Why does Emmett sound more like Hee Haw than a surfer? I don't understand making a role to form a camp. Any soldier/jarhead who has been in the field for like 3 days knows how to make a camp and likely would have no trouble hiding it from others unless the area was absolutely flat and with no foliage or rock cover.
Field craft is an art, and one the basics of training doesn't teach. and even if they knew how they don't necessarily have all the materials to hide it etc. the roll isn't to clear a pitch and lay down a sleeping bag, its to find the materials needed to make a shelter, conceal it from view in a manner that looks natural and not man made. these character are in a survival situation in an active war zone. things are not as easy as a field exercise or even when we were fighting in the sandbox. there we usually had superior firepower and didn't worry about concealment. in the world of 2k the enemy is superior in terms of firepower, manpower, and in some cases skill. this is about escape and evade on a continental scale. the only time the military covered that was at advanced levels of training. (SEALs, Rangers, Special forces, Delta, etc.) its harder than you think to hide a shelter from soldiers who are trained to spot anything manmade in the wilds. in urban environments you need to secure your shelter, set up defenses and fields of fire. just saying rolling to make camp makes sense. at least to me it does.
@@innezka Im an 80s 11B and spent 4 years in a group. It is easy and we knew by the time we left Benning. It is even easier living in a world with no or not much NODs or thermal. These aren't civilians. Not being able to rest unless you roll a 6 is silly.
@@NemoOhd20 didnt realize you were a grey wolf. They def dont train us like they used to. You guys were the last to be taught to fight a proper war. Not like us who dealt with insurgents. You may have been in around the same time as my father. He was with 2nd Armor or 10th mountain or 8th ID depending on which year we are talking. Rolling to make camp still makes sense to me tho. Not like they are roll for sleep, which would be ridiculous. Im sure it was the same as the 80s but we could sleep damn near anywhere.
You can still sleep if the person making camp fails the roll. It just triggers a mishap roll. And I think only 1 of them means you dont rest. The others are different effects. Pg 148.
when Emmett steps on a landmine, the landmine apologizes.
