    Thanks Dr. Boz and Jennifer, this is very informative. I started the Keto diet this past Sunday and I am feeling the deference. I am now eating once a day averaging 18 to 22 hours between my meals. No hunger yet lol. I do appreciate your time you are putting into getting the info out to the world.

    When I’m highly stressed I get kicked out of Ketosis, but I (rightly or wrongly??) try to counteract the effects by lowering < fats (a little) & increasing > protein, so as to try & preserve muscle mass from being catabolised into sugar.
    Kinda of a more Atkins style of eating (considering it’s said that Atkins is higher protein than Keto).
    So if I’m eating 80g of protein & 160g of fat on Keto, I’ll up it to 140g of protein & lower fats to 140g when highly stressed out. Equal levels of fat to protein being most optional for me during this time & it also kills hunger dead during “time of the month” or when ever cravings tries to raise it’s head.
    I think anyone experiencing cravings should actually, probably up their protein to match their fats!

    Dr. Boz, not sure if you have done a video on shift workers but I work a rotating shift. I work days (5am-5pm) a day off then work nights (5pm-5am). Been on the Keto diet (after being diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes) for about 3 months. I took metaformin for a month and decided to get serious and quite taking it. I watch my blood glucose religiously everyday and continously through out the day. Since then I have not had a glucose reading above 140. This is only after eating. Mainly it stays between 90 - 110. Sorry I don't know about my ketones. Going to order the combo keto-glucose meter very soon. I have noticed when I start working nights that I plateaued and I have not gained weight or lost weight. Glucose stays a little higher and I assume it is due to my sleep pattern. I will be off for the next few weeks so this plateau should subside. Also, I do bullet proof coffee every morning (or when I get up) and I try to 24 hr fast most days then go to a 16hr a few days a week. I would like for you to pass this on to your other viewers that work shift work that you can do the Keto diet. Just make sure you get enough sleep and monitor your glucose regularly. Fasting is a must. Thanks for all your videos and guidance. It has made a difference in my life. I am age 50 and fell like 30 again.

I did not know where was coming from I went to the dentist for a regular checkup and I had an infected root canal and god-knows-how-long. I have extended my fasting time 6:00 pm - 12::00 noon or later. I think I am very insulin resistant. I am cutting out sweeteners in case I was getting an insulin response from those. I was using Splenda in tea and coffee and I have stopped that so I hope to see some better blood sugars.

    People underestimate the power of stress and sleeplessness. Our bodies can cope with it for awhile but eventually it will show up in physical signs. I always told this to my mother in law because she went to bed 5 am and slept until noon or 1pm. She did this for a long time. With other stress she ended up with a heart attack and after a 14 years medical problem she died last November. I also noticed that when I'm under more stress than usual I gain weight. No matter how good I keep my keto diet. The cortisol takes over and it's so hard to bring it down.

      Are you overweight and if so, how much? Since you just started only about 6 days ago, it is even likely that you are just starting to shift into being keto-adapted. As Dr. Boz has explained, it takes time for your liver to begin producing ketones and for the mitochondria in your various types of cells to actually start using ketones.
      I strongly suggest that you go to: th-cam.com/video/dVPcfJlM7Ao/w-d-xo.html
      This is a large set of videos but this link takes you to the first of 3 important videos explaining the process involved in becoming keto adapted. I don't think that anyone in the world has done as good a job of explaining this process as did Dr. Bozworth.
      Also, since you are new to this, you might want to consider exogenous ketones (her own brand is probably the best and can be purchased on Amazon). Exogenous ketones are good to keep around. They can be a great help when first starting out. They are also very helpful for those times where you really 'go off the wagon' like after a family meal type celebration to get back into nutritional ketosis quickly.

    You mentioned concept of Intermittent Fasting that I had not heard before regarding the "morning reset". I have intermittently fasted by dropping breakfast. I was fasting from about 6 PM until noon. My understanding is that I should change that to eating when I get up around 6:30 AM until 1 PM.
    Is that as important as you made it sound, or does the time of the 6 hour fast that crucial?
    Thanks.

      If I read what you wrote correctly, you are not eating after 6pm, right? Your first meal is at noon? If so, then you are fasting for 18 hrs every day. I suggest that what you doing is not only good, but outstanding for a daily routine (presuming that you don't go to bed before 9pm.
      You last sentence however, confuses me because you said "...time of the 6 hour fast..."
      Essentially, a 6 hour fast is not a fast at all. Even fasting for 12 hrs is rather skimpy. If you don't eat for 14 continuous hours every day then your fast is OK. The only other factor that is important is that you start your fast early enough before going to bed that you will have processed the food from the last meal before going to sleep.
      If you eat just before retiring for the night, then your body spends hours using your metabolic energy processing food instead of working on repair.
      Many people end up doing OMD (One Meal a Day) when keto adapted. It is typical that this will happen for people without even planning for it. I know that the first time I "went Keto" within about a month I realized that I was only eating OMD. I just was not hungry enough to eat more often.

    • @stevetempleton9092
      @stevetempleton9092 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My bad. I mistyped... not 6 hour fast, but 6 hour feed with 18 hour fast.. Yes, eat around 6 PM, bed 10-11 PM, then up at 6:30 AM. I do not eat before bedtime. My question I was asking is, do I need to break fast immediately after I get up, or is it OK to break the fast around noon. Dr. Boz seemed to indicate in this video that it was important to break the fast upon rising.
      I do occasionally have OMAD, but not on a regular or scheduled basis.

      @@stevetempleton9092 I've watched a lot of people talking about this, but I think it's still individual. Some lean to eating in am, less eating at night, and encourage at least four hrs after eating til bedtime. others say the science on meal times doesn't exist and do what's natural for you. Blood sugar naturally rises to wake you up in the AM so may be part of it. For me, I do omad, a chewing meal, but usually eat it over an hour, around 9pm, but have a keto coffee which does break my fast but that's all I have til 9pm. Some days I skip it. I do a 24 hr fast once a month. I lost 75 lbs last year with this routine, 5lbs from goal weight, never hungry. I honestly prefer thinking about food less! Lol I work until 7pm so I won't change unless some solid science appears!

    Vodka + mineral water or gin and tonic will only pause the keto production temporarily, it will not necessarily take you out of keto, alcohol is a strange macro nutrient. Drinking beer however is more or less the same as eating bread or candy.

    • @ketobygeorge7763
      @ketobygeorge7763 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really semantics, it's word definition. Insulin resistance varies from slightly to severe. Progressively worsening Insulin Resistance leads to Type 2 Diabetes. Most doctors just watch until you become a Type 2 diabetic and then attempt to control blood sugars (the symptom) instead of getting to the ROOT CAUSE which is too much (CARBS=sugars) in the diet. A fasting Blood Insulin test will tell you where you are but most doctors don't test for it because they don't have a Rx to recommend.
