Oh boy the 1980s is probably my favorite decade of films. So this was extremely difficult but here we are and horable Mentions included. 1980: the empire strikes Back 1981: Clash of the titans Honorable Mention: raiders of the lost ark. 1982: Star Trek 2 the wrath of Kahn(my personal favorite Star Trek movie) honorable mentions: first blood, E.T. The Thing, and the Secret of Nihm. 1983: return of the Jedi. 1984: the terminator. Honorable mention: the gremlins 1985: back to the future 1986: Aliens. Honorable mention: Labyrinth(rest in peace David Bowie) Castle in the sky(my personal favorite Studio Ghibli film) 1987: the princess bride (personally my favorite movie of all time). Honorable mentions: robocop, dirty dancing, Spaceballs, and Predator 1988 Who Franed Roger Rabbit. Honorable mentions: The Land before Time, and Die hard 1989 the little Mermaid. Honorable mentions: license to kill, Batman, The Last Crusade(my personal favorite Indiana Jones movie).
@@cobwebschannel thanks and it’s one of my favorite harryhausin films and it was his last film before he retired so not a bad film to end his career on.
80 Empire Strikes Back 81 Das Boot 82 The Thing 83 Return Of The Jedi 84 Once Upon A Time In America 85 Witness 86 Aliens 87 The Untouchables 88 Mississippi Burning 89 Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade
Most of these could change in an hour as the 80s was my time Friday the 13th (1980) Blow Out (1981) Blade Runner (1982) Return of the Jedi (1983) The Karate Kid (1984) Fright Night (1985) Stand by Me (1986) The Witched of Eastwick (1987) Throw Mama From the Train (1988) The Burbs (1989)
Oh boy...the 1980s...I get the feeling my No.1s of this year are even more obvious than my 1970s picks. 1980 - The Empire Strikes Back. (pretty ballsy going for 'The Fog' there, Daniel. I don't think that would even make my John Carpenter Top 5). 1981 - Raiders of the Lost Ark (edging out 'An American Werewolf in London' for my most-watched and fave film of this year). 1982 - E.T. and The Thing have to battle it out for this year. 1983 - Return of the Jedi. Yeah, I could be 'cooler' and say something else but nope, it's this. I'm also going to throw some much needed love to 'Superman III' - which I really enjoy. 1984 - Am I allowed a six-way tie? Because 1984 is like THE 80s year for me. You've got Ghostbusters, Temple of Doom, Gremlins, The Karate Kid, Beverly Hills Cop and The Terminator. Hmm...maybe I should throw them all out and go for The Ice Pirates' instead. 1985 - Back to the Future. No competition, really. 1986 - Aliens. The only film that, in my mind, dethroned 'Star Wars' as my very Favourite film for a short while there. A respectful, kick-ass and and genuinely thrilling sequel. (Big Trouble in Little China and Stand by Me get huge honourable mentions - and a whole LOAD films I love just behind them. 1987 - The Lost Boys (or Robocop?). The Lost Boys was MY vampire film, and seeing it first is why I never took to Fright Night like you clearly have. I do really, really like Fright Night though. 1988 - Die Hard. Although, if I put the shades on, my favourite of this year is 'They Live'. Really enjoy Killer Klowns form Outer Space, The Blob and Willow, too. 1989 - The Abyss (Special Edition). James Cameron 80s trilogy (yeah, no-one's counting Piranha 2) finishes on a fantastic high. (sorry Tango & Cash).
