- 7:11 Polyrhythm? I've gotten so many requests for this polyrhythms on #drums so here it is! It's infinitely easier to play these polyrhythms without the constraints of time. So knowing where the time is for each rhythm and how it relates to the meter (metronome) is key!

You are a true master of your craft. And as impressive as the polyrhythm is, almost equally as impressive is the switch at the start from counting just the 7, to then counting the 11, with no guiding beats from the metronome, and still being perfectly on time. It's like magic.

I was definitely mire confused than i thought id be
Basically showing a 7:11 rhythm, where he starts with seven, progresses to eleven, makes eleven the count, and goes back to 7 count.
Right hand playing 11 beats per beep, the left hand is playing 7. When playing simultaneously, you get a 7:11 polyrhythmic beat.

I can do this, and I never knew the duration. I just memorized the sequence and practiced
nothing more menacing then a drummer after they just killed a hard ass beat. either they slam their sticks down or they clasp them together.

Not if the metronome is providing the meter. In that context… the metronome is the meter and what I am playing are notes (rhythms) inside of that meter. So polyrhythm.

Where has this occurred in music? How may it be applied in music? Beats me.
Any polyrhythm is just a rhythm… how is any rhythm applied to music?
Can you make a song out of this polyrhythm? I’m sure it can be done, but it seems tricky. Exercises are cool and all but application is where it’s at.
@@kettlemagic not every exercise has to be practical… knowing the outcome of an exercise is key… for example, many drummers practice getting their paradiddles as 16ths at 300bpm… you are rarely, if ever, gonna do that in a song… so why practice it?
Funny enough, there’s a piece called 7:11 by Adam Neely which makes use of this polyrhythm throughout its entirety

@@mintgumornot Do you think they invented polyrythms ? Listen to Antonio Sanchez, Mike Mangini, Virgil Donati... They play polyrythms much more complex, and they can improvise on the drum kit.
