    Years ago we were fishing in a bay with no luck at all. A local fisherman came into the bay and went screaming back and forth in his boat. The fish were biting like mad after that. He told us you have to wake the fish up.

      lol. Sounds like my uncle when we fish catfish on the rivers in his airboat, he drives in the holes first to wake them up.

    Just received my first parts today to build my own...most of the remaining parts will be here tomorrow.
    I think I will add the remote, I didn't order one when I ordered all the parts. I watched a DYI video after I ordered my stuff where the guy used one. Looks like a must have kind of item!
    My lake hit 53 degrees today so I hope to have mine built in time for my weekly fishing trip.

      You definitely need a remote. You won’t regret it.

      @@BooneBoys I also ordered a transom mount 18lb thrust trolling motor...checked out a couple DYI ideas for a splasher prop.
      The motor and gear box I ordered might be too small. I'm going to hook it to a battery today so I can see if it has enough torque to lift the hammer.
      I liked this motor because I could buy a bracket for it.

      @BooneBoys  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bet the 18lb would work for the splasher. I’d love to see your finished product when your done with it.

      @@BooneBoys I'm thinking to try to shorten the shaft and do a more vertical, permanent type mount. I plan to have some ability to adjust the height if the load in the changes. I will for sure put a rheastat on it so I can get the speed I want...🤞

    Greetings, fellow Oklahoman and father of two boys here. First, love the content and the family-focused fishing. Wish I had found your channel last week before I went to Sooner Lake and watched everyone except myself catch their limit because I had no idea what "deadsticking" even was. Oh well, it's how you learn especially when you're not native and used to this type of fishing.
    I also run a Ranger deep V, a 1989 690C Fisherman I've named Sheila. The wife calls her "The Other Woman", go figure. She may have some age on her and isn't as pretty as yours, but she's got plenty of room to grow. I've already replaced all the ancient electronics with modern Garmin units, and I have a pair of Seahorse Downriggers (Penn Fathom Masters) that'll be going on sometime this winter for spring striper trolling along with a new trolling motor, kicker and carpets as money and time allows. Old boats are good boats, just gotta replace the worn-out bits.
    I'm super curious but at some point could you do a detailed stem to stern walkthrough of your boat? Engines, electronics, downriggers, accessories, thumpers, splashers, everything you use and run and how she's set up and for what. You've done a couple videos about a few things you've added like your rail system, but you haven't really gone into any detail on how you have her outfitted. How we set up boats in the mid-atlantic for fishing (where I'm from originally) is way different than in Oklahoma. I'd love the opportunity to learn if you're able to share.

      @Charles and Christina H Im glad you found our channel and it’s giving you some value. Sounds like you’re pretty well have Sheila set up for catching fish in Oklahoma. Just maybe a splasher and thumper. I’ll try and do a video covering the boat and what we’ve got. We are going to make a few additions coming up, as we invested in a livescope, mainly to find baitfish, but it will be on the passenger console so my dad can get the enjoyment out of using it. I’ve always wanted to go to Sooner lake, mainly because I’ve heard there are some stripers in there like Canton Lake. Did you hear of anybody catch stripers?
      My uncle gave me a downrigger that I’ve got all of the attachments for the rail mount, I just need to put the plug in the gunnel for it.
      P.s. I’m sure my wife has a name for our boat, but just hasn’t told me yet.

      @@BooneBoys appreciate the quick reply! I've been successful on Sooner Lake in the summer trolling umbrella rigs and crankbaits using diving boards like the Deep Six or Dipsy Divers on the northeast end parallel the dam for hybrids, sand bass, white bass and stripers. I was out yesterday thinking I could use the same method for the cold and discovered that I was very, very wrong. A couple local guys suggested I research thumpers and deadsticking, found your channel and you know the rest. Can you link me to your splasher how-to vid? I can't seem to find it.
      Sooner lake is stocked with hybrids and stripers by Fish & Game. Sooner is unique because there's no natural inflow. It's made by pumping water out of the Arkansas river and into the lake. It also has a decent supply of sauger as well as white bass, also caught on the same trolled umbrella rigs and crankbaits. I see a lot of guides out there live-lining shad and they reliably bring in some pretty decent-sized fish.
      I don't suppose with winter slowing down some of the bite have you gotten into the stocked rainbow trout river fishing that Oklahoma does? My home state of Maryland has a similar program (as do many other states). I was out last weekend and bagged my limit of rainbows in very short order. They're no more complicated than a bluegill to catch, they punch well above their weight for the fight and are insanely tasty in the pan.

      I can’t wait to try out Sooner lake. I haven’t ever trout fished here in Oklahoma. The most recent trip I had trout fishing was to Taneycomo, but I’d love to get on some Okie trout. I’ve heard you can get them Deadsticking on Sooner lake this time of year, if you try it out please give us a report on the trip.

    Good stuff. Attach an eye hook on either side of it and strap it down with a bungee. Not only will it stay put, but a tighter connection to the floor will let the sound travel better. If the Wi-Fi is much of a problem, they make some inexpensive 12 volt boosters. I’m planning to get a thumper. Thanks.

    • @BooneBoys
      @BooneBoys  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think your right about the sound traveling better with it secured down. So I contacted the Thumponator guy and he sent me a complete new set the upgraded the wifi supposedly. I haven’t installed it yet, but I will this fall before deadstick starts.

    I may be wrong but your just triggering fish after you get one hooked. I guided on Texoma in the late 70s till early 90s, my dad longer than that. We used to hold a hooked fish down under the boat till we had them triggered. They would follow us for miles sometime. I call BS but whatever I may just be set in my ways. On the other hand about 10 minutes of listening to that damn thing it would be on the bottom on the lake. Thanks

    • @BooneBoys
      @BooneBoys  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know what your talking about, and yes triggering fish does get them going and competing. But there is something about the splasher and thumper that get them going. And keep them under the boat. I’ve seen it where you turn either off and fish leave and turn it on and they stay under boat. When catching fish, it’s funny how you can’t hear anything except feeling that tick tick. I could put up with a lot of racket to have the poles tugging.

      I guess it depends on your boat. But under a closed compartment you don’t really notice it and definitely don’t notice it when reeling in a bunch of fish. The splasher is a lot more noticeable.
