    Hello, I got this code along with P0300 random multiple cylinders misfired. When it first started happening, I only got a misfire code and it was only on cylinder two. So I replaced the coil but then it continued to get an engine light and then on other cylinders and also the P0300. Today while I was driving on the freeway, the engine cut out a little bit almost like it wasn’t getting any fire at all and then it would start running again. When I got home I ran the OBD Code tester, I had several cylinders saying they missed fired and the P0300, but this time along with the P2646. I checked the oil all is good, but I didn’t expect anything there because I’m pretty religious about changing the oil. I did not check the oil pressure switch/sensor or the valve timing solenoid yet. I was watching your video and decided to send this and see if the engine misfire was also a typical issue with the P 2646. Great video. Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Lou.

      Multiple misfire codes, is something that would affect the whole engine, such as a weak fuel pump, clogged intake or exhaust, bad sensor, and more. Multiple misfire codes can be hard to troubleshoot since they can be caused by so many things.

    It's almost always water in the connectors. when you open the Element hood wet, water runs right down into the connectors.
    trust me. dry out and seal the connectors first. it almost always works.

    This past Friday I bought a 2005 Element with 148,000 miles with the 4 speed automatic for 4,000 of course with no warranty. I was told the cars they sell are driven for 15 days before selling them to make sure everything is ok. They replaced the rear brakes, new tires "6 years old on one of them with very small dry rot" new radiator, new front shocks and an oil change. I was told to use 10w-40 semi synthetic. Found out in the owners manual that it's supposed to be 5w-20 synthetic. It doesn't specify semi or full. I drove it home 5 miles, then 15 to work the next day leaving work about 500 feet down the road at about 2,500rpms or higher it started to shutter and the engine light came on. Found error codes P2646 and P2647 came up. I watched some video's and checked the oil level and it was down to the lower mark. This morning I added about a quart of oil to get it up to the full mark. Drove it to work and got 13 miles away and it started shuttering again, but worse and even lost total power for a few seconds "had to let off the throttle". I already bought a new EVTS assembly and Mobil 1 5w-20 high mileage full synthetic oil and a O.E.M. Honda oil filter. Tomorrow after work weather permitting, I'm changing it all. Today when I got home sitting in neutral the engine wouldn't rev past 2,500rpms and sounded like the revlimiter was kicking in. I'm not sure why the ECM does this because all the VVT system does is allows the intake valves to have more lift and duration which allows the engine to produce more hp and torque buy adding oil pressure to the intake rockers. I'm also going to check the electrical for corrosion and apply dielectric grease before connecting them back. There's no mechanical noise so I'm convinced there's no mechanical issues. We'll see what happens.

      @@MichaelMcsherry-jc9uw What's interesting is that my oil level was 1 quart low so I topped it off and about 60 miles later the engine light went off and no running issues as of today. I'm going on vacation next week and I'm replacing the VVT assembly I bought at Autozone for $90 plus the filter screen with rubber gasket for the opposite side of the engine from Advance Auto for $10 along with Mobil 1 5W-20 and an O.E.M. filter.

    My wifes Element just threw a 2646 code. I checked everything i knew to check.
    I took it for a test drive and drove just a bit on the hard side to move the oil around. It appears to have worked. I cleared the code and it hasn't pop back on.

    Thank you! This came on with my element and vsa light also came on an I had an engine shutter. I was right on 5000 on full synthetic oil. It was Saturday and I could not get in a garage. I went an oil shope.oil was low it has a slight leek and it does burn oil. They ran the code p2746. I had them change the oil. On the way back I recreated the problem at 2800rpms going up a hill. But otherwise she ran normal. Next day I had to get back home. 150 miles
    Taking it easy, engine light on keeping rpms low of high way 50 mph tops. Next day. No engine light runs normal tried to recreate issue 5 times... did I dodge a bullet here?

      I'd get the oil pressure sensor replaced as soon as you can, they're real finicky. Mine acted as yours did and then the issue stopped for a couple months. Thought it was fine till it left my stranded unable to go over 3k rpm. Be safe not sorry

    I'm at a loss and I'm so frustrated. I've replaced with oem honda parts the vtec solenoid ,oil pressure sensor, oil pressure switch , vtc actuator and screen, oil change and filter. Nothing works. I cant drive over 3k rpms. It's an 05 Honda element with 210k miles. My next step is to spray the plugs and see if that does anything because the wiring looks good.

    • @HVAC_Mechanic
      @HVAC_Mechanic  ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you tested the oil pump? While they usually don’t go bad with 210k miles it may have become weak.

    • @johnathoncastro
      @johnathoncastro ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HVAC_Mechanic I have not. I have to remove the subframe and oil pan for that. It's a hell of a job and about $1800. I'm hoping it's a loose connection or dirty plug. There's no noise and if the vehicle is in neutral I can Rev beyond 3k rpms. the moment I drive it doesn't go beyond 3k rpms.

    This one driving me nuts. Entire solenoid, switch and filters replaced. My code read can't seem to reset the code. Is this a permanent code you have to drive until it shuts off?

    • @HVAC_Mechanic
      @HVAC_Mechanic  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The light should shut off, but the code may still be there when a scan tool is used, and a drive cycle needed to fully clear it. Vehicles 2009 and newer need a Drive Cycle.
