The beauty of this is that it shows the true ability of the drums- keeping rhythm- and just how difficult it can be. Moreso in the world of jazz where solos can go to all sorts of extremes, it falls to the drums to hold a steady beat all the way through. It would be extremely difficult to process a rhythm for this song without the drums, 8bitdrummer really is a master of his craft
As an aspiring musician, the most impressive part isn’t the keeping rhythm. The song has an even best in the background that makes it somewhat easy to follow. What makes it so good is how many little flairs he throws in to follow the vibe of the song, when he’s hearing this for the first time! Being able to correctly interpret the dynamics and match that with his own playing is the mark of a pro.
It’s impossible to do anything other than the basic 4/4 because the sequences on top are speeding up and slowing down continually. It’s not one steady polyrhythm, it’s cycling through every polyrhythm.
He actually makes house, complextro, disco, with some orchestral intros/outros.. imo he's already a complete producer. You should listen to his last album, for sure it's edm but I think you'll hear what he's capable of. I agree that he CAN do other things, but not that he SHOULD
Virtual Riot is actually insanely good at finding concepts like this and turning them into absolute bangers. For example, there's another video on his channel called "death by amen" where he makes a full song using an amen break. Another example being when he collabed with Andrew Huang for one of his 4 producers 1 sample video and turned a short piano piece into a full complextro song ("Everything here except the drums uses the sample" is what he said). He's got a lot of technical knowledge and it shows.
i feel like playing along with polyrhythms is like trying to use a broken clock. it tests your timekeeping abilities, but the moments when you're in sync are so satisfying.
This absolutely sounds like a song my now dead brother would have designed. Dani (Daniel) i miss you so much. Hopefully you now have your peace. Thanks for this trip. It was quite nice.
I love seeing your drummer's ear and brain chewing on this song. ^_^ It's super fascinating, huh? I love the shifting patterns, where sometimes it almost doesn't work, but then it becomes something else that does. I like listening to this one while I'm working.
If you wanna hear an even cooler version of this. Look up "I heard you like polyrhythm techno" from Mel Doy. Trippy visuals, and a banger edit of the original track.
Kinda like some sci-fi trippy pixel game boss music the polyrythme sometimes being attacks in the game others being the song it's self dunno my thoughts tho
Heard this song a week or two before seeing THIS video and I couldn’t get through more than about half of the og vid but with drums I could listen on repeat.
To better understand what happened, I think: th-cam.com/video/_iXlef9GFTY/w-d-xo.html or th-cam.com/video/4GaGnU8Ij2Y/w-d-xo.html would help I love your drum! hope you can discover more amazing beat!
When you play music for a while you start to pick up where music changes happen and where phrases will end, I'm not sure what you are thinking with the delay but that sounds extremely difficult to do, best analogy i could think of is reading 2 books at the same time, itll get very scrambled
@@ImprovSpeech Yeah, I know (pianist + music theory student of 8 years) but sometimes he gets OUT OF THE BLUE break changes and a sudden buzz roll or random double time Yeah I also thought about the delay but if he had like a perfect measure or one beat delay it could be possible- also the reactions he gets on a sudden change happen before he actually drums the pattern
@@GXboy12345 yeah not sure about that, Ive definitely seen a few songs where he does get caught out by the changes though so it might just be previous familiarity with the song/genre or he's just better lol
I dont understand how shifting all the 4/4th notes by one note results in the polyrythm pattern. If you do it precise, you just end up with stacked notes again. What am I missing?
I like how this started as *confused drumming* but slowly shifted into *vibing drumming* xD
it suits the original vibe so well too
pov: when your uhhmmm uhhhh going to do drums and you uhhh get tripped out from the music too much and you uhhmm uhhh uhmmm
Drummers with adhd zonig out be like
You are not napstablook bro
Merg style pfp
You tried
so quirky and funny, very haha lmao indeed
Virtual Riot really said "Its Polyrhythm time" and polyrhythmed over all of us
That was my favorite part of the movie ngl
Defiantly the quote of all time
yeah bro i liked that part when it said "♪♪♪"
Virtual Riot is an amazing producer, his Ableton music videos are 🔥af, I especially like the amen break one.
wait, you're telling me there's people who haven't heard of virtual riot?
@@litterbox019 yeah. not even squishyman does
Dont forget his cubase era too
This both works and doesn’t work at the same time, and it makes my brain turn inside-out trying to process it. 😵💫
welcome to polyrhythms
Yeah, a really hard bit starts and it slowly becomes less catchy as time goes on
no it just works
that's what makes it great
And it feels wonderful 🧠
"It's a straight beat, but I man wanna do something different, yanno?" then the drop and he do something different. And had a blast doing it.
I heard you like the8bitdrummer
You were right
how did you know??
yeah, man why i havent found this channel sooner, damnit youtube algorithm

