Czerny was selected by Beethoven for the premiere of the latter's Piano Concerto No. 1 in 1806 and, at the age of 21, in February 1812, Czerny gave the Vienna premiere of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, "Emperor". Czerny wrote that his musical memory enabled him to play all the Beethoven works by heart without exception and, during the years 1804-1805, he used to play these works in this manner at Prince Lichnowsky's palace once or twice a week. Czerny maintained a relationship with Beethoven throughout his life, and also gave piano lessons to Beethoven's nephew Carl.

Wow. They will surely meet in heaven! Both geniuses in their own field and if they had been together I'm sure they would write some of the most emotional fast paced jumpy and royal pieces.

Liszt said, that i Czerny, Liszts teacher, would have become one of THE greatest, if he hadn´t committed som much to writing of study-music. He might have been right. This is outstanding!

Czerny is a neglected genius that needs to be heard more often.

Czerny's Op. 692 and Op. 756 études are some of his most musically interesting sets, akin to Chopin's studies or Liszt's transcendentals. I hope to see a full recording of them by one of the romantic revivalists like Lewenthal, Libetta, Maltempo, etc. in the near future.

Because his etudes were referred to as "indispensable to the piano student", found on page 176 top of the page in the 2 volume publication; Milton Cross' Encyclopedia Of The Great Composers And Their Music, I feel a correction should be made regarding this great talent. His name is spelled with a 'K', as in Karl. I want to thank you for your hard work in providing audible material of Karl Czerny. I have been studying for only 4 years and have no access to these incredible finger exercises. Please don't take offense to my mention of spelling Karl's name. He deserves that much and so much more. And I want you to know you've made my day. I have a wonderful piano teacher now but I can only be at the studio once a week and I constantly hunger for advancement. Carry on your good work!

marksmith2971. I am not offended because you tell us that there should be a K in Karl, and not a C. But there is something that is much more important than a single letter, and that is to inform the ignorant hat Karl Czerny was no so-called «double beat» musician. It is disrespectful of Wim Winters to falsify music history, and would drag the virtuoso pianist down to a mediocre stage where he find himself.
There are two different Wim Winters. When he plays music before the time of the metronome, it’s okay to listen to his playing. But as soon as he gets a metronome in his hands, things go completely wrong!

Czerny was a very hard worker. The ammount of etudes, compositions and editions he made is very very large. He yet gave classes of piano for students, and edited a lot of music of other composers. One of the first integral of Bach´s keyboard music (less organ music maybe ) published was by Czerny, in the beginning of 1800´s years.

Yes indeed but his music is now in revival and we are seeing’s number of premiere recordings. He is a most engaging composer. I was astounded to hear some of his Choral works which are superb and works for the organ.

Can't disagree, unreasonable as that may seem. Clearer lines (complex yet less virtuosic!) and an easier grasp for being swept into the shere musicality of it all.
