The visual presentation is absolutely stunning, both, during gameplay and cutscenes. The game has a lot of heart and charm. The world is expansive and worth traversing and exploring. It's also lush and vibrant. Combat is a lot of fun and challenging, especially later on. Gameplay in general is an absolute joy. Characters are lovely and expressive. Animations are smooth and responsive. Kena Bridge of Spirits borrows elements from Pikmin, Uncharted and The Legend of Zelda and it does so very well. There may have been little in the way of marketing. However, the game has managed to exceed expectations and then some. At a price point of $40, this is easily a must buy. I'll just have to wait until November, which is when the physical copy will be available to purchase. Ember Lab have managed to create an experience that goes beyond being beautiful. Every pixel has been lovingly crafted. The game is filled to the brim with personality and an undeniable charm. This is a very impressive first attempt by Ember Lab and they deserve to be commended for their effort. Otherwise, thanks as always Karak for another detailed, unbiased and honest review. I’ve been playing Tales and Psychonauts on my Series X that my PS5 has been collecting dust for months. Never liked Ratchet and Returnal isn’t for me. Might try this one though.
Definitely not for me, but the attention to detail that I can see just from the footage presented here is amazing. Hopefully we can see more games take this more contained and detailed approach to game design.
Definitely with the sucess of this one the team can craft even better games than this one. This one is a stepping stone. They might do something a bit more complex later on, even if is not a Kena 2.
Yeah, I don't really get the platform loyalty w/ PC gaming. I don't like to support Tencent, but it's only 40% of 12%, which is damn near pennies ($1.92). In fact I like it that the Epic Games store only takes 12% from devs, as opposed to Steam's 30%. I don't do the collecting & stuff on the Steam platform tho, despite having 100's of games on there. We'll see how I feel come Jan when I get my SteamDeck tho, lol.
@@JeighNeither I will happily pick up games on epic when they offer the features steam has. Right now, it's a liability. Also waiting to buy a game is not a problem for me. But the basic quality of life feature epic lacks is a massive hindrance.
Fun note, the person that composed the music for this game, aka Theophany Remix, was a TH-camr (or posted some of his musical work on TH-cam). did a bunch of Zelda: Majoras Mask fan compositions (including the music for that Big Majoras Mask CGI project, Terrible Fate).
This game seriously is great. The vids look like pixar, bit the game has tons of micro detail and the lighting is stunning. Finished the first area story last night, I won't lie, I cried. Went in expecting an easy kids game, it lulled me in and then kicked my butt. As a frequent souls borne player, I have already died a bunch. The puzzles are well done, and the voice acting is great. This game is a diamond in the rough, don't pass it by.
I got to admit some boss fight is tough and require me putting my souls borne attitude into the fight. If the players really struggle, they can pop it to easy mode which is super easy …….
This game is also available for the PS4, I don't know why a few channels didn't mention that. I get that it won't run as good as the PS5 obviously, but it still looks amazing and plays great. So if anyone really wants to play it right now but you don't have a ps5, you can still play it! When you buy it you get both the PS4 and PS5 versions so you'll be able to play it later the way it was suppose to be played too 😊
Maybe it’s just my ignorance, but I was really surprised this game didn’t get more attention and anticipation after the first PS5 showcase. It was/is a beautiful looking game and I think a lot of people were especially excited for this since Ember Lab made that amazing Majora’s Mask short film. I know I didn’t expect their next project project to be an all out game that’s as beautiful to look at in real-time as their film was. I’m keeping this studio on my radar from now on. They know how to make beautiful and engaging content, and honestly they could’ve justified at least $60 for this game, but at $40, WOW! This is definitely a must buy. Thank you for the review and giving this game the attention it deserves!
It could be good even if he said it was bad. It could be bad if he says it's good. It's all up to YOUR interpretation. The amount of people that come off as lack of free thinkers is scary.
@@nickschaeffler7878 Such a horrid take. You can see in the footage if you like something. You don't need to hear what people are saying. Sounds like you're indicating that you've never liked a mediocre or poorly reviewed film or game which is crazy to me. You're essentially saying "I'm not going to spend money if others don't like it! Why does MY opinion matter?" That's crazy
Third game is just so special. It fairies something for me I have never gotten from another game. Feels a bit studio ghibli with the Rot crossed with Zelda. Just beautiful. I kind of wish the combat was a little deeper but understand why they kept it simple. I hope this team makes many many more games this beautiful. I will buy every single one.
