I wanted to say "Thank you!" My girlfriend has an iPod from 2005 that had some very sentimental music she never thought that she would get back. The iPod but her standard was dead and gone, after ordering a new battery and watching your video a couple of times, I was able to bring the iPod back to life and she cried and then danced around the house the rest of the weekend. I am really thankful for your channel and insight...Again, Thank you
Man those are the moments that matter the most. When you see the inner joy come out then you did good and get that awarding feeling. I'm Dad and husband. That is where it counts. 👍
best quickest smartest video on this i saw i have about 10 ipods old ones and 3 new blue tooth you did a step no one else did pulling at the case at the charging port what a diff thanx gonna order my $9 battery and tools tomorrow very well done video i just did my s3 frontier battery piece of cake.
thanks ! I found my old ipod classic the day before yesterday, it still works fine but the battery, even when fully charged, doesn't last more than an hour! I'm going to change it thanks to this method!
Taking out the battery is tricky do to the glue. You are missing the part where you need to make sure the strip under the battery Shiite stay intact otherwise if you brake the hold button doesn’t work anymore
Yoooo, lmao. That battery swap was the quickest apple repair I've ever done.... literally 3 minutes. Thanks! I was thinking it'd be some 20-30 minute job, Then putting it back together another 20-30 minutes. Ah, when things were simpler.
Excellent video. I lifted the ribbon connector right out from its pin base, it was guesswork putting it back and not bending any of the fragile pins on the board. Also, it looked like I lifted and bent a few of the pins at the charging port. Despite this, the iPod happily switched on and started charging!
Good video. I accidentally ripped the single ribbon wire below the battery when prying the battery out. Is that the ground wire? Can that be soldered back together?
@@DeaninItYourself WTF did you pry the battery out when all you needed to do was just pull the wire. I "pried" just like you said and the battery socket came out!
I have three. Two still charges but the one I need 160gb refuse to charge. Been charging it for 2 days no result. It writes"charging" on display. Hope your guide helps.
I can't get my iPod classic 80gb case open. I'm using utility knife blade and metal scraper and it still won't budge. If I could get it started, I'd switch to vinyl / guitar picks etc., but I can't budge it open at all even after bending out the thin metal above the charging port.
Sadly, apart from mangling the case, I didn't quite understand the construction of the battery lead and irreparably damaged it by pulling the end off the ribbon wire so everything ended up in the garbage unfortunately (I did put the separatelable metal parts in my metal recycling) I have not been able to find a comparable MP3 player that allows constructing playlists. All the low cost high capacity ones on Amazon require you to copy MP3 files to a separate folder instead of actually creating a playlist that doesn't require a duplicate of the file on your disk.
How can I tell if I need a battery or a hard drive? My classic has been on the charger for an hour and is cycling off and on with the logo and a click like it’s trying to start up. I’m hoping it’s just the battery that needs replacing
For me, the ribbon cable holder snapped right off when removing the ribbon cable. Not your fault, but people should know how delicate (read: crappy) that connector is.
I have a 160gb iPod Classic Model A1238, SN: 8K944RUR9ZU, not sure what generation it is, but I got it back in 2004 brand new. Can you help me with replacing the battery and possibly the place for the 3.5mm jack? Mine acts a bit wonky and it won't stay charged at all.
I’ve replaced the battery two times and both times it works fine for a few days then the battery just dies and work take a charge anymore. Any suggestions? Would greatly appreciate it.
@@DeaninItYourself the battery charges it works fine and then it just won’t take a charge or turn back on, I put a new battery and it works then the samething happened again.
so far i all i have managed to to was bend the bottom piece and scratch the crap out of the black facing - the little pry tools are useless for me ..ugh it looked so easy in the video
In theory your video is correct. In reality, I destroyed the plastic tools, used a small screwdriver and chewed it up the iPod. Got it apart, went to easily pry the battery out. That didn’t happen. Smooshed the battery and got it out. Then I went to put the new battery in and realized my cat chewed the wire. Hmmm.
Be careful of the"hold" button wire running under the battery. Didn't hear him mention it and I severed it getting the battery unglued.... Edit: I put it back together and it works! Just won't be able to use the hold button I guess.
Bro I’ve done this four times. Super easy! Just be careful with that ribbon in the bottom corner. That is the only treacherous part. Deaninityourself does great job of breaking it down. Try it , what do you have to lose?
Not as easy to do as the vid makes it seem. It was hell separating the back. My flathead screwdriver slid and made a hole in my hand. The snaps were not easy to find or unsnap. You left out the part about the wire under the battery. It was hell removing the battery. Thanks. I ruined my iPod. You should not make it look easier than it really is.
Made an account to say I also screwed up my classic trying to replace the battery, I have replaced the batteries on a lot of products, this product was NOT designed for this, get a professional if you can about the device
If you guys have the metal face iPod Classics (6+7gen), they are WAY harder to get off than the gen 5 this guy is working on. You can take a gen 5 apart with those tools super easy. Gen 6+7 are notoriously hard
@@ImpureGunner used to do this regularly with a Swiss Army knife in high school. Just went at it with proper tools and no memory of how it’s supposed to go and can absolutely agree that this is a bad, incomplete tutorial. Can only image how many faceplates have been mangled following this 4 minute demonstration.
This video is BS. I purchased a replacement battery and tried to separate the frame with the flimsy plastic tools. They broke. So I used a screwdriver and bent the metal, both the screwdriver and the frame. But, I soldiered on once I got it separated I took on the battery. No instructions and the cable was too short. Plus, the little connection point came loose and broke. I put it all back together, bent frame and all and guess what? It didn't work, so I just threw it all away. My advice is to just throw it away and don't waste your time on this video or your money on a replacement battery.

Brilliant. Thanks for doing this video. Changed the battery in my ipod and all good. Thank you so much 😊

Thank you. I'm now interested in doing this.
Try it.
The amount of times I dropped my iPod in the past has made it easy to come apart.
Where did you order the kit replacement?

Same issue here. he made that part look easy
The key is to start right above the charging port. Once you pry the case open then use the picks and slide them around the case
If all else fails try using a hair dryer to heat the metal gently. This is often enough to soften the grip and release the hold.

Can 3000Mah batteries be used in an iPod Classic?
Are replacement batteries and the tool kit still available?
They sure are
The link to the battery is out of stock do you tecommend another one?
let me update the link

how about replacing hdd?

how did you ruin it?
The back plate is bent and no longer clicks back in place. Also the ipod still doesn’t turn on.
battery details please??
Wow. I had to just about destroy the case to separate. Not even close to the video. But everything else seems accurate.
sorry, some come apart easier than others
it is impossible to get the back off without damaging it. I ruined my iPod now
it is not impossible you just need to be gentle. the important part is to start by the power port
I broke my screen and ribbon attachment.
sorry to hear.