Awesome choices, Daniel! So much great stuff to choose from in the 80’s! Here’s my list: 1. The Empire Strikes Back (1980) 2. Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) 3. The Thing (1982) 4. Scarface (1983) 5. The Terminator (1984) 6. Back to the Future (1985) 7. Aliens (1986) 8. Predator (1987) 9. Big (1988) 10. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989)
I was born in the '80s, so my favorites of the decade are the most skewed by memories! Spielberg and Lucas were my childhood. 1980 The Empire Strikes Back 1981 A Town Like Alice/Raiders of the Lost Ark 1982 E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, Honorable mention: The Thing, Blade Runner, The Wrath of Khan 1983 The Return of the Jedi 1984 Silverado/The Neverending Story 1985 Ladyhawke/Back to the Future 1986 A Room With a View, Honorable mention: Stand by Me, Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home 1987 The Princess Bride, HM: Babette's Feast 1988 Willow/Die Hard 1989 Dead Poets Society/Field of Dreams
My personal favorites: 1980: The Fog, The Elephant Man, The Empire Strikes Back 1981: Superman II 1982: E.T. 1983: The Right Stuff, Trading Places, Return of the Jedi 1984: Amadeus, Places in the Heart, Romancing the Stone 1985: The Color Purple 1986: Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, The Fly 1987: The Princess Bride 1988: Who Framed Roger Rabbit? 1989: Dead Poets Society, The Little Mermaid
Born in 1974, so my childhood is thoroughly steeped in 80’s with a bit of late 70’s and high school having the first few years of the 90’s. So! Being an actual child of the 80’s, and living it full-force….when I think of the 80s I do NOT think of “the 1980’s” (1980-1989). I think of both now and, more importantly, then: “The 80’s!”. That is 1982-1985. THAT’S “The 80’s!”. 😁 The Last Starfighter. Buckaroo Banzai. Friday the 13 The Final Chapter. 2010: The Year We Made Contact. Metalstorm: The Desruction of Jaryd-Syn. Megaforce. Commando. Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone. Psycho II. Cujo. Silver Bullet. The Bride. Firestarter. The Soldier. First Blood. The Falcon and the Snowman. Wavelength. The new Twilight Zone! Red Dawn. The Terminator. The Right Stuff. New Wave Hookers….oh…wait…sorry. LOL! Cheers! ❤️😁
1980: Raging Bull 1981: Mrs. 45 / L'Ange De La Vengeance 1982: The Thing 1983: (not ready to commit here) 1984: Footloose 1985: Come and See 1986: Round Midnight 1987: Can't Buy Me Love 1988: Dirty Rotten Scoundrels 1989: Hear No Evil, See No Evil
@@cobwebschannelIndeed, Can't Buy Me Love is such a great movie--under appreciated among the coming-of-age films of the era. That said: Footloose is the absolute best coming-of-age film of the decade (bold statement, I know), and I will die on that hill. I think that the complexity between Dianne Wiest's character (Vi Moore) and John Lithgow's character (Rev. Shaw Moore) is over-and-above other films of its class, and you can see them working against the same cultural concepts of right and wrong as Kevin Bacon's character. (Wiest's performance in this film is unbelievably good.) And who can forget Lithgow's quote: If we don't start trusting our children... how will they ever become trustworthy? Absolutely, brilliant.
I'm on board with your desire to branch out to all era's of movies. I love movies of all kinds, from classics to today. The 80's had a lot of great movies. Not going to list everything but a few faves are Die Hard ( most definitely a Xmas movie though I have now added Violent Night to that list). The Thing, The Burbs, Fright Night, Batman, Predator, Wrath of Khan. The list is endless.
1980 - The Shining 1981 - Raiders of the Lost Ark 1982 - The Thing 1983 - Scarface - Return of the Jedi 1984 - Terminator - Temple of Doom - Dune 1985 - Lifeforce 1986 - Aliens 1987 - Robocop 1988 - The Blob 1989 - The Abyss
I was born in '77, so I was an 80s kid, but I still have only seen an average of 39 movies for each year of the decade and I'm not much into 80s horror. Only one among my favorites, which are otherwise mostly unsurprising. 80: The Empire Strikes Back 81: Raiders of the Lost Ark 82: Annie 83: The Right Stuff 84: Paris, Texas 85: Back to the Future 86: Aliens 87: The Princess Bride 88: Die Hard 89: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
1980 - Airplane, but I do also greatly enjoy Caddyshack 1981 - American Werewolf in London 1982 - The Thing 1983 - Strange Brew 1984 - (hardest year to pick just one) Beverly Hills Cop, The Last Starfighter is also solid 1985 - Clue, close 2nd: Return of the Living Dead.... Fright Night slaps! 1986 - Aliens, with special mention of Manhunter 1987 - Lethal Weapon, tho also A Nightmare on Elm Street 3, Robocop is excellent as well, and Monster Squad 1988 - Die Hard and Who Framed Roger Rabbit, special mention to Naked Gun 1989 - UHF, tho I do love Batman, Last Crusade, and Lethal Weapon 2, and special mention to Intruder Do you watch any of the 1930s-50s serials? They're fun. They're definitely low budget, but they've got some funny doofy charm. There are some gems in there: Flash Gordon, my personal favorite Rocket Man, and the 40s Batman serials
Love this list, thanks for sharing! And I’ve dipped into serials a little. I watched the Superman serial and really enjoyed it. I also tried some of Spy Smasher, because it was a particular influence on Indiana Jones. But I should watch more. Thanks for those recs!