I was interested in this when it was announced. Glad to see it turned out great. The graphics look amazing, story sounds great, and the gameplay looks like some good old fashioned hack and slash fun.
WOW, I was complaining under the comments section of IGN about rating methods, ACG you are my guy from Today onwards, amazing parameters based rating with time stamps
Whenever I see clips of Kena, I remember Tomba. Looking forward to get the physical copy of this game! By the way, how are the haptic feedback and the adaptive trigger on this game?
For the haptics so far, I've only noticed it when swimming and it's real subtle. For the adaptives, as you could probably guess, I felt it with the bow. Wasn't too strong (thankfully) I've had 1 controller get a loose r2 button months ago. Don't want it to happen again. For the heavy melee attacks, I for the life of me can't remember if it uses adaptive triggers or not and I literally just played a few hours ago lol
@@NYC_Goody that's good to hear. I honestly thought it would be like Ratchet and Clank level in terms of those features since they also showcase this game in the controller features. Still looks like a great game! Can't wait for November for the release of the physical copies.
@@illumillukilluallukalluto8861 Yeah and who knows, I don't have all the abilities yet. So maybe there will be more. Still had a pretty good time with the couple hours I played last night. If the whole experience is good, I'll probably double dip to get the physical. And can confirm heavy attacks do have tension.
I’m going to have to try this one on PC, it looks amazing and fun with exploration. I’ve been chipping away at Nioh 2 and this game looks like a good cool down game for Nioh!
It's also on PS4, and is a free upgrade to PS5. Kena, here I come! Thanks ACG! Also, I hope you keep doing those tidbit details I saw in the lower left corner of the video. Simple but great way to convey other info that doesn't get in the way or extend the video!
@@kschmeed Fine so far, but it's clear it was meant for PS5. The shadows, fur, and hair on Kena are often pixelated (almost like a water-color but not in a good way). I also noticed a glitch where you obtain a "mask" for the first time, that when you wear it sometimes, there's a conflict with controlling Kena that ends up swapping what should be first-person camera controlling only to controlling Kena while the mask is on, which gets you stuck in first-person and unable to remove the mask.
I think they didnt know how many would preorder it digital but its only a month and a bit. Could be worse. Bugsnax still hasnt released physical almost a year later
Makes me happy I dont ever buy physical releases. All that plastic and waste for a download key? Id rather pay more, and i do, but it shiuld be cheaper...
@@titntin5178 it’s usually cheaper to buy a physical copy and quicker to install (as it contains actual game data not a “download key”) and it’s really such a small amount of plastic, far smaller than the console your using to play it on which funnily enough you didn’t have an environmental problem with purchasing!!!! You also get the option to trade it in or sell it which digital will never ever allow. Digital media is and always will be the biggest con ever devised specifically targeting consumers with more money than sense and there is no excuse for the prices almost always being more expensive.
@@Carfilliot Completely agree. When you buy digital, you don't truly own it. You're leasing it with the gamble that you might not be able to play it later.
@@djshovelpants - as long as it’s saved in your SSD you’ll be able to play it as long as you want. However, a PS6 or PS7 will likely not have a physical drive, so you won’t be able to play it without connecting your old console.

If cutscenes are not locked to 30 and is actually allowed to go 60, it's not gonna look like a cutscene or cinematic storytelling. It will look like a computer game. I hope people stop asking cinematics to be 60fps coz it's just doesn't make sense.

I’ve been playing Tales and Psychonauts on my Series X that my PS5 has been collecting dust for months. Never liked Ratchet and Returnal isn’t for me. Might try this one though.
@@Jack-ji8kr Tsushima dlc? FF7 yuffie? VF5 coming back! What did ratchet ever do to you? 😂
Pre-ordered. Started playing this morning before work and can't wait to play more when I get home. Great video as always
Always love your reviews. You are more professional and thoughtful than all the major game journos.
Glad you like them!
Looks like a fun whimsical experience I'll certainly pickup when it releases on Steam or GOG.
Hi Indonesian here, I think music in Kena heavily inspired by Balinesse and Javanese music and instrument
Looks amazing , just wish it would come to steam sooner.
Too bad epic snatched it up smh
It’s coming to steam?
