The sledgehammer was my first rc truck , way back in the day , I loved that truck ,wish I still had it , we did at least a million miles , thanks for the memories 😎👍
This is the 2nd generation with the black. I have 2 of the first Gen with gold where the black is. 3rd Gen is all black. I also have 2 hawks from 89 as well. Pretty cool. Love these better then my newer stuff.
Wishing that traxx would bring this one back had one in the early years thanks for sharing if you’re selling any classic ones please let me know thanks for sharing just add upgraded parts and power batteries with charger it’s a win win situation 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
My cousins sister use to work at tower hobbies in champagne Illinois back in the day and sent me n my cousin a sledgehammer but loaded with goodies.trinity motor and some fancy esc also better batt pack.I sure remember it ripping compared to any rc that was available at the time..
Man this RC truck is bringing up some memories for me. I had one in the early 90’s my dad got it for me. We had a Nitro Hawk but it was too fussy for me back then. So he decided to tinker with the Nitro Hawk and I was able to play with the Sledgehammer. What I remember and being absolutely excited about was the 15 minute charger. We had 3 batteries so no more waiting 4hr to change and no stop time. My Sledgehammer was all white it came in a box with the wheels off.
My first new hobby grade rc was a first gen Sledgehammer rtr. It's cool to see this original example running on the batteries that I used to use in mine! Thanks!
I just inherited one of these guys from my Dad, it has definitely seen better days! Did you have to replace any parts on this one and if you did where did you find them? The plastic on mine is pretty brittle and wouldn't mind replacing a few of the parts.

@@D.J_RC Oh yeah I did not know that. I remember always looking at the Sledge Hammer in the Sears and Jc Penny Xmas catalogs lol. I got my first Tamiya Falcon from one of those. Probably 1990 or so lol
All depends on your definition of cheap. For something built in 1989 it’s well built not cheap in that way, if you mean cost they can sell for anywhere between $100 and $300 depending on condition.

Oh..it had a sweet tekin esc and a joe Johnson signature series monster power motor.we had gear issues cause the torque..lol.

I have an original 8.5”x11” advertisement card for the sledgehammer. One day I’ll have one.
If it has a electronic speed controller its a later model. The original came with mechanical
They came as a build kit also where you could supply your own electronics.