@@cobwebschannel Spy Smasher is a fun one. There are a couple Zorro based ones that are fun, tho some of the later ones get a little samey due to decreasing budgets/reusing footage. The Masked Marvel is a fun one, and the 1941 Captain America is fascinating ha
80 - Empire Strikes Back 81 - Raiders of the Lost Ark 82 - Rambo: First Blood 83 - Trading Places 84 - Ghostbusters, The Karate Kid, Terminator, Beverly Hills Cop, Nightmare on Elm Street, Revenge of the Nerds, Neverending Story, Gremlins (how the hell do you pick from this year!?!?) 85 - Back to the Future 86 - Top Guns, Aliens 87 - Predator, The Lost Boys 88 - Die Hard 89 - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
1980: My Bodyguard. 1981: Raiders of the Lost Ark. 1982: ET. 1983: Return of the Jedi. 1984: A Soldier’s Story. 1985: Back to the Future. 1986: Stand By Me. 1987: The Last Emperor. 1988: Rain Man. 1989: Field of Dreams.
boy! did I see a lot of movies in the '80s! ... they were still only 2 or 3 bucks a ticket, depending on what time you went ... there was no internet yet, Blockbuster wasn't in full swing until the late '80s and the multiplex was the place to be! Here were a few of my faves: 1980 - My Bodyguard, Ordinary People 1981 - Reds, Mad Max 2: Road Warrior 1982- Fitzcarraldo, Tootsie 1983 - Tender Mercies, L'Argent 1984 - Choose Me, Paris,Texas 1985 - After Hours, Mad Max 3: Thunderdome 1986 - Blue Velvet, Peggy Sue Got Married 1987 - The Dead, Radio Days, Moonstruck 1988 - Beetlejuice, Crossing Delancey, The Moderns 1989 - Slaves of New York, Drugstore Cowboy
"Raiders" is a perfect movie, and it remains my favorite John Williams score, as well. Rewatch the truck chase, towards the end, and marvel at how the orchestra gets faster and faster as the scene progresses. Also, Karen Allen as Marian is PEERLESS among 80s heroines (with the notable exception of Sigourney Weaver).
The etymology of "cobwebs" is interesting. I wouldn't worry too much about your ability to successfully pivot from one use of the word (ergo: one audience) to the other. After all, the right intro can resolve this easily (e.g.: "Cobwebs" is all things retro in film).
Putting this out before I watch the video. 1980: The Empire Strikes Back. 1981: Raiders of the Lost Ark (my #2 all time favorite). 1982: (tie) Blade Runner. Poltergeist. 1983: Return of the Jedi. 1984: A Soldier's Story. 1985: Witness. 1986: Broadcast News. 1987: Fatal Attraction. 1988: Mississippi Burning. 1989: Driving Miss Daisy.
Good to see Fright Night getting some love. What bothers me, however, is how little love the sequel usually gets. Some don't even know about it, and many who dig Fright Night haven't seen it because they were turned off by the meh reviews. (John Carpenter's The Thing can tell us a thing or two about critics being way off across the board.) I loved the original, so I went to the cinema with high expectations and ended up loving the sequel even more, which is why I went two more times because I just couldn't get enough. Definitely my pick for the 1989 slot. If you haven't watched it (or maybe just once years ago), give it another shot!
Mine are 1980-The Shining 1981-Body Heat 1982-John Carpenter's The Thing 1983-Scarface 1984-This Is Spinal Tap 1985-Fletch 1986-Aliens 1987-Hellraiser 1988-Hellbound Hellraiser 2 1989-Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure Runnerups 1980-Caddyshack, Airplane 1981-Raiders Of The Lost Ark, The Evil Dead 1982-The Verdict, Fast Times At Ridgemont High, 48 HRS 1983-The King Of Comedy 1984-The Natural, Nightmare On Elm St., The Terminator 1985-Silverado, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, The Breakfast Club 1986-Hoosiers, Blue Velvet 1987-Predator, The Lost Boys 1988-Bull Durham, They Live 1989-Road House, Batman

Enjoying your channel upon random discovery tonight…but…man! It’s “adAPTAtion” not ‘adaption’! 😁 (Also…solace is pronounced ‘sahlice’ not ‘soulice’. Also…Ray Milahnd not MilAND. 🙂) Thanks for your awesome content! Cheers!

