does anybody know if there is a way to go back into boot screen on a saroo with having to reset it every time?? Feels like I'm gonna corrupt the sd card any day now
@GouldFishOnGames actually just learned that if you press start + ABC at the same time will bring you to that Saturn's stock interface and you hit start application to send you back to the saroo boot menu. I've not run into that problem, so can't really help with trouble shooting. I think it just reads the folder name, so its possible the bin/cue files are bad?
Can you do me a square and pretty please do a deep dive into what if any emulator devices can take on, play and actually work perfectly with *"Mr Bones"* ? I have the original, a saturn & what not but would love a way other then running my original disc as i fear the tread warranty on saturn games wears down and they love to abuse & cut themselves (scratches) which i think is the drive + laser engine misfiring for 0 reason);

Don't feel silly, in 2021 the Saroo wasn't anywhere near as polished as it is now.
and the Satiator still has better compatibility with games.
Just got mine with the 64 gb sd and it’s awesome! Is there a way to go back to the game select screen from in game or do you have to reset the system every time?
I've read that in the newer firmware holding A+B+C+Start should do a reset back to the menu.
but I've not tested it my self.
Thank you so much for the info. I have one coming in and this was great.
Great video! I didn't know this existed I might have to get one!
Saturn ports when 😉
@@GouldFishOnGamesFunny you should say that... I might eventually!
I just bought one a couple of days ago, also the kkdiy version
I have a 60hz modded PAL model 1 and MSH vs SF works great. Always power cycle the machine when changing games to avoid problems with sound stuttering and other issues.
It made no difference in power cycling or resetting, that results I showed for MSH Vs SF were consistent for my 50hz PAL machine.
but worked great on the JP.
@@GouldFishOnGamesMSH Vs SF will not run in 50hz well at all. Back in the 90s I imported the game and I thought the disc was broken. I sent it back and the replacement was the same. Years later I found out that certain games will not work at 50. Strangely tho Xmen Vs SF is fine.
This may actually make me finally buy a Saturn. Do you know if it's compatible with Dragon Force and the Shining Force III games?
I've not tested those games my self, but there is some one who has done tests and published the results on TH-cam.

This cart is a must-have!
Great video I need to get this and buy Sega Saturn console I love playing on original hardware thanks for sharing 👍
yeah I love playing on original hardware where possible.
and carts and add-ons like these really help with that.
as an American, watching NiGHTS gameplay at 50hz legit gives me vertigo
Sega were really good at PAL optimising their games, so while Nights runs at a slightly lower frame rate, it runs at the correct speed and is slightly higher resolution than the NTSC versions.
I was aiming at getting a Pseudo Saturn Kai cart until this appeared in my feeds. Maybe I may consider getting this.
Have you tried the SDLoader which hooks up via the second player controller port on the Sega Saturn?
I'd seen those but not tried them.
Great video. But there is one mistake. With Fenrir you can back up your internal saves on the SD card. Sadly Ali Express doesn't deliver the saroo to Germany. I'm happy with my Fenrir but for curiosity I would like to try the saroo.
Some one else mentioned that, I had no idea it had that feature but its cool.
This is great. I run a pseudo kai now but it does still run cd's. So that laser will only last so long.
i am seriously considering the saroo as a option as i don't want to spend a bunch of money on a ode, if it's close to as good as the ide/cf mod for the dreamcast is i will probably go that route, might build it my self.
Would be interesting in trying to build it, not sure how good the docs are on flashing and building.
Finally, a cheap and available (I hope) solution to play
Saturn ganes discless. I ain't paying 400 euros for a satiator, and the other options are always out of stock.
Yeah, the price of the Satiator held it back for me, and I was interesting in a solution that didn't remove the drive.
so this has been a great option.
Maybe already ask, but did you notice faster loading time respect cd?
I just went with the Satiator. One gets what one pays for.
im replacing all my optical drives with ODEs. im on my 3rd ps1 and i had enough buying them all over. only my dreamcast, ps1 and xbox360 to go.
no Taromarou gameplay!!? if you don't know the most expensive sSaturn game is an absolute breakthrough: shinrei Jusatsushi Taromarou (It's ntsca and Japanese only but completely playable.... and worths thousands: the Og edveloper estimated they were only 5000 ever made, but that has been disputed: most people agree there's at least 20.000 to 50.000 copies printed and maybe 5 % exist mint in the wild.
Is the cartridge edge bevelled?
mind isn't, but it never felt difficult to insert the cart.
if anything the slot on both my PAL and JP machines felt too easy to insert.
Do you have the Saturn mpeg card? Can you check if Lunar complete works?