Man this Virtual Riot is good, he should make a music career out of dubstep or something.
He actually makes house, complextro, disco, with some orchestral intros/outros.. imo he's already a complete producer.

for 4 producer 1 sample, i would give it to au5. he made everything from one sample, including the drum. man really good at sound design
@@prohanta9360 he wasn't in that episode but yes
Close your eyes and imagine each color syncing the polyrhythms, you'll start seeing a spiral
you're right but it's crazy that you can just imagine that

This feels like it shouldn't work and does work at the same time?!!! WTF?
The way your head perked up at the drop reminded me of that one Shaq clip when he was on Hot Ones LOL
I usually don't like polyrhythms but this one is a jam
what isn't there to like? haven't you heard 3:4?

My head feels transported to another universe
Man, once you fell into the proper rhythm you started zoning in. Majestic tune.
It's such a weird feeling to play at a constant tempo and feel the polyrhythms gradually shift
Please check his other experiments like this, like 'death by amen'
Dude, that would be nuts
I can only count to four.
The numbers have all beaten you
You never made it through middle school
1 2 5 4 (5 4)
now it's time to make half life 4
1, WHAT COMES AFTER ONE? 2, WHAT COMES AFTER 2? 3, WHAT COMES AFTER 3? FOOOOOOUUUUUUURRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!
the many, many thousands of emojis sent trying to capture just how hard theyre jamming out
This is the definition of the phrase “To Get in Rhythm”
Virtual Riot x 8BitDrummer is the actual best thing ive ever seen 💫💫
I heard you like polyrhythms, so I put polyrhythms in your polyrhythms so you can polyrhythm your polyrhythms ;3
This is like the stopped clock illusion but in audio form.
i already loved the song but drums on top of it is so good to listen !
Love to see two of my fave online musicians (Virtual Riot and 8-Bit Drummer) intersect
狂いそうになる曲だ…😂
そのうち以下2曲をやっているところを見てみたい(*´∀`)
・23時54分、陽の旅路へのプレリュード(かめりあ)
・SuddeИDeath(xi vs. モリモリあつし)
so cool to see VR getting the praise he deserves. been an absolute game changer in bass music for the last decade or so now.
this goes so hard, didn't expect you to cover this one!
its a friggin metronome combined with water noises. so cool
this is such a lovely video, the joy on your face while listening and playing to this is everything
dude can drum to just about anything and it's amazing
Y'know what the song reminds me of?
Rez Infinite. Combined with 8Bit's drums, it's just pure bliss.
Man you really elevated the song to another level

Polyrhythms must be the hardest shit to play on drums
Ever since Virtual Riot dropped this, everyone is going nuts over it.
When an experiment gets really popular :
listening to this while watching an rgb audio visualiser is a trip and a half
Duuuuude this give me such stank face, beyond impressive you stayed on beat
This makes my brain release the funny happy chemical
You like polyrhythms on drums, don't you?
Absolutely knocked it out of the park. Fav part for me is 5:37
I got that videeo in my recommended but never bothered to watch it, now this makes me want to watch it
i can't tell if i like virtual riot's piano roll visuals more or vistanz's spiral visualizer more
my man val going viral, ya love to see it ♥

virtual riot is my all time fav musician. one in a generation. he can redefine any genre he puts his mind to
Pendulum: the song
polyrhythms? he hasn't seen II-L
Loved the song the first time I heard, fainted with the drum cover.
This would throw off my tempo so bad 😣 If not for the beat already in the song.
god i can vibe to the drum part all day. esp high af xD
oh shoot, my best friend literally showed me this exact video like a week ago XD
i love how he covered the donation too at 4:46 !
Awesome thx for making this!! 🔥🙏
I Heard You Like Pokerythms would go hard. If only I knew or had Ableton.
so glad u added drums to this masterpiece
Alr now we need him to play Shatter The Pantheon
I just found the music like a few weeks ago. Nice!
THIS GOES HARDER THAN IT SHOULD WTFFF
Soon, someone will request Levitation 21 just to introduce him about... stuffs.

music and math moment
4:00 mario cart item block :)
5:35 Peter Hoffman says in the YT stream chat "she poly on my rhythm till i get trippy".
i just wanted to point that out
I want a version of this with 8Bit's drumming.
I certainly do!
That was magical
This gives me a huge Touhou vibe for some reason. Old Touhou, not modern.
Old Zun sure did love his crazy piano riffs and scales ❤
This was a cool one to hop into
Virtual riot video on drums????
How do you get pattern changes 100% accurate? Is there a delay so you can hear ahead before playing @ the stream's delay time?