Yes! 90s will be coming soon. I’m considering doing both 00s and 10s in one video, since the modern decades fit the theme of my channel less. But I’m still thinking about it.
1980: The Empire Strikes Back 1981: Raiders Of The Lost Ark 1982: The Wrath Of Khan 1983: Return Of The Jedi 1984: The Terminator 1985: Back To The Future 1986: Aliens 1987: The Princess Bride 1988: Die Hard 1989: Say Anything

Some say decades go from 1 to 10, not 0 to 9, which would make 1980 the '70s and 1990 the '90s, so I'm including 1980 (my birth year) and 1990 just in case. Btw, Dana Scully mentions that in an episode of '90s X-Files. 1980: The Empire Strikes Back 1981: Heavy Metal 1982: Conan the Barbarian 1983: The Deadly Spawn 1984: Red Dawn 1985: Re-Animator 1986: Aliens 1987: Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn 1988: Killer Klowns from Outer Space 1989: Leviathan 1990: Endless Descent (aka 'The Rift')

1989 The ‘Burbs 1988 Vampire’s Kiss 1987 Predator 1986 Top Gun 1985 First Blood Part II 1984 Gremlins 1983 Deathstalker 1982 First Blood 1981 Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark 1980 Star Wars Empire Strikes Back
The Elephant Man Raiders of the Lost Ark The Thing The Dead Zone Body Double The Breakfast Club Aliens RoboCop Die Hard Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
There was ALWAYS something good on the radio, on tv, and at the theater. Primarily because creative people either acted for themselves or for the audience. NOBODY did anything for the critics. And that's why you CAN'T get anything decent made today. EVERYTHING is made with a dread of the possibility of being mocked by somebody. And the results speak for themselves.
I do love some modern movies, but I still know where you’re coming from. Many movies do seem built in fear of internet mockery. It’s taking sincerity away from things.
My Favorite Film from Every Year of the 1980s : The Empire Strikes Back (1980) Day of the Dead (1985) Mad Max 2 (1981) The Hitcher (1986) Blade Runner (1982) Predator (1987) Videodrome (1983) Midnight Run (1988) The Terminator (1984) The Killer (1989)
The 80's were a pretty terrible decade for 'popular' movies to be honest. Not that I'm trying to be a snob, just everyone always picks the same stuff, and its all so juvenile and trite, and basic in every way. People don't tend to explore beyond whatever crap they grew up on, or whatever else in the world (which, to be honest, I thought the 80's were for the most part a better decade for foreign movies than American). Whatever. Here's my crap: 1989: Tetsuo: The Iron Man H.M. Do The Right Thing The Cook, The Thief, His Wife And Her Lover 1988: Landscape In The Mist 1987: Wings Of Desire 1986: Down By Law H.M. Stand By Me 1985: Ran H.M. Come And See, Shoah 1984: Paris, Texas H.M. Stranger Than Paradise 1983: [Nothing I Like, Garbage Year] 1982: Blade Runner 1981: Heavy Metal 1980: [Nothing I Like, Garbage Year]
1980 THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK 1981 RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK 1982 E.T. 1983 RETURN OF THE JEDI 1984 GHOSTBUSTERS 1985 BACK TO THE FUTURE 1986 STAND BY ME 1987 PREDATOR 1988 DIE HARD 1989 BATMAN Pretty predictable list for an 80s kid.
My favourite movie decades, maybe because I was born in 1980, i don't know. My favourites are: 80 Airplane! 81 Halloween 2 82 48 Hours (Death Wish 2 is close behind) 83 Octopussy 84 Beverly Hills Cop (i also really love Police Academy, Star Trek 3: The Search for Spock, and A Nightmare On Elm Street) 85 Death Wish 3 86 Ruthless People 87 Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol ( but amongst the many i love is A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors) 88 Die Hard (I also really love A Fish Called Wanda, and Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers) 89 Lethal Weapon 2 (Batman deserves an honourable mention).
