Your collection of recordings are quite frankly astonishing!

Thank you! I was quite a busy lad back in the day. Aircraft came later, and recently uploading to TH-cam has given me the impetus to go out and start filming again, especially handy in getting some of the BR classes that are in their twilight years. Plenty more still to come from the past as well as newer footage.

Used to work in Haringey Park Jtn signalbox in late 70's,so great watching your video. In those days you could stop a freight train and get a lift to Barking (if you missed your passenger train when getting relieved).Of course in BR days lots of practices that today never be allowed!

Yes, it was a different railway back then. I signed the road along here in the 1990s, all freight workings to Dagenham ARC and Purfleet, or perhaps Leyton ballast hole.....

Yet another winning video . Many thanks for posting. The old stadium exit half way along the platforms at Harringay can still be see in the vid nice. There was 3 disused stations in this vid st Annes Rd (the booking office at road level was a sweet shop for years) hornsey rd and juction road . as it is so near to tuffnel park stn on lul there was talk of putting that one back. Just rememberd back in the 70's Mon to Fri the last train into barking went back to criclwood dept as ECS. I used to get a lift back to leytonstone on that after a night in the spotted dog PH nr barking station. oh happy days

Oh! I've been in there in the past, a983 time when i left school. I was still only 17 but i'm tall and looked older than i was! This line backed onto my rear garden so i grew up with trains which probably explains all these vids on TH-cam!

They look like catch points to me. They were used a lot in the days of unfitted freight trains, if wagons broke away and rolled back down an incline they would be de-railed rather than crashing into the train behind. It wasn't a good time to be a freight guard if that happened!!!!

I though a lot had been refurbished although its been a while since i travelled over the line. when i was growing up with this line at the bottom of my garden, the service went to Kentish Town and not Gospel Oak. That bit from Junction Road Junction to Gospel Oak was freight only back then......

Catching an Overground train today from Barking to Gospel Oak is scheduled to take longer (35:00) than it took to watch these three videos (33:32).

@@borderlands6606 Station staff? Apart from Barking and Gospel Oak, there were no station staff! You might have the odd booking clerk on early turn but that was about it! I agree though that the passengers got off quicker, especially as the doors were flung open before the trian had stopped and some were away down the platform before the train had come to a halt, just like in my vid here th-cam.com/video/gornakFpBCM/w-d-xo.html-enjoy!

Wouldn’t part of the overall increase also come from the fact that trains have to wait for the terminating platforms as a result of the 4tph service too? In this video the GPO platform is already clear and there’s no wait but in a number of [more recent] videos/journeys there’s a wait before a train gets in to let the preceding one leave
