This game was so ahead of its time it’s insane. The way players bump and bounce off each other so realistically while running into blocks and even running routes. And the replays are a thing of beauty also very realistic. It’s really a disservice what the NFL did by only licensing EA.
2k wouldn't be perfect, but my money says 2k would produce a FAR better product than the shit madden has been spewing out since 2013.

If you set your sliders up correct and update your roster this game will still run laps around madden 24/7

Damn I honestly have been hearing so much about this game since the whole madden issues. Watching this gameplay reminded me that i owned this game and played the hell out of it as a kid! I didn’t realize which one i owned until i saw the “my crib” and all the memories came flooding back. Thanks for uploading this. I spent tons of time playing this.

Greatest football game ever! I loved how I could unlock everything in five minutes just by entering two cheat codes.

@@b206580 there were classic teams, that you could play with by playing those classic moments, but none of the players had their real names.
@O ab when you create a VIP, enter CribMax and then go to the crib. You should see a video that is a congratulations. Everything in the crib should be unlocked. Afterwords, go to where you manage it, and rename it MadSkilz. Finally, save the progress, go to manage your VIP one more time and rename it to something else. Then you can delete the previous two and still have everything unlocked. Hope this helps. Note: enter the cheats the way I spelled them out here. Good luck.
I love the commentary. The actual use of player names instead of generic comments, like madden, that half the time don't even make sense to what actually occured

2004 was amazing year for sports game, NBA 2K5, MVP Baseball 2005, ESPN 2K5, and Madden 05.
This just proves how bad EA sports has become. A game 16 years ago demolishes this years crap they produced

Still have this. Remember when it came out for only 20 bucks on release to ensure it sold and compete with madden. Still the best football game to date. The detail is why. Halftime shows that review the plays. Weekly sport centers you could watch to see the scores. Berman at the desk. Sideline cutscenes. Was a complete game back in 04! Something the new games say they have to take time to do apparently these days. 🤷🏻♂️ wish 2k would get the nfl license back. Would be interesting to see what they could do with it now.
And the gameplay is much more realistic in 2K8. Too bad Sega sorta killed their own franchise.
did anybody try the new Mod for NFL 2k5 ps2 version? look up NFL 2k23 mods on youtube and there should be a link there somewhere. it basically updates textures for uniforms, stadiums and has new rosters

Both ea and 2k are terrible, if you think they'd make madden any better you're delusional.
look at how NB2K series is slowly being ran into the ground, they would still ruin it today. Its just what games do now, especially when a company has a monopoly on sports license. The only thing we can do is hope theres an underground company that makes a dope game thats inexpensive but hella fun to play.
The best football game ever!!!! Its hard to believe PS5 or Xbox one console still to this day cant touch nfl2k5 and keep in mind it is 2022 lol with that said this game speaks for itself. Everything about this game is amazing!!!!

It’s still wild as hell that this game that came out damn near two decades ago is still the best football to ever come out which says a lot about how bad Madden has been over the years.

Amazing how the Refs move when the ball comes his way an he turns when play goes pass him . Light years ahead of Madden to this today.

This wasn't ahead of its time. The sports games these days are just absolutely pathetic and utter garbage. Nothing to take away from 2K5 because it's still the best game out there. Axis Football had a direction but it seems they are falling to the same victim as EA- lazy money grabbing.

picked this up for $5 at a used games store recently. this was an amazing year for football games - madden 05 is arguably the best that series has ever been, too. but the presentation in 2K5 is still better than most modern sports games, somehow, and the arcadey gameplay is still great fun today, barely feels dated. plus, it was only $20 when it released! just an all-time classic.
As an Eagles fan watching this its more entertaining than the real thing go birds

1994-2011 In my opinion was the golden age of gaming in my opinion
I say 1992-2002 golden age. Platinum age 2003-2013. 2014 is when it went all downhill SJW, no new ideas and invitations, GTA Online Shark Cards, Call Of Duty skill based match making and Battle Pass, NBA 2k VC points all money grabs and making you sweat and work more harder then Amazon.
Back in the day when plays and coverages weren’t bugged. And commentary wasn’t painful to listen to.

The movements are so much more fluid and natural-looking than the jarring, robotic movements that Madden still has to this day in Madden NFL 22. 17 years you've had to get it right, EA, yet you refuse. The same animatronic and foosball-type movements as ever. The movements, the hits, and throwing, the running, everything felt more natural and lifelike in ESPN NFL 2K5. This game engine remains superior to Madden.

I actually enjoyed this game, on my PS2. Especially when this game supported the PS2 HDD.
My dad bought me this for my birthday, I still thank him for that today and he has no idea what I’m talking about 😂

You can see the Jumbotron accurately displaying the field, refs, half time show showing the correct plays with detailed description of the play break down & naming the players, the fans, every thing about this is way ahead of its time. NFL did gamers a disservice only licensing with Madden
The adlib commentary is so much better than madden makes it more real
I love playing as the Raiders in this game, especially with Warren Sapp on defense. Sapp was a QB Sack Machine in this game. Miss it so much.
Kenard Lang was a beast in a browns franchise mode I was playing. He almost broke the irl single-game sack record in a game vs the Steelers lmao.
The raiders are tough to play against in this game man they was beasty

Despite the horrible play by the user, this gameplay and presentation is second to none. First play of the game you see a branching gang tackle - something you very rarely see in Madden 21 PS4/5.

the passing was very hard and the running would get my thumb tired X( but it was a good game even though i didn't like the stiff running and horrible A.I reactions on passes and runs but it worked somehow... if one thing would take out .. it would be tapping the run button all the time, instead just hold it

All pro football 2k8 polished this games physics. It has the best gameplay in any football game anywhere. It just sucks because it didn’t have an nfl license because of ea.

i love that they made the game 20$ to try and overtake ea, what makes it even funnier is that ea had such a temper tantrum of almost being outdone they flat out said fuck u and signed a deal with the nfl to make them the exclusive developer for games
I still play this on the original XBox but never could understand why the halftime show on the PS2 doesn't have full video plays showing the first half of the game instead of still pictures...
PS2 version also has full video plays at halftime however you needed the HDD unit installed. most ps2 owners never bought the hdd. I had one and always had full video..but still no custom music on ps2 version :/