Brilliant list! Mine is: 1980: Empire Strikes Back, 1981: Raiders of the Lost Ark, 1982: The Thing, 1983: Krull, 1984: Romancing the Stone, 1985: Back to the Future, 1986: Highlander, 1986: Wall Street, 1988: Beetlejuice, 1989: Roadhouse. Special shout out to: The Fog! I can't wait to spend a week in Point Reyes Station, CA (filming location from the Fog) and check out this Lighthouse this coming October!
My Top list for the 1980s(including winner and runners up for each year):- 1980: Winner: The Fog(Runner Ups: Saturn 3 and Airplane), 1981: Winner: Raiders Of The Lost Ark(Runners Up: The Howling, Pirahna II: The Spawning and The Monster Club), 1982: Winner: Halloween III: Season Of The Witch(Runners Up: Poltergeist, Amityville II: The Possession and Star Trek II: Wrath Of Khan), 1983: Winner: Wargames(Runners Up: Jaws 3, The Man With Two Brains and Trading Places), 1984: Winner: Gremlins(Runners Up: A Nightmare On Elm Street, Invitation To Hell and Dreamscape), 1985: Winner: Enemy Mine(Runners Up: Back To The Future, Once Bitten and Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment), 1986: Winner: Crocodile Dundee(Runners Up: The Wraith, Big Trouble In Little China and Trick Or Treat), 1987: Winner: The Lost Boys(Runners Up: The Lamp, Evil Dead II and Prince Of Darkness), 1988: Winner:The Serpent And The Rainbow(Runners Up: Night Of The Demons, Lair Of The White Worm and Who Framed Roger Rabbit) and finally: 1989: Winner: DeepStar Six(Runners Up: The War Of The Roses, Shocker and Pet Sematary)

Shout out to The Fog and The Burbs!!!!!! 😍. Thank you for your hard work Daniel (we share the same name), I found your channel 3 days ago and I am on a rampage to watch them all!!! ❤
The late seventies thru the late eighties was my generation (X). But Gen X also grew up watching Nightmare Theater and Elvira.
The Fog is my favorite of all Carpenter’s movies. And please, you forgot Adrianne Barbeau
New subscriber looking at your older stuff. Thanks for the list - I love lists, especially justified by great commentary.
1980 - Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back
1981 - Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark
1982 - ET: the Extraterrestial
1983 - The Dresser
1984 - Romancing the Stone
1985 - Clue
1986 - Stand By Me
1987 - The Monster Squad
1988 - The Naked Gun
1989 - Batman
Wow what an amazing channel
This was so so hard for me. I was 7 years old in 1980 . I’ve lived in Brooklyn NY all my life. My father owned a shop near Times Square. So between those glorious movie palaces of yesteryear’s and the fun grindhouse theaters of 42nd Street I practically grew up in and around those theaters ( the beautiful marquees and lobby cards and trailers playing outside and the movie souvenir programs)
Ahhh what memories. Here goes
1980 Empire Strikes Back
1981 Raiders Of The Lost Ark
1982 E.T / Wrath Of Khan (both made me cry)
1983 Return Of The Jedi
1984 Temple Of Doom
1985 Back to the Future/ Day of the Dead (both hold very special memories for me)
1986 Stand By Me
1987 Predator
1988 Cinema Paradiso ( a love letter to film )
1989 Parenthood/ The Last Crusade
Very nice of you to say, thank you! Great list. It’s awesome to see Temple of Doom get some love. That one is right behind Raiders for me.
I LOVE "Cinema Paradiso." Such a beautiful film
You mentioned Something Wild, and I really think you need to see (if you haven't already)1985's After Hours with Griffin Dunne and the best ensemble cast ever.
Love After Hours, and have done a dedicated video on it!
I love you so much for picking The Fog.

Clash of the Titans is such a cool choice!
@@cobwebschannel thanks and it’s one of my favorite harryhausin films and it was his last film before he retired so not a bad film to end his career on.
LOVE “The ‘Burbs”!
So good!
80 Empire Strikes Back
81 Das Boot
82 The Thing
83 Return Of The Jedi
84 Once Upon A Time In America
85 Witness
86 Aliens
87 The Untouchables
88 Mississippi Burning
89 Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade
Witness is a really cool pick!
@@cobwebschannel I don't think I noticed it on anyone else's list. Always been a big fan of it.
