Full of fresh ideas is this noteworthy, fine composition of my adored Carl Czerny.
Sometimes it feels really good to be of Austrian descent. Thanks for reminding me !

Rather the complaint that this piece is "derivative" or "sterile and academic" as 9/10ths of the garbage produced since 1900, we can enjoy a few more Beethoven like moments. Czerny scores with a somewhat lighter hand than Beethoven with a few more borrows or steals from others of his contemporaries, chiefly Rossini. As I have said elsewhere, these belong with the symphonies of some Swedish composers; Berwald and Stenhammar. They deserve a much wider audience and this performance is really good too. Best

Czerny composed over a thousand works, there currently is actually no complete set of Czerny
many of his works haven't been recorded yet

Obvious influence from a certain other Symphony 2 in D major? Also, the Figaro overture in the last movement?

@@ShaunakDesaiPiano at 32:26 you can remember the Figaro overture because of the runs in the violins, but this passage vaguely reminds it

Today the level of musical education is dramatically low. In Czernys' time anyone with a decent knowledge of music theory could compose sth like this.

that doesn’t make it any less pleasant to listen to

You have a "decent knowledge of music" so please show us your symphonies.

As far as I can see, I didn't mention myself but the cultured people in Czeny's time. The musical vocabulary and structures were generally accepted and anyone who felt the urge could compose sth that the public would like. Totally different situation from nowadays. I think I could compose sth similar but what would be the point? @@pepehaydn7039