Fun note, the person that composed the music for this game, aka Theophany Remix, was a TH-camr (or posted some of his musical work on TH-cam). did a bunch of Zelda: Majoras Mask fan compositions (including the music for that Big Majoras Mask CGI project, Terrible Fate).
"PC and PS5"? i never thought i'd see this day :)
It's also on the PS4. And it looks beautiful ❤️
I think the game is a bit of a sleeper. It drew some attention for sure, but I think it will blow up.
The guys who made this made that majoras mask animation. I wonder how much that inspired this.
I'm really glad this is good! Been looking forward to it for months!
It could be good even if he said it was bad. It could be bad if he says it's good. It's all up to YOUR interpretation. The amount of people that come off as lack of free thinkers is scary.
@@NYC_Goody ...its a video game. I'm not spending $40 if the prevailing opinion is negative.
@@NYC_Goody bruh...who even are you? stop policing other peoples' comments.
@@nickschaeffler7878 you're openly admitting that you can't get past the herd mentality.
When you said that a review was coming, you really meant right now. I was looking forward to this.
lol
I’m going to have to try this one on PC, it looks amazing and fun with exploration. I’ve been chipping away at Nioh 2 and this game looks like a good cool down game for Nioh!
It's also on PS4, and is a free upgrade to PS5.
Kena, here I come! Thanks ACG!
Also, I hope you keep doing those tidbit details I saw in the lower left corner of the video. Simple but great way to convey other info that doesn't get in the way or extend the video!
How’s it running on ps4?
@@kschmeed Fine so far, but it's clear it was meant for PS5. The shadows, fur, and hair on Kena are often pixelated (almost like a water-color but not in a good way).
I also noticed a glitch where you obtain a "mask" for the first time, that when you wear it sometimes, there's a conflict with controlling Kena that ends up swapping what should be first-person camera controlling only to controlling Kena while the mask is on, which gets you stuck in first-person and unable to remove the mask.
@@kschmeed Never mind, a patch today just addressed these issues.
:-D
PHEW; I’m so glad this game is reviewing well, because it was my most anticipated game this year
This game is a treat to play at 4k 120FPS on an OLED TV. Its amazing!!!!!
Lol the timing on this review. Makes me sad that the physical release isn’t until November. Sony is bringing the heat.
Wonderful visuals with good soundtrack always amplifies the immersion. Am glad the whole package turned out well. Would surely try this out.
It looks nice. Im just curious how puzzle heavy it is because theres nothing I hate more in games that causes me to lose my gamer chub faster than puzzles lol
Same here
I am so glad you mentioned overlord as a comparison at the end. I loved having my ugly minions going around destroying everything. Gonna love this game
Reminds me of Kameo for Xbox 360
I was surprised you didn't have any Tomb Raider references in the review. The exploration reminds me a lot of the newer TR games. 👍
This feels like a pixar movie made into a game, i love it.
Will be picking up next month when the disc version releases
This game looks absolutely beautiful
It is! I'm having so much fun so far!
Karak sounds pretty enthused on this review which in turn, has me pretty hype to play this. Good stuff my guy.
I love these video reviews, especially on games I would highly consider getting!
Will you review Inserguncey Sandstorm on Consoles?
I don't normally do pre-orders, but after watching your review on this game, it was justified. Can't wait to play it.
Thanks for the time stamps!! That is awesome, great review. I’m definitely gonna pick this one up now. Have a great week Karak!
definitely not a game for me, but i was curious to see how it would turn out. glad to hear it delivers for what it was going for. it certainly has an audience too
If cutscenes are not locked to 30 and is actually allowed to go 60, it's not gonna look like a cutscene or cinematic storytelling. It will look like a computer game. I hope people stop asking cinematics to be 60fps coz it's just doesn't make sense.
I freaking love that this is 40 bucks. Ridiculous quality and they're selling it for less than the next same ol COD.
Really glad you liked this Jeremy. I was concerned this was going to be lousy with the embargo lifting day of release, always fishy when that happens. Did you have a chance to play on ps4 pro wondering how it runs there since I can't and don't plan on getting a ps5.
I'm glad this game turned out so good. I don't know why Sony had a review embargo until midnight of release day. That's usually a sign they're hiding how mediocre it is.
You had me at, "jellybean gremlins" I want this game, I'm in.