Most of these could change in an hour as the 80s was my time
Friday the 13th (1980)
Blow Out (1981)
Blade Runner (1982)
Return of the Jedi (1983)
The Karate Kid (1984)
Fright Night (1985)
Stand by Me (1986)
The Witched of Eastwick (1987)
Throw Mama From the Train (1988)
The Burbs (1989)
Here’s my list:
1. The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
2. Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
3. The Thing (1982)
4. Scarface (1983)
5. The Terminator (1984)
6. Back to the Future (1985)
7. Aliens (1986)
8. Predator (1987)
9. Big (1988)
10. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989)
Thank you! Love to see Predator take ‘87 for you. 🤘🏼
I was born in the '80s, so my favorites of the decade are the most skewed by memories! Spielberg and Lucas were my childhood.
1980 The Empire Strikes Back
1981 A Town Like Alice/Raiders of the Lost Ark
1982 E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, Honorable mention: The Thing, Blade Runner, The Wrath of Khan
1983 The Return of the Jedi

1986 A Room With a View, Honorable mention: Stand by Me, Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home
1987 The Princess Bride, HM: Babette's Feast

1983: The Right Stuff, Trading Places, Return of the Jedi
1984: Amadeus, Places in the Heart, Romancing the Stone
1985: The Color Purple
1986: Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, The Fly
1987: The Princess Bride
1988: Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
1989: Dead Poets Society, The Little Mermaid
Born in 1974, so my childhood is thoroughly steeped in 80’s with a bit of late 70’s and high school having the first few years of the 90’s.
So! Being an actual child of the 80’s, and living it full-force….when I think of the 80s I do NOT think of “the 1980’s” (1980-1989).
I think of both now and, more importantly, then: “The 80’s!”.
That is 1982-1985. THAT’S “The 80’s!”. 😁
The Last Starfighter. Buckaroo Banzai. Friday the 13 The Final Chapter. 2010: The Year We Made Contact. Metalstorm: The Desruction of Jaryd-Syn. Megaforce. Commando. Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone. Psycho II. Cujo. Silver Bullet. The Bride. Firestarter. The Soldier. First Blood. The Falcon and the Snowman. Wavelength. The new Twilight Zone! Red Dawn. The Terminator. The Right Stuff. New Wave Hookers….oh…wait…sorry. LOL!
Cheers! ❤️😁
As the girls agreed in Scream 6, Pyscho 2 is underrated. I love it, but it's still my still my 3rd favourite after Psycho 3, and the original.
1980: Raging Bull
1981: Mrs. 45 / L'Ange De La Vengeance
1982: The Thing
1983: (not ready to commit here)
1984: Footloose
1985: Come and See
1986: Round Midnight
1987: Can't Buy Me Love
1988: Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
1989: Hear No Evil, See No Evil
Love that you chose Can’t Buy Me Love! Such a fun movie.
@@MrBlaineH You’re inspiring me to rewatch Footloose, which I haven’t seen in maaaany years.
@@cobwebschannel Daniel: Do it.
Thank you much! Your encouragement is always much appreciated.
1980 - The Shining
1981 - Raiders of the Lost Ark
1982 - The Thing
1983 - Scarface - Return of the Jedi
1984 - Terminator - Temple of Doom - Dune
1985 - Lifeforce
1986 - Aliens
1987 - Robocop
1988 - The Blob
1989 - The Abyss
Lifeforce is a good movie but Enemy Mine was my choice for that year.
I was born in '77, so I was an 80s kid, but I still have only seen an average of 39 movies for each year of the decade and I'm not much into 80s horror. Only one among my favorites, which are otherwise mostly unsurprising.
80: The Empire Strikes Back
81: Raiders of the Lost Ark
82: Annie
83: The Right Stuff
84: Paris, Texas
85: Back to the Future
86: Aliens
87: The Princess Bride
88: Die Hard
89: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Great choices! I do still needs to see Paris Texas, I’ve heard fantastic things about it.
1980 - Airplane, but I do also greatly enjoy Caddyshack
1981 - American Werewolf in London
1982 - The Thing
1983 - Strange Brew
1984 - (hardest year to pick just one) Beverly Hills Cop, The Last Starfighter is also solid
1985 - Clue, close 2nd: Return of the Living Dead.... Fright Night slaps!
