I use cinebrass for my Divisimate orchestra. I found infinite brass to be a bit synth sounding. I had to do the old transpose/detune trick to get individual solo brass instruments, but so far it seems to work ok.
Vince your videos are always are always very informative, what you do in real time is amazing. I have divisimate and I still have issues getting the chords to perform correctly, i.e. dropouts, missing notes etc. I do love the quartal preset in Divisimate. I just signed up to your Substack. Best!
Thanks for the sub! I definitely have issues with it as well from time to time. Here's a link to the extended version in case you're interested vincewebb.substack.com/p/exclusive-video-for-newsletter-subscribers
@@vincecomposer I see, good to know. ha! I do have an older Mac also. Your computer must be a beast to have all those CSS instruments loaded at once. Great, thanks for sharing the link, very much appreciated. Best!
Thanks man! In this case I didn't touch the MIDI data. In general I'm only really using Divisimate for improv right now rather than writing. If I was using for writing yes I'd probably re perform the CC's especially for string parts.
Very Nice ! it needs a lot of knowledge to do that ! by the way how do you manage articulations with Divisimate when it's CSS and not a swam instrument ?
In Logic I just have a set of legatos, a set of measured trems and a set of 'sketching' patches (sustains layered with stacattissimo) and I record-arm them depending on the material i want to play. The sketching ones are the most flexible. However Divisimate can send keyswitches, if you prefer to work that way.
@@vincecomposer Nice to know that you use sketching patches in that case as well i think it’s a very efficient workflow I want to try that as well thks Vince ! Next step should be to really write music with that tool or at least using it as an arranger for octaves and parallel harmonisations etc a video on that workflow could me amazing like how to compose with divisimate
Hey - just curious. Why aren't you using SWAM for brass as well? And what do you think of the new SWAM string sections? Would you still prefer cinematic studio? And do you think acoustic samples are better than SWAM? For all or just some instruments?
I prefer the tone of Infinite brass for this context even though SWAM brass are slightly easier to control. I did a review of SWAM string sections here th-cam.com/video/QmKpt9wVFy0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=wmm1a-yjMa0AFrd3 Yes in general I prefer the approach of Acoustic Samples over SWAM - they tend to have more imperfections to the sound.
Yeah! So Infinite Brass is a combo of velocity and CC for attack/dynamics by default. I actually used a modifier in Logic as a hacky way to make it less responsive to velocity especially at the lower CC 11 values - to avoid short staccato notes popping through when playing quiet sustained material. Would love to see your big band setup!
Awesome! Keep up the great work!
Yaaasss! this is what I have been waiting for
haha glad you enjoyed! Playing the orchestra is the dreeeeam
Always a pleasure watching you improvise with Divisimate
Ah thanks so much Mark!
Beautiful improv!
Nice!!!
this thing looks like great fun!
Yep! Extremely good fun

Nice, yeah I still learning how to get the best results from it. I love the sound of cinebrass!

tutto bellissimo. bezos shoulda hired you for RoP
Great mix and video! Divisimate _so_ helpful, it sometimes feels like cheating. Do you go over each track to individualize CC after?

Some nifty noodling, Vince. You seem to have nailed the Divisimate technique.
cheers! easy when you can edit out the naff bits 😅

Velocity for brass dynamics seems neat. My orch template is all CCs, which hasn't worked as well for big band.

Why is your video mirrored? That was really confusing for a second
Sorrrry!