I don't have an mpeg card
I ordered one, when it arrives in the mail im gonna say "Saroo, how do you doo?"
I wonder if Krikzz will do something like this.
It would be good to get more groups looking into this approach, as I think it would help everyone.
Dude, that anime girl on the logo is deep lore only the cool people will get the reference 😉
At no point in my life have I ever claimed to be one of the cool people 😉
@@GouldFishOnGames let's just say the designers of this "Saturn" based product done their research, couldn't think of a better licensed official character to represent the Sega Saturn.
MSH v Streetfighter glitches at 50Hz - one of the few games that does.
Yeah, its something I learned after the video.
I'd never played the Saturn version before so had no idea.
9:43 - and that’s exactly why I won’t by this rn
I’ll stick with my video card ODE and self made pseudo Saturn / action replay carts. If my disc drive ever dies I’ll go fenrir or MODE
Yeah there are limitations and compatibility issues, so if you already have a solution there isn't any real need to change.
but if you are looking for one, then its an interesting alternative.
Any news on the new firmware update?
Link to shop down .
Why is there so little reviews for these at the moment
I've updated that link a few times already, I have no idea why Aliexpress messes with them all the time.
I get the feeling that because its mostly a github page and you have to buy them from aliexpress, people aren't willing the take the risk
I already bought a Mode in 21.
Is there a way to get to the Saroo menu while in game?
Can you still play Genesis games on it?
Does it still play burned CDs? If it did it would fully replace the Pseudo Saturn.
It has an option to play a CD, but when I tried it with a burned one it didn't work.
it was from another region so that might have been the problem.
or its only there to let you run original media.
Sounds cool!
wish i got one a year ago when they were like 15 bucks even though i don't have a saturn lol
So what if you had a non-Japanese system, does it do the Japanese ISOs?
It will play a good number of Japanese games, but if its a 50hz system then it will run them slower.
Marvel Super Heroes Vs Street Fighter and Metal Slug were both Japanese games that I ran on the none Japanese system.
Anyone know if you can dumb/rip the Saturn console bios with saroo?
I've not seen any mention of that kind of functionality
Hello GouldFish I'm Greenchrysópsaro
Does anybody know if there is a way to go back into boot screen on a saroo with having to reset it every time?? Feels like I'm gonna corrupt the sd card any day now
As far as I'm aware there isn't a soft reset, but hard resetting the console should be fine if its not saving to the SD card at the time.
@GouldFishOnGames actually just learned that if you press start + ABC at the same time will bring you to that Saturn's stock interface and you hit start application to send you back to the saroo boot menu. BUT, whenever I press on the start application it just brings me back to the beginning on the game..
I have de last version and no games run but we can see them on the saroo menu....
I've not run into that problem, so can't really help with trouble shooting.
I think it just reads the folder name, so its possible the bin/cue files are bad?
@@GouldFishOnGames maybe ! you have a website for donwload true bin cue games? thx
Can you do me a square and pretty please do a deep dive into what if any emulator devices can take on, play and actually work perfectly with *"Mr Bones"* ? I have the original, a saturn & what not but would love a way other then running my original disc as i fear the tread warranty on saturn games wears down and they love to abuse & cut themselves (scratches) which i think is the drive + laser engine misfiring for 0 reason);
Btw I'm your 260'th Sub'bub'Scriber😊
I've not tested it my self, but some one has been going though a lot the games for the system and building a compatibility list.
th-cam.com/video/F8FgqWW7_Gk/w-d-xo.html
Does saroo plays Japanese saturn discs and burned saturn games?
When I tried it with burned games it didn't work, Its possible I was doing something wrong but for now I'd keep the Psudo Kai around for that.
I guess they could add that in future.
@@GouldFishOnGames and japanese saturn discs?
Satiator is worth every penny
Wait, is this like the Satiator?
Very similar, but using the cart port and currently not quite as compatible
Anyone having saving issues? When i boot a game it acts like i dont have any save data
I've not noticed any issues my self.
the github page would be the best place to ask . github.com/tpunix/SAROO/issues
Hi does any one know how to swap discs on multi disc games
That ali express listing is dead
Aliexpress has a habit of breaking links its a bit of a pain.
I'll try and find the new one.
BUG HAS UPDATE
I noticed that just after I uploaded the video.
Not had a chance to check it out, but figured it was useful to show that some games do have issues.
You can fix on saroocfg.txt by setting sector_delay values.
Search for: "[Sample] SAROO 1.32 (231125) - Bug! (U) = Fixed?"
I can confirm that fix works great, got it from @chap3l channel as he's been testing a lot of the odd & ends of titles.
50hz 😖 PAL 👎🏼