1986 - Aliens, with special mention of Manhunter
1987 - Lethal Weapon, tho also A Nightmare on Elm Street 3, Robocop is excellent as well, and Monster Squad
1988 - Die Hard and Who Framed Roger Rabbit, special mention to Naked Gun
1989 - UHF, tho I do love Batman, Last Crusade, and Lethal Weapon 2, and special mention to Intruder
Do you watch any of the 1930s-50s serials?
Robocop is one of my favorite movies as well I have it on DVD and Blu-ray we need a 4k of that movie
Arrow actually did a 4K! I just haven’t bought it yet.
80 - Empire Strikes Back
81 - Raiders of the Lost Ark
82 - Rambo: First Blood
83 - Trading Places
84 - Ghostbusters, The Karate Kid, Terminator, Beverly Hills Cop, Nightmare on Elm Street, Revenge of the Nerds, Neverending Story, Gremlins (how the hell do you pick from this year!?!?)
85 - Back to the Future
86 - Top Guns, Aliens
87 - Predator, The Lost Boys
88 - Die Hard
89 - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Jeez, the 80s was stacked! I could make videos on every single movie you mentioned here!
For sure!!
Heck given how many iconic classics came out I think a top ten list of each year from the 80s would include a lot of things in pop culture today.
I grew up with Robocop.
I'll buy that for a dollar!
I love Shatner.
Here were a few of my faves:
1980 - My Bodyguard, Ordinary People
1981 - Reds, Mad Max 2: Road Warrior
1982- Fitzcarraldo, Tootsie
1983 - Tender Mercies, L'Argent
1984 - Choose Me, Paris,Texas
1985 - After Hours, Mad Max 3: Thunderdome
1986 - Blue Velvet, Peggy Sue Got Married
1987 - The Dead, Radio Days, Moonstruck
1988 - Beetlejuice, Crossing Delancey, The Moderns
1989 - Slaves of New York, Drugstore Cowboy
Oh heck yeah, After Hours is a great choice.
"Raiders" is a perfect movie, and it remains my favorite John Williams score, as well. Rewatch the truck chase, towards the end, and marvel at how the orchestra gets faster and faster as the scene progresses. Also, Karen Allen as Marian is PEERLESS among 80s heroines (with the notable exception of Sigourney Weaver).
the burbs is the best!!
Absolutely!
The etymology of "cobwebs" is interesting. I wouldn't worry too much about your ability to successfully pivot from one use of the word (ergo: one audience) to the other. After all, the right intro can resolve this easily (e.g.: "Cobwebs" is all things retro in film).
Awesome, I appreciate you saying so!
Putting this out before I watch the video. 1980: The Empire Strikes Back. 1981: Raiders of the Lost Ark (my #2 all time favorite). 1982: (tie) Blade Runner. Poltergeist. 1983: Return of the Jedi. 1984: A Soldier's Story. 1985: Witness. 1986: Broadcast News. 1987: Fatal Attraction. 1988: Mississippi Burning. 1989: Driving Miss Daisy.
@@WilliamLyons-ym7ee yeah, Driving Miss Daisy. And I'm not apologizing for it, either.
I like Fright Night 2, but it’s nowhere near the first one for me.

Some say decades go from 1 to 10, not 0 to 9, which would make 1980 the '70s and 1990 the '90s, so I'm including 1980 (my birth year) and 1990 just in case. Btw, Dana Scully mentions that in an episode of '90s X-Files.

My Favorite Film from Every Year of the 1980s :
The Empire Strikes Back (1980) Day of the Dead (1985)
Mad Max 2 (1981) The Hitcher (1986)
Blade Runner (1982) Predator (1987)
Videodrome (1983) Midnight Run (1988)
The Terminator (1984) The Killer (1989)
The 80's were a pretty terrible decade for 'popular' movies to be honest. Not that I'm trying to be a snob, just everyone always picks the same stuff, and its all so juvenile and trite, and basic in every way. People don't tend to explore beyond whatever crap they grew up on, or whatever else in the world (which, to be honest, I thought the 80's were for the most part a better decade for foreign movies than American).
Whatever. Here's my crap:
1989: Tetsuo: The Iron Man

1988: Landscape In The Mist
1987: Wings Of Desire
1986: Down By Law

H.M. Stranger Than Paradise
1983: [Nothing I Like, Garbage Year]
1982: Blade Runner
1981: Heavy Metal
1980: [Nothing I Like, Garbage Year]
Kind of sad this will probably get at least twice as many views as all your other videos combined.
